APPLICATION

PREFLIGHT INSPECTION is conducted prior to each

flight, unless a Turnaround inspection applies. Preflight
procedures will be established and monitored to ensure
that communication, navigation, and identification
equipment required for flight are operative prior to takeoff.

TURNAROUND INSPECTION is conducted between

flights to ensure the integrity of the aircraft for flight, verify
proper servicing, and to detect degradation that may have
occurred during the previous flight. This inspection may be
considered valid for a period of 24 hours commencing
from the date and time the inspection is completed,
provided that no flight and no maintenance other than
servicing occurs during this period. The accomplishment
of the daily inspection does not satisfy the turnaround
inspection requirements.

TURNAROUND INSPECTIONS are not required for

aircraft participation in hot seating evolutions. Only those
items pertaining to the refueling shall be required when
the aircraft is to be immediately re−launched. All
applicable NATOPS checklists shall be complied with
during such ground periods. When servicing or minor
maintenance is performed during such ground periods,
only those portions of turnaround inspections applicable to
that servicing or maintenance need to be performed, as
directed by Maintenance Control. Inspection/servicing
intervals shall not be exceeded during successive
evolutions.

POSTFLIGHT INSPECTION is conducted upon

conclusion of each flight, unless a Turnaround inspection
applies.

NOTE: Review discrepancies from last 10 flights.

PREFLIGHT CHECKLIST
EXTERIOR

NOTE: During walkaround, the exterior of the aircraft

must be inspected for damage, loose or missing
fasteners and security of access panels, security
of or damage to external antennas, fluid leakage
and security of or damage to electrical wiring.

1. Fuel Sampling:

NOTE: S Take fuel samples prior to tank boost pump

operation, engine operation or fueling
aircraft.

S Fuel samples are obtained from fuel tank

sump drains (3 in each wing) and from the
5A tank through access (F9) using the fuel
drain extension tool.

S Samples are from tank low points so initial

water is normal. If required, drain sufficient
fuel to remove any residual water or
foreign matter/particulates.
a. Take fuel sample using a clean, clear glass or
polyethylene container approximately one quart
size. Collect approximately one pint of fuel.

b. Evaluate sample. If no visual contamination is

present, discard sample per local instructions.

2
BRA-EDIT 01-75PAA-6(I)-1

c. If sample is contaminated, refer to
NAVAIR 01-1A-35 for detailed fuel sample
analysis procedures.
2. APU or External Power Preoperational Check. The
following items properly positioned or installed as
applicable:
a. Entrance Ladder and Safety Lines/Rails.
b. Landing Gear Safety Pins (3).

13
BRA-EDIT 01-75PAA-6(I)-1
NAVAIR 01-75PAA-6(I)-1

WARNING: Aircraft incorporating AFC−517 (ESF) build

up and retain Electrostatic Charges during
fueling/defueling operations. Following
fueling/defueling of aircraft with AFC−517
installed, allow at least 15 minutes to
dissipate Electrostatic Charges prior to
using the dipstick or hydrostatic fuel gauge.
The dipstick or hydrostatic fuel gauge shall
not be used when the aircraft is exposed to
temperatures below −34 degrees C. On
aircraft incorporating AFC−517; Explosive
Suppressant Foam (ESF) overwing gravity
fueling operations shall not be performed
when outside air temperature is below −6
degrees C.

NOTE: S Dipstick measurement of fuel quantity in

tanks No. 1 through No. 4 and sight gauge
measurement of tank No. 5 are valid only
when aircraft is 1 degree nose down and
wings level (0 degree roll). Refer to
NAVAIR 01-75PAC-2-13.1.2 or
NAVAIR 01-75PAA-2-30 for detailed
procedures. On aircraft incorporating
AFC−578, dipstick measurement of fuel
quantity is optional and is not required
unless a degraded condition or failure is
displayed via the DFQS BIT on the
indicator.

S On aircraft incorporating AFC−578, the

DFQS has been optimized for use with
JP−5 fuel. Refer to NAVAIR
01−75PAC−2−13.1.2 for the effect of using
other than JP−5. However, the difference
will never exceed −.75% (less fuel will be
indicated than is actually in the fuel tank).

14
BRA-EDIT 01-75PAA-6(I)-1
NAVAIR 01-75PAA-6(I)-1
S On aircraft incorporating AFC−578 gauge
error tolerance may be calculated by the
following method: For tanks No. 1 through
No. 4 multiply gauge reading by .02 then
add 85 pounds to the result. For tank #5
multiply gauge reading by .02 then add
135 to the result.

S On aircraft not incorporating AFC−578

gauge error tolerance may be calculated
by the following method: For tanks No. 1
through No. 4, multiply gauge indication by
0.04, then add 240 pounds to the result.
For tank No. 5, multiply gauge indication
by 0.04, then add 380 pounds to the result.

S If unable to dip tank due to fuel level, the

hydrostatic gauge shall be used to
determine fuel quantity. Limit 1,200 pounds
when the aircraft is 1 degree nose down
and wings level. Refer to
NAVAIR 01-75PAC-2-13.1.2 or
NAVAIR 01-75PAA-2-30 for detailed
procedures.
S Difference between the Totalizer and the
summed total of the five (5) Flight Station
gauges should not exceed 500 pounds.
On aircraft incorporating AFC−578, there
should be no difference between the
Totalizer and the five (5) summed Flight
Station gauges.
S Tank No. 5 sight gauge is calibrated for
JP-4 fuel. To read sight gauge levels other
than JP-4; multiply the reading times (x)
1.046 for JP-5, or 1.031 for JP-8 and Jet
A-1 fuels.

NOTE: Leakage of the Fuel Crossfeed Valve may result
in a pressure build-up on the Fuel Management

pressure build up is indicative of a worn molded
seal and must be replaced as soon as practical
but not later than the next ISIS inspection. A
rapid pressure rise may indicate a serious leak
and shall be corrected. Significant overnight
transfer of fuel in a static system may be
indicative of faulty crossfeed housing seals or
improperly aligned crossfeed housing and
requires investigation.
