What I Need to Know
Nowadays, we see computers everywhere. It comes in different types, sizes, shapes, and
prices. It becomes part of our daily lives. We use it for different reasons like making our
project, assignment, take down notes, or even for communication and seeing family and
friends in the virtual world. In this lesson you will learn how to manage your files and
folders, apply basic troubleshooting techniques, and how to buy a computer with the
criteria as a guide.

Manage - be in charge.
Files - is a collection of data or information that has a name, called filename.
Folder - is a storage space of files that are grouped together to organize the computer.
Sort - the arrangement of data in a prescribed sequence.
What’s New
What is It
The difference between the two is that files store data or information, while folders
store files and other folders.
File:
● In a Graphical User Interface (GUI) in Microsoft Windows, files display as an
icon that stores data, information, settings, or commands used with a certain
computer program.
● Files have extension names like .docx for Word document, .xlsx for Excel, .pptx
for PowerPoint, .jpeg for picture, and a lot more.
Folder:
● A folder can also contain other folders.
● Folders are also called directories.
Folder is a great location to save or store your files. The benefits you will experience is,
it will make your computer organize, and another is that your files will be easy and
convenient to access because you can categorize your files according to folder’s name.

For example: you have a folder in ICF 1 for all your activities of the subject.
To Create a Folder:
In the Desktop:
1. Right-click the mouse;
2. In the menu, point to New;
3. In the sub-menu, click Folder;
4. Type the name of the folder; and
5. Enter.
In any libraries in the File Explorer:
Option 1:
1. Right-click the mouse inside File Explorer;
2. In the menu, point to New;
3. In the sub-menu, click Folder;
4. Type the name of the folder; and
5. Enter
Option 2:
1. In the Home tab;
2.. Click the New Folder button;
3.. Type the name of the folder; and
4. Enter.
The View Tab makes it easy to change the way files are displayed within a folder.
For example, you may prefer to see your files as a list when viewing documents and
as large icons when viewing pictures.

Different Content View Options:
⮚ To change how your files or folder look bigger or smaller in the File
Explore; just click the View Tab, in the Layout Group, click the options
that you like.
You can sort your folders and files according to what you like.
Sort Options:
● Name
● Date Modified
● Type
● Size
● Date Created
● Authors
● Tag
● Title
● Ascending
● Descending
⮚ To sort your folders or files, click View Tab in the File Explorer, click the
Sort by button, and then choose your preference from the drop-down
menu.
Libraries are collections of content that can be easily accessed through File Explorer.
You can save or store any of your folders or files within a library.
Four basic libraries in Windows:
1. Documents
The best location to save your documents.
2. Pictures
The best location to save your photos or images.
3. Music
The best location to save your music.
4. Videos
The best location to save your movies and music.

Other Libraries:
5. Desktop
Is also a good location to save your files, especially when you want to access it directly
when you open your computer.
6. Downloads
Where the download files are automatically saved.
7. Data (D:)
A second partition of the Drive C or a separate area of a hard drive created specially to
save files so that even when the computer is damaged you can still recover your files
in the hard drive.
Libraries do not actually store or save your files and folder; it simply helps keep it
organized. The files are stored or saved permanently in the hard disk for future use.
