Climate Change
Impacts on Society
Karen Xiomara Galeano Contreras
Intensive Course English 2023-1S
Potential effects that climate change has
on the national and global economy

There are several ways in which climate change can potentially

affect global and national economies. To begin, there could be a
very big impact on the infrastructure, like material damage, loss of
crops, and disruption of economic production. Furthermore, there
are also indirect costs associated with the presence of high
temperatures, such as a decrease in productivity and illnesses
related to the weather. This phenomenon can cause a change in
consumption patterns and production too. One of the drought’s
effects could be a decrease in agricultural production and this in
turn can provoke an increase in food prices. Another important
consequence has to do with the cost of energy. Energy could be
more expensive to regulate climate change indoors. The
companies in the financial sector, especially those related to fuel
and different energy supplies could present changes in their stock
market stability
How can wildfires, reduced access to
water, and diseases have negative
impacts on human life?
Wildfires are very dangerous for human life since the forests are
the planet’s lungs, they are in charge of absorbing the carbon
dioxide from the atmosphere and delivering oxygen. Without this
important function, we put at risk the air quality and also the
biodiversity. This last has a very big impact on the ecosystems;
for example, if bees die because of wildfires, this can decrease
food production and plant pollination.
Forests are also important for the water cycle and climate
regulation which can affect food production. For the
communities that depend on agriculture and cattle raising to
survive, wildfires put their food safety at risk. Also, it could
increase the conflicts for natural resources, which can end in
life loss and forced displacement of communities.
An example of an ecosystem that is “exceeding
capacity”?

An example of an ecosystem that is exceeding capacity is the

Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It is the world’s largest coral reef
system, so it is the home of multiple marine species, such as fish,
marine turtles, and sharks, among others. The acidification of
water and the increasing level of temperature has dramatically
affected the ecosystem. Climate change has provoked a
decrease in the coral’s health and biodiversity. This in turn has a
bad impact on the ecosystem’s capacity, so it cannot provide
suitable habitats for the species in there. Additionally,
sedimentation, pollution, and overfishing decrease the capacity of
the ecosystem even more, so it cannot keep its balance and
functionality.

Are longer growing seasons are a negative aspect

of climate change in some regions?

Yes, longer growing seasons can be negative

because they can increase the usage of
water. which can deplete this resource in
some regions. In these seasons, the most
common climate is associated with high
temperatures and they can lead to more pest
and disease pressure on crops. This, in turn,
causes an increase in the use of pesticides
that harm local ecosystems.
Examples of how can climate change be
positive in certain cases

There can be some positive effects of Climate

change in the short term and in certain regions
or scenarios. For example, productivity in
agriculture can increase due to warmer
temperatures and this can expand the range of
crops that can be grown.

Another benefit is related to a reduced energy

demand for heating, especially in colder
regions and also it could happen that tourism
increases in these too-cold places.

Movies: Monster Inc - Monsters University

Deciding which movie is better between Monsters Inc. and Monsters University is not
an easy task since the first one is as light-hearted as the second one. Both have
their own unique charms. Although Monsters University was the most acclaimed, it’s
important to remember how excited people were during the premiere of the first
movie. Moreover, it’s hard to forget the astonishing ending of Monsters Inc, which left
us all wondering what would happen next. The plot was also very moving: Sullivan
seemed to be happier than ever since Boo came into his life. The funniest scene was
when the monsters brought Boo into their apartment and she began to touch
everything until she cried and the lights went out. After that, a stereo fell on Mike's
head and the lights exploded because of Boo's laugh. In some ways, we think that
Monsters Inc is more comical than Monsters University but the latter has a better
resolution and a deeper plot.
