B. PROCEDURES:
A. Reviewing of the Previous Lesson or Presenting the New Lesson
Last week, you learned to read and answer wh- questions on the short stories with
short vowel sounds. You also learned about some prepositions. For this week, you
will encounter different challenging activities in English for you to become a good
writer and expert in grammar. Now, look at the pictures below.

 Do you know other words that you can use to replace these nouns?
 What do you call the words that you can use to replace these words?
Take note! Pronouns are the words that used in place of a noun.
B. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson
For this week, you will learn more about pronouns, and you are expected to
do the following:
 answer wh-questions about the story;
 identify the correct pronoun for the given picture, word and sentence;
 use personal pronouns I, you, he, she, it we and they in to complete the
sentence; and
 use demonstrative pronouns this, that, these and those properly.
C. Presenting Examples/Instances of the Lesson
This time, look at the pictures again and read the story with your mom.

I want you to meet my family.

This is my father. He is a fireman.

This is my mother. She is a sales lady in a mall.

These are my grandparents. They take care of me when my parents go to work.

My father, mother, grandparents and I live in a small house. It is where we


share love, respect and happiness every day.

 Pronouns are words that take the place of a noun.
 The pronoun he, she and it take the place of singular noun or noun refers to

E. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #2


Yesterday, you learned about the4 pronouns he, she and it. For today, you
will learn another set of pronouns. Look at the sentences below. These
sentences were taken from the story above.
My name is Carla.
I am the only child of my mom and dad.

 The word my is a pronoun referring to ownership. It is used when someone is


talking about what he/she has.
 From the story above, Carla is the one talking about her family. That is why
she used My.
 Carla used the pronoun I on the second sentence instead of repeating her
name.
 The word I is a pronoun referring to yourself or to the person speaking. You
can use I instead of your name.
 Other examples:
This is my brother.
I love him so much.
My best friend is honest.
I am very lucky to have her.

 The word are my grandparents.
grandparents is a noun. It also refers to plural noun.
They take care of me when my parents go to work.
 Plural noun refers to two or more.
 The word They is a word used to replace the word grandparents.
 From the story, Carla used they because she talked about two persons.
 The pronoun they is used to replace the name of two or more
persons, animals or things that you are talking about.
 Other examples:
Tom and Pam play with their dogs.
They love animals.
Our neighbors gave us pancit.
They are very kind.

We share love, respect and happiness every day.

 The underlined words in the first sentence are the following:

 There are four persons including Carla. She used I, because Carla is the one
talking and referring to herself.

 The underlined words in the sentence are referring to plural nouns.
 They are plural nouns because they are many.
 The word we is used to replace father, mother, grandparents and I, because
the person talking in the sentence is included.
 The pronoun we, is used when talking to two or more persons including the
person speaking.
 Other examples:
Rene, Ben and I are friends.
We are always happy.
My mom, dad and I pray for COVID-19 patients.
We also pray for the whole world.
How about you, do you also have a happy family?

 In this sentence, the pronoun You is used.


 The pronoun You is used when referring to the person spoken to.
 Examples:
Tom, please get me a glass of water.
You get it from the fridge.
I like you Shane.
“You are kind.”

F. Developing Mastery
You already know the use of pronouns he, she, it, we, they, I and you. For today,
you will learn another lesson about demonstrative pronouns.
This, that, these and those are demonstrative pronouns.
Demonstrative pronouns are words used to show or point a number of objects
that may be far or near.
The word near means within or at a short distance or in a very close manner
and the word far means there is a great or long distance between the object and
the person pointing at it.

Look at the pictures below then, study them carefully.

1. This is a book.
 The first picture shows a boy holding a book.
The boy holds one book and it is near to him.
The word “is” is used for one person, one place, one animal and
one thing.
 He used this is because he is pointing to one object near to him.
 The word this is a pronoun used when pointing to one person, one place, one
animal and one thing near the person speaking.

That is a book.
 The second picture shows a girl pointing to one book.
The book is only one and it is far from her.

The girl in the picture used that is because she is pointing to one book far from
her.
 The word that is used when pointing to one person, one place, one animal and
one thing far from the person speaking.

 The third picture shows a girl pointing or showing some books.


The girl has two books and they are near her.
Are is used in the sentence because it refers to two or more nouns.
The girl used These because the two books are near her.
 The word these is a pronoun used when pointing to two or more persons,
places, animals and things which are near the person speaking.

Those are books.
 The fourth picture shows a boy pointing to many books.
This time the books are far from him.
The boy in the fourth picture used Those because he is pointing to many objects
far from him.
 The word those is a pronoun used when pointing to two or more persons,
places, animals and things far from the person speaking.

For the past three days, you learned about pronouns. This time it’s your
turn to give example. Do the activity given below.

Activity 7: Give at least 5 pronouns that you can use every day. Draw
and write a simple sentence about it. See the examples below.

Example:

She is pretty.

(Those) 2. Look! Those are stars.

H. Making Generalizations and Abstractions about the Lesson

Remember!
Pronouns are words in place of a noun.

He is used in place of a name of one boy.


She is used in place of a name of one girl.
It is used in place of a name of one place, animal or thing.

They is used in place of a name of two or more persons, things or animals.


“We” is used in place of a name of two or more persons including the
person speaking.

This, that, these and those are called demonstrative pronouns.
