MODULE 1

OVERVIEW

Dear learners, you have come this far in completing your module. First Quarter was a
bit challenging and I want to congratulate you for completing it. In this module, you will learn
everything about forms in music. However, constant practice and review of the lesson is still
important.

At the end of the module, you are expected to:

1. identify simple music forms and its repeat marks.

2. sing songs in different music forms.

3. Appreciate the songs in different music forms.

 Enthusiasm and complete cooperation are needed in this module and


lessons.
 Do not put any markings on this Module as there are still other
learners who will be using it. Use a separate notebook to be labeled
as “MY MAPEH MODULE NOTEBOOK” to keep your answers in each
activity. Be sure to LABEL your work according to the Module,
lessons and the date you work on it.
 Each Module has an objective and instructions. Read them and
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY.

This lesson contains everything about the simple musical forms; giving you an idea of
the types of forms commonly used. It will also teach you on how to appreciate the musical
forms in your daily lives through singing. This lesson will also show you a lot of music sheet
analysis.

What is It

The songs above are examples of different musical forms. They are
represented by letters in order to show their parts and sections. Read the descriptions and
definitions below.

A. Unitary Form (example song: Pentik Manok)

- it contains only one section which remains the same all throughout the whole song
or composition.

- in the song below, it has the same notes and same pitch all throughout the entire
song.

B. Binary Form (example song: Paru-Parong Bukid)

-made up of two musical parts or has two different melodic ideas. It is represented by
letters A and B (AB).

C. Ternary Form (example song: Lupang HInirang)

-made up of three parts or three different melodic idea. Sometimes, the third part is a
repetition of the 1st part, thus represented by the letters A,B and A. (ABA)

-it is also represented by the letters A,B,C (ABC) like the song Lupang Hinirang
below.

D. Rondo Form (example song: Maligayang Araw)

-made up of five or more musical parts with some repetitions.

- it is represented by letters ABACA. The 1st , 3rd and 5th parts are repeated or has the
same melody.
