II.1.4 Site Preparation

Existing Services

The Construction team would conduct investigation and acquire information regarding
site services that might have been placed/embedded bel ow ground. Services wherever
found shall be rerouted and protected to a safe place that will not affect site activities.

1
Setting out
LUSTER PRINTS Engineer would conduct site survey to mark/stake-out the lines
and levels of the objective excavation for the latrine as per indicated in the approved
drawing.

II.1.5 Work Methodology

Excavation
 The area to be excavated shall be properly mark and clear before starting the
works.
 The depth of excavation s h a l l be periodically c h e c k e d t o avoid over
excavation.
 All excavated material shall be kept minimum of 1.0 meter from the edge of
excavation or shall be stock piled to the area designated by the Project Engineer.
 For all excavation activities, adequate safety barriers, sign boards, advance
warning signs would be utilized.
 As soon as the excavation reaches the required depth, NRC Engineer will
confirm the measurements and give the authorization for further works.

Backfilling
 Upon completion of the excavation, backfilling shall only be carried out
when the 15x20x40cm cement block wall filled with mass concrete has
dosed at 350kg/m3 on two courses to stabilize the apron of the latrine
pit has been done.
 But prior to backfilling the wall shall be accepted by the Engineer.

II.2 Method Statement for Concreting Works

Reinforcement

Formwork shall be provided on top of the block wall to support the fresh concrete
until it can get sufficient strength to carry it self-weight.
The reinforcements for the slap of the pit latrine shall be HA Rod 10mm with
spacing 15cm for main reinforcements and HA Rod 8 with spacing 20cm for
secondary reinforcements
The reinforcements shall be tie to each other by means of a binding wire.
The batching of the concrete shall be done respecting the dosage given in the
technical description and in the presence of the Engineer and well mix to give a
homogenous mixture.
After the mixing, the concrete will be put in place by means of buckets and other
tools to its final resting place.
It is intended to cut and bend rebar on site in accordance with bar bending
schedules.
When concrete reach proposed level; hand troweling shall be carry out to get a
smooth surface according to the top footing level.

The partitioning layout will be done as per the technical drawing specification and
design.

II.4.4 Work Methodology

Preparation prior to laying block works:

 Use approved drawings for work.

 Ensure that the block materials are approved.
 Ensure that the block accessories complied t o the specification and approved.
Mixing mortar:
 Use cement mortar of one-part ordinary Portland cement to four parts sand (1:3).
 Mix sand and cement in dry condition then add water till the proper
consistency of the mortar.
 Use a polythene sheets or a plywood boards for mortar mix purpose and avoid
the direct mix in concrete floor.
 Keep the area clean and empty from any obstructions.
 Before setting out of the first layer, wet the floor bed with water before laying
mortar to prevent the absorption of water.
 Set out the first layer of block walls as per approved drawings.
 The Engineer shall check and approve the block walls setting out.

4
The walls of the latrine shall be executed with corrugated Aluminum zinc of 0.35mm
nail to frames and purlins.
Procedure:
 Holes shall be dug on the ground following the dimensions (intervals) on the
plans. The depth of the holes shall be atlas 50cm deep to ensure that the frames
are buried in the ground to give it sufficient strengths.
 The frames shall be coated with engine oil to prevent it from fungai attack and the
base shall be filled with cement mortar.
 The frames shall be maintained vertically with the support of horizontal and
vertical bracing to give the whole structure a sufficient strength.
 After the frames are completed, aluminum corrugated zinc shall be used to
enclosed the structure.

II.5 Method Statement for Installation of Roof

Materials

 0.35mm Aluminium roofing sheet

 Hard wood for rafters, purlins and ceiling joist
 Facia boards
 Nails and other accessories

II.5.3 Site Planning & Preparation

Handling:

5
 Roofing sheets will all be stored in a flat room to avoid deformation.
 When handling individual sheets, care should be taken not to damage edges or
corners, as they may interfere with sheet laying operations and, prevent the
achievement of a weatherproof seal. Insulated sheet should be lifted from
beneath the bonded insulation and never by the aluminum alone as this may
cause the bond between the sheet and the insulation to break.
 Wood should be season to avoid deformation due to heat.
Storage:

 Ideally, cladding should be stored under cover in the original packing and in
a dry, well-ventilated position.
 Even crated material should be stored under cover, to protect it from the
weather.
 It is important to keep the sheets well away from building operations where
they could be contaminated with lime and cement, which would cause staining.
If they are stored for more than a short time out of their packaging, precautions
should be taken to see that moisture is not allowed to percolate between them.
 If sheets are stored in the open, they should be kept off the ground and
covered with polythene sheeting. Care must be taken to ensure that the
timber battens used in building the stack are aligned and keep the tarpaulin off
the metal. Wet tarpaulins in contact with bare sheet should be avoided. When
covering sheets with tarpaulins it is important to ensure there is adequate
ventilation to prevent condensation occurring.
 Stacks of loose sheets should not be built too high or the bottom sheets may
spread.

Project Site Condition:

Work w o u l d p r o c e e d o n l y w h e n /depending o n a c t u a l s i t e condition and
weather forecast so that damages which might occurred would be prevented.
Roof - Frames
- Hard wood frame (eucalyptus)
- Roof trusses

The trusses will be executed with hardwood.

Purlins: They will be in hardwood of section 5x5cm according to the

indication of the plans.
Fascia board: The fascia board used will be 20 cm wide and 03 cm thick. It will be
made of hard wood and planed on one side and will receive an aluminum coating
(hemmed strip). Sprocket: 4x8 batten connecting purlins.
The Roof Cover: The roofing will be made of sheets or corrugated sheets in

6
Aluminum 0.35mm in a length of 3 m fixed on the purlins by 8 x 80 lag screws with
accessories for the infrastructures with wooden frame.

II.7 Method Statement for Finishing

The task involve here shall be, Provide, prepare and execute floor with cement mortar and
a trowel finish screed to give a smooth surface to the toilet and bath room floor.

The procedure for realizing this shall be as follows:

 Batching of cement mortar for the screed, the dosage of the mortar shall be strictly
respected as it is the technical specification document.
 After the batching, the mortar will be mix and spread on the entire floor and
compacted with the help of a wooden float and the given a float cut making sure
that a gentle slope is given to ease the flow of water during cleaning.
 After a float finish topping, cement shall be mixed and spread on the floor and the
trowel shall be used to give it a smooth finished.

II.8 Method Statement for Inclusions and Environment

Inclusions and Environment works shall be subdivided into three activities which are
outline below as follows:

a. Provide, prepare and cast mass concrete for steps and ramps in front of the latrine.
Ramps placed at least 1m from verandas and have a gradient of 2% shined and
roughened.

 The ramp shall be realized in mass concrete and give a rough top finish to
prevent users from slipping off.
 The gradient shall be strictly respected in order to give comfort to the users

b. Provide and install hand washing unit composed of 25 litres bucket on fabricated
iron stands with collection of waste water directed to shallow gravel fill sock pit
filled with river stones

8
c. Excavate 1 meter diameter soak-away pit and fill with river stones and provide and
execute mass concrete slap to cover soak-away pit. Connect pit to hand washing
facility, bathroom et al with the use of 63mm PVC pipe.
