Preliminary Design Review
Description of Design
Telescoping Frame: Serves as a base to the motors/clamps and as a dolly spacing mechanism. Frame is
extended/contracted based desired distance between front and back dollies. Preset measurements for spacing are
indicated by pin holes. Once frame is set, pins are placed through the holes to secure the position.
Clamp: Point of connection to the dollies. Once in place, clamps will hold dollies in place so that the entire system
moves as one unit. Clamps are controlled by the motor and rotate up/down from the frame.
Handle: Attached at the end of the frame which helps operators to adjust the frame without bending down.
Wheels: Attached at the bottom of frame which allows the system to move easily.
Drive Shaft: Transfers torque from the DC Motor to the clamp, allowing the clamp to move from it’s lower position
to the upright position and vice versa.
Shaft Coupling: Couples the shaft on the motor to the drive shaft.

Description of Design
Spacer: Provides additional spacing between the frame and the mounted bearing to ensure that the mounted
bearing is at the same height as the drive shaft.
Mounted Bearing: Attaches the drive shafts to the clamps, allowing the clamps to rotate from their lower
positions to the upright position.
DC Motor: Provides rotational force to the drive shaft which ultimately rotates the clamp up and down.
Controller: Allows the operator to turn the motors on and off to control the up/down motion of the clamps.
