UNIT TWO
HALLOWEEN IS A HOLIDAY FOR CHILDREN
(31st October)
The festival coincides with the popular celebration of Halloween, a time for
witches and ghosts, at the end of October. Children all over the country
make scary Jack-o’-lanterns out of pumpkins by emptying them, carving
faces in them, and putting candles inside. The insides of the pumpkins can
then be used to bake delicious pies.

Cultural Note:
Hallowe’en or Halloween; it is originated from a celebration called All
Hallow’s Eve, which already existed in England hundred years ago; that
is, in Gaul and ancient Britain times. At that time, priests believed that
witches, demons and spirits of dead men roamed in this world on 31 st
October night. To get rid of them, they made fire, and wore various and
scary customs or masks so that the real ones thought they belonged to
their groups.
