Read the following words aloud.

loudly carefully happily

angrily sadly quietly

Now in pairs, enact an action for each word.

You have just enacted how an action is carried out. The words given above tell us
more about each verb. Words that tell us more about the verb are called Adverbs.
Adverbs tell us more about a verb. They answer the questions, how? where?
when? or how often?
Ÿ Adverb of manner tells us how an action takes place.
These adverbs often end in ly but not always.

Example:
My mother sings sweetly.
The children laughed happily.

Ÿ Adverb of place tells us where an action takes place.

Example:
We played outside.
My friend is sitting there.

Ÿ Adverb of time tells us when an action takes place.

Example:
My father will return soon.
I go to school in the morning.

Ÿ Adverb of frequency tells how often an action takes place.

Example:
I go to the park every Sunday.
We have assembly every morning.

Given below are some common adverbs. Read them aloud in class. Your teacher
may ask you to share your sentences using the words.
