Cultural Note:
 The Grand Ole Opry; it is a famous theater for country music live
concerts in Nashville. This building is also used as recording studio and
sure is the biggest in the world. Ole means old and Opry means opera,
but it really does not relate to any opera program at all.
 Country Music; it is a mixed of traditional music from England, gospel
from Southern part and hillbilly music (sung by people who lived in the
mountain and hill areas in the southern part), bluegrass music (it was
taken from the musician who played it for the first time and is
originated from the Kentucky, Bluegrass State) and western songs
(usually sung by cowboys, showing the beauty of nature). The themes of
this kind of music usually are about loves, loosing the loved one, or
poverty. The songs themselves are simple and straight forward.

 Do You Know?
1. Shaking Hands
Things we have to pay attention in shaking hands:
 Make eye contact
 Smile
 The handshake is firm and lasts only a few seconds.
Americans feel that a limp (=the opposite of firm) handshake shows lack of
confidence.
2. Eye Contact
Americans usually look directly into the eyes of people they are talking with. If
someone does not make or keep eye contact, Americans might think:
That person is not telling the truth
That person may not be listening, or
That person is impolite.

3. Meeting Others Informally

Americans generally find it easy to speak to strangers. They often speak directly to
strangers in a group, even before being introduced. After an introduction, the newly
introduced people usually make conversation right away. They immediately ask each
other questions. Asking questions shows interest and friendliness.
