1.3 Load Calculations

1.3.1 Load case 1:- Dead Load of Structure (Ds)
This includes only self weight of the structure.
The self weight of the structure is applied in the staad by the SELF WEIGHT command.

Y
X
Z Load 101

Load due to soil pressure

Soil Weight = 18 kN/m2
Base of Raft from Ground Level = 2.5 m
Soil Pressure on Raft = 18 x 2.5 = 45 kN/m

1.8.1.1 Dead Load of Concrete Floor at EL+108 m Level

CHEMTEX DOC. NO. EIT075-49-00-XX REV0 SHEET 13] OF 48]
a) 150 thick slab = 0.15 * 25 = 3.75 kN/m2 Density of concrete = 25 kN/m3
b) Lights, HAVC, piping loads 1.1 kN/m2 As per Specification No.EIT075-49-00-01 REV P3
c) Floor finish (40 thk.) 1.0 kN/m2
Total 5.9 kN/m2

1.8.1.2 Dead Load on Truss Roof above EL+117 m Level

Truss is modeled in STAAD ,hence remainig load are taken as follows
a) Dead weight of roof cover sheet = 0.11 kN/m2 sandwiched cold panel sheets of
thickness =60 mm is considered
b) Dead weight of Purlins and rafter bracing = 0.25 kN/m2
Total 0.36 kN/m2
Dead load of roof cover sheet, perlin and rafter bracings are applied as UDL on top chord of truss
UDL is calculated as fo ..UDL = uniformly distributed load
If a truss has contributery length 11 m in both left and Right hand side then
UDL = 11 * 3..this UDL is applied in 'STAAD' using 'MEMBER LOAD' command
c) Dead weight of ducting support arrangement = 0.5 kN/m2
..this load is applied as UDL on bottom of bottom chord of truss

1.8.2 Load case 2:- Operating Dead Load (Do)

a) Opearating Dead Load = 5.0 kN/m2
.. is applied as area load in 'STAAD' using 'FLOOR LOAD' command

a) Load for APH(Automatic Product Handling ) system = 80.0 kN Per bay

this load is at floor at EL+108 m Level Ref.Equipment layput Dwg.
and is to be distriuted as area loda for a width of 6.0 m from Grid-B' No.502152-9999-075.DWG
Panels with span 11.0 m
so intensity of area load = 80/ ( 6*11 ) = 1.212 .. Take 1.25 kN/m2
Panels with span 10.0 m
so intensity of area load = 80/ ( 6*10 ) = 1.333 .. Take 1.35 kN/m2
1.8.3 Load case 3:- Empty Dead Load (De)
No Load applied for this case

1.8.4 Load case 4:- Test Dead Load (Dt)

No Load applied for

1.8.5 Load case 5 : Live load ( L )

The intensity of live load is considered as 5.0 KN /m2 for working platform( refer Design basis )
and applied as a one way slab loading at platform at EL+108.0m.
The intensity of live load is considered as 0.75 KN /m2 on sloping roof ( refer Design basis )
and applied as a one way loading on Top chord of roof truss above EL+117.0m.

PROJECT:

1.0 METHODOLOGY:

Since it was observed that isolated footings for the aforementioned columns were overlapping with each
other, it was necessary to provide a common raft for these columns.

Support reactions considering fixed supports were extracted from the main STAAD.Pro model to maintain
compatibility with other columns where isolated footings have been provided.

A separate finite element model was generated as per the raft / column geometry & the reactions
extracted from the main model were applied as loads on this model.

Plate mat supports were provided at each node of the plates forming the raft.

Subgrade modulus for these supports was calculated as SBC / assumed settlement.
Settlement for aformentioned calculation of subgrade modulus is assumed to be 40 mm for raft foundation.

The results from the raft model were then used for checking the following parameters.

A) Maximum & Minimum gross bearing pressure

B) Bending moment at the face of the column

C) Punching shear force at d/2 away from the face of the column

D) One way shear force at d away from the face of the column

Note:
For extracting results from the FEM model, 3 groups of plates were created.

i) In the group titled "FOR_BM" only the plates under the columns have been ignored such that
results fetched thus, will give values at the face of the column

ii) In the group titled "FOR_TWOWAY_SF" besides the plates under the columns, plates adjacent to the
columns, corresponding to a width of "d/2" have also been ignored, thereby giving us
results at "d/2" away from face of the column. (d corresponds to effective depth of raft)

iii) In the group titled "FOR_ONEWAY_SF" besides the plates under the columns, plates adjacent to the
columns, corresponding to a width of "d" have also been ignored, thereby giving us
results at "d" away from face of the column. (d corresponds to effective depth of raft)

iv) All the plates are modelled in such a way that Local Z axis of plate points upwards.

6.2 Input

Grade of concrete fck = 40 N/sqmm

Grade of steel fy = 500 N/sqmm
Preliminary size of reinforcing bar = 25 mm
Concrete cover = 65 mm
Effective depth of raft d = 897.5 mm
Coefficient of friction between soil & concrete μ = 0.4
Maximum allowed loss of contact = 5 %

Unit weight of concrete = 25 kN/cum

Unit weight of dry soil = 19 kN/cum
Unit weight of submerged soil = 19 - 10 = 9 kN/cum

Length of the Raft = 22.00 m

Widht of the Raft = 13.00 m
Area of the Raft = 286.00 sqm
Thickness of the Raft = 1.30 m
Bottom of Raft below FGL = 3.15 m
Bottom of Raft below NGL = 3.15 m

Factor of Safety against overturning = 1.2

Factor of Safety against sliding = 1.2
Factor of Safety against buoyancy = 1.2

Allowable bearing capacity of soil

Net safe bearing capacity = 340 kN/sqm
Gross safe bearing capacity = 340 + 3.15 x 19 = 400 kN/sqm
Gross safe bearing capacity (Wind) = 340 x 1.25 + 19 x 3.15 = 485 kN/sqm
Gross safe bearing capacity (Seismic) = 340 x 1.5 + 19 x 3.15 = 570 kN/sqm

Gross safe bearing capacity (Seismic) = 570 kN/sqm

Load calculations

Selfweight of raft = 286 x 1.3 x 25 = 9295 kN

Selfweight of dry soil above raft = 286 x 1.85 x 19 = 10053 kN
Selfweight of submerged soil above raft = 286 x 1.85 x 9 = 4762 kN
Selfweight of water above raft = 286 x 1.85 x 10 = 5291 kN
Buoyant force = 286 x 10 x 1 = 2860 kN

Downward loads due to Raft & Soil

Dry Soil Condition = 9295 + 10053 = 19348 kN

= 19348 / 286 = 67.7 kN/sqm

Submerged Soil Condition = 9295 + 4762 + 5291 - 2860 = 16488 kN

= 16488 / 286 = 57.7 kN/sqm

6.3 Check for stability of foundation

Note - Stability checks are taken in submerged soil condition only (Dry soil condition will not govern)

6.3.1 Check for Buoyancy

Selfweight of above Raft

Factor of safety = = 24110 / 2860 = 8.43
Buoyant Force

6.3.2 Check for Overturning

Stabilizing moment
Factor of safety =
Overturning moment

Vertical Load = Vertical load from load combination + Load from Soil & Raft in submerged case

Fy = Vertical load from load combination + 16488

Calculation of Stabilizing moments

Stabilizing moment for Mx = Fy.L / 2 = V x 13 / 2 = 6.50 V kNm

Stabilizing moment for Mz = Fy.B / 2 = V x 22 / 2 = 11.00 V kNm
