INDUSTRIAL INTERNET OF THINGS

CASE STUDY:
Problem Statement: IOT Based Blood Pressure Monitoring System.
Introduction:
The National Audit Department mentioned in its most recent report that emergency
and trauma departments (ETD) at certain Malaysian hospitals were overcrowded,
understaffed, underfunded and under equipped. The number of patients keep increasing and
the Ministry of Health (MOH) must shoulder the heavy liability of providing health to the
best of its capacity to all Malaysians. Thus, there is a need to simplify the monitoring process
inside the hospital in Malaysia. It is easier to have online monitoring system to show every
condition in engineering. One method is to use Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor the
patient’s health. Nowadays there are a lot of applications being designed and implemented to
increase the efficiency of hospital’s management.
IoT blood pressure monitor is designed and developed to help the hospital’s staffs
monitoring the blood pressure reading of a patient remotely. This will reduce the
dependability of the patients towards the hospital’s staffs as well as enhancing how doctors
make their decision based on patient condition at real time. IoT blood pressure monitor is also
valuable for elderly or disability patients who might have difficulty to go to the hospital to
check on their condition. The system is able to expand the medical services setting from
patient’s home to the doctor’s facility.
Domain Used: Iot and Big Data.
Tools used:
Hardware-- MPX5050 Sensor, LCD, NodeMCU.
Software--Google Firebase, Developer C++.
Characteristics:
 It is an important force because oxygen and nutrients would not be pushed
around the circulatory system to nourish tissues and organs without blood
pressure.

 Blood pressure is also vital because it delivers white blood cells and
antibodies for immunity and hormones such as insulin.

Challenges:
Perhaps the most common mistake in blood pressure measurement is allowing
patients to sit or lie with their arms hanging by their side, since when the upper arm is
below the level of the right atrium, the readings will be too high. If the arm is unsupported
and held up by the patient, pressure will be even higher. Blood pressure measurement is one
of the most common medical tests performed across both physician’s offices and hospitals
worldwide. Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of this measurement is critical for the proper
diagnosis and treatment of millions of patients. Yet, measuring blood pressure is a procedure
that is also highly prone to error.

Solution:
Arterial BP is traditionally measured in the brachial artery with the cuff-based
sphygmomanometer by detecting sounds that are generated (auscultatory method) or by
recording vascular pulsations (oscillometric method) after decompression of a
compressed artery. Box 33.1 lists guidelines for traditional BP measurement.
Conclusion:
For, future development we can add an introduction module to the device using NFC
so that the Blood Pressure Monitoring device with MPX5050DP sensor can be used by many
users, this will help periodic health checks for patients.
