Imaging the KIP KCS
Introduction

The following instruction procedure will walk a technician through the process of Imaging the KIP System K
series printers. This can be done using a DVD restore image provided by KIP.

Prior to Imaging

Note: Before beginning this process consider backing up the existing settings.

• IP address

• Printer Name

• License

• Mailboxes

Note: If a folder is attached to the KIP Printer please back up the following .xml file that contains the folder
presets. This will be necessary to restore the current folder settings.

This can be found in this Location:

F:\PrintManageMentData\PrintManagementService\Database\user_folding_presets

In the System Tray of the KCS is a Backup tool, run this to back up the KCS.

Starting the Restore process

Please Review These Instructions Completely Before Imaging
Imaging the KIP System K hard drive will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Procedure for KIP Models:

• KIP 770K • KIP 7970K • 900 Series
• KIP 7170K • KIP 940

If the Stacker device is not connected to the stacker by the cable while the stacker is "enable", printer shows

an error "stacker is not connected"

KIP7770/7970
Connectable to the K54 stacker with having a communication through infrared sensors

Printer occasionally checks for the stacker, and automatically establishes connection if it detects the stacker

that is turned on. That is, the printer and stacker are connected automatically if only the printer recognizes

stacker, regardless of the setting of stacker (enable or disable) in Touch UI.

NOTE: The setting in touch UI, which switches between "enable" and "disable", decides whether or not the

error "Stacker is not connceted" is indicated or not when the stacker device is not connected.

Printer has error - Such as: Bin Full

"Job Interrupted" - is a status which was introduced for development only. It is assigned to jobs
in an unknown status during restart. As the status and the validity of such jobs are unknown, we
cannot allow these jobs to resume. The only valid operation is to be deleted.

22
KIP System K File Structure
The main File structure of the KCS controller consists of:

Step Action Illustration

1. OS (C:) - This is the drive that
contains the operating system
and is not used for anything else.
This drive is not touched.

2. KTA (D:) – Contains the KTAKCS

(Open API) Service

KTAKCS.ini - states the folder

setting (if a folder is available or
not)

Temp – The Open API queues

3. Mailbox (E:) – Displays default

mailboxes and created mailboxes
(local)

Mailboxes only show the created

GUID identification name not the
actual folder name.

4. KCS Folder (F:) - Contains the

Installation of the System K
software and all working folders of
System K

23
KCS (F:) LogFiles:
The log files folder has to be there for logs to be created. If the folder is deleted or missing the
logs will not be created.

The created log files are for each of the different processes. These logs can then be viewed
using the SCPTraceViewer.

SCPServerService.svclog – This is the log (use WCF – Windows Communication Foundation)

that is the actual communication between the controller and the Client.

SCPWPFTouch.svclog – these logs come from Microsoft and contain WCF information and may
be needed by KDD for troubleshooting.

ExternalClientMessages.svclog – these logs come from Microsoft and contain WCF information
and may be needed by KDD for troubleshooting.

There are different types of log reads: (see TraceViewer)

Method – Used by the developers

Info – On By Default

Warning– On By Default

Error– On By Default

Exception– On By Default

Dev– On By Default

Debug – not used

24
KCS (F:) PrintManagementData
This folder is created on startup.

This is the working software folder (the files in this folder tie into the KCS Component Visio file.

GFFData – This is basically the color engine – There are the data files stored here from the
Graphics Engine Raster Pattern.

PrintManagementExternalService – Contains various folders necessary for the service including

the .dat file with settings for the service.

PrintManagementHotFolderService– Contains various folders necessary for the service

including the .dat file with settings for the service.

file with settings for the service.

Temp – this folder should be empty

HPGL – This folder is typically empty

25
KCS (F:)
PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService

DataBase – This contains all system settings

and database information.

FilePool – Keeps submitted files for processing

and then they are deleted, If history is enabled it
will hold the files here.

GffData – Not Used

GffDebug – Show the log files for Size

Detection as well as preview genereation.

JobData – PendingJobsOrder.xml

Monpath1 – This is where the log files are

stored that the KIP Accounting Center uses.

Preview – Shows the preview of files.

Printer – This is the actual instance of the installed printer, this is created by the static printer.

Resource – Two folders

Font – not used

Image – holds stamps both default and custom

Scanner – This is the actual instance of the installed Scanner (if a scanner is present.

StaticPrinter – Default installation/information for all CURRENTLY available printing devices.

StaticScanner - Default installation/information for all CURRENTLY available scanning devices.

Scanner and this has all default settings.

UpdateRepository – This is where the Update.MSI file would go if and update was available.

PMS.dat – Keeps the setting of service component (service tab in PrintPro.net)

SCPServerServices.exe.config – Holds Print service core settings.

26
KCS (F:) PrintManagementServiceCore
This folder is the main System K install folder. The files in this folder are created from the image
and should not be edited (editing files should be done in the KCS (F:)
PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService folder).

However, if necessary (not recommended) it is possible to make changes here but this should
only be done by KIP technician. For example, if a customer purchased multiple KIP Printers it is
possible to set up one printer and then makes the necessary changes here to the
F:\PrintManagementServiceCore\StaticPrinter\K134_K137\Specific printer name.xml data file.

If a new .iso image is then made from this machine all other KIP printers could then be images
with the same settings.\

SCPServerService.exe.config (found in root of folder) – There is a KEY AddKey=Reset setting

True or False. This allows the system to reset every boot to default settings. This could be used
by SW Support so that if changes were made to a showroom machine for testing purposes upon
reboot the system would return to default settings.

27
KCS (F:)
PrintManagementData\PrintManagementPrintService

GffDebug – Printing/Ripping.txt

Ripping.txt – Shows the basic setup of the file as it was sent. KDD may need this file for
troubleshooting (may be part of the Job Ticket assembled)

Printing.txt – This is the Printer Data that comes from the Ripping process. In general if the
Ripping process completed without errors then the printing process should be good as well
(may be part of the Job Ticket assembled).

PGFCache – complete Rip Data, this folder contains a .PGF file that can be opened within KIP
PrintPro. This will show the ripped data (excluding Stamps). This file can be used by SW
Support to see the output data prior to printing for troubleshooting purposes.

Temp – This is typically an empty folder.

PrintServiceLocalStorage – Used for temporary files such as .ICC profiles, Stamps Ect…

KCS_PrintService.dat (config) – Contains all service settings

28

job is processed, so that the original large format job data (e.g. your print, scan, or copy job) is
no longer available for recovery to ensure your data is secure.

- Queue Privacy [check box]

When selected (used in conjunction with KIP Accounting Anonymous Use Off) will allow
signed in user to only be able to select/modify their jobs in the queue. All data on other jobs in
the queue will be masked with ************** so not information about other users jobs can be
gathered.

32
Other Machine Settings
- Media Zoom: [Edit Button]

Media zoom allows the user to change the aspect ratio of the print image by changing
percentage of X and Y axis independently.

The user can adjust between 90% - 110% in units of 1%.

Adjustment for individual media types

Use this adjustment to compensate for environmental changes made to the media.

This adjustment effects both Copy and Print modes.

- Use transport security [check box]

Checked = uses encrypted communication to and from the device. (SSL certificate encryption)

Unchecked= encryption not used

Note: Requires proper DNS resolution for this option to function.

Image Expansion

- Turn on Image Expansion [check box]

With "Image Expansion" enabled the trail and side edge margin settings are ignored in the
printer. This allows the LED to continue imaging the drum up to the trail edge and sides of the
print.

The trail edge margin is set from factory to 5mm. (blank space at trail edge is 5mm)

When Enabled the productivity of the printer is reduced because the inner copy gap is
increased. This allows the drum to be cleaned between each print.

This setting also affects the lead edge and the side margins of the print, along with the trail edge
margin.

job will be examined to see what kind of files are present (B&W or Color).

If all B&W Files, the printer will print at rated speed for B&W (20 D Per Min).

If all Color Files, the printer will print at rated speed for Color (16 D Per Min).

If a mixed set of files (B&W and Color), the content of the job will be examined and the best
speed for printing will be used.

35
SNMP Settings
- SNMP Settings [Edit button]:

Allows for the changing of the SNMP community string if something other than the default
“Public” is being used on the customers network.

Community - The SNMP Read-Only Community String is like a password. It is sent along with
each SNMP Get-Request and allows (or denies) access to device. The KIP Printer is shipped
with a default password of "public". (This is the so-called "default public community string".)
Starting with The KIP Cost Center version 1.4.0.8 the community string can be set to something
other than “public”.

- Larger than previous print – separator sheet size will be determined by the last sheet size
printed plus the value entered in the Sheet Height box.

Media Quality Control

Enable Media QC Print [On/Off Button]

Under a certain usage environment, the first print of a job sometimes would have a wrinkle or an
image void if the prints are made with a roll media left in the deck for a long period. “Forced
Initial Cut Before Print” makes an automatic initial cut (almost 1 revolution of a roll media) at the
leading edge before processing a job to obtain image quality and feed balance in such
conditions.

37
Special Modes:
- Enable Low Temperature Mode [check box]

Enabling this mode will increase the inner copy gap allowing the fuser to reach proper fuser
temperature between each print

When the printer is used in a low temperature and low humidity condition the printing media is
likely to be creased.

While printing large jobs, the fusing roller will reduce temperature quickly in this type
environment.

This mode is available on 7770K, 7970K, 770K and 7170K

- Enable High Coverage Mode [check box]

High Coverage Mode enabled allows more toner to be available on the Developer roller during
high coverage printing.

This is done by increasing the amount of toner attraction between the Toner Supply/ Developer
roller and Regulation/ Developer roller.

This Mode is available on 7770K and 7970K

- Enable High Quality Mode [check box]

Functions with the KIP 7970 (only) to increase the inner-print delay as needed.

- Enable Long Print Margin [check box]

Adds media to the trailing edge of the output if supported by Printer Hardware.

- Enable H/H Environment Mode [check box]

Enabling this mode will move the media wait position close to the roll in decks 2 and 4

When the printer is used in a high temperature and high humidity condition the printing media
from Roll 2 or Roll 4 is likely to be creased. This occurs when Roll 2 and Roll 4 are left at the
normal wait position (which is very far from the roll itself) for a very long time; the media will
become wavy due to the exposure to the humid air.

This mode is available on 7770K, 7970K and 770K

- Ignore Borders – AC by default will apply a .20 border on all sides of a print. Checking the box for “Ignore
Borders” will ignore the .20 border applied.

- File Exclusions – Excludes file extensions that are not allowed for printing. Selectable by Admin.

HPGL Options

- Minimum Line Width – Sets the minimum line weight that the printer will print. Lines below the minimum will
be made thicker to match the minimum value set..

- Minimum Grayscale – Sets the minimum grayscale that the printer will print. grayscales below the minimum
will be made darker to match the minimum value set.

General

- Detect Color – used to make the software detect the color of selected files. When active the software will
examine each file individually to determine the manner in which the file should be printed (B&W, Grayscale or
Color) and set the file with this color quality setting. NOTE: if large quantities of files are selected this can slow
down the adding/viewing of the files as each file has to be examined. Also on the Printing end if the job sent is
a mixed set of B&W and Color this can slow printing down as well.

Placement

‐ Position (dropdown list)

Sets image position on page; on left edge, center or right edge.

‐ Auto Rotation (dropdown list)

These options are used when the Auto Rotation in initiated by various settings and media roll sizes. The image
size is not affected by this setting.

Oversize ‐will automatically rotate the image only if the landscape image is larger than the media width
selected. Smaller sized images will maintain their orientation on the media selected.

Fast Print ‐ determines if the portrait image can be rotated to fit landscape on any available media roll. Or a
landscape image can be rotated to fit on any available media roll.

Paper Save Clockwise ‐ sets rotation direction if the portrait image can be rotated to fit landscape on any
available media roll

Paper Save Counter Clockwise ‐ sets rotation direction if the portrait image can be rotated to fit landscape on
any available media roll

‐ Default B&W Media (dropdown list)

Sets default media type

‐ Default Color Media (dropdown list)

Sets default media type

‐ Enable maximum wastage (%) [check box]

Maximum allowable waste to print small size images on larger sheet sizes.

Prevents small images from printing on the largest size roll based on the wastage percentage. This is used so
that the least amount of waste is produced when printing.

when set to (1) the least amount of waste is allowed

when set to (100) the maximum amount of waste is allowed.

Compare this option to the “Exact” and “Closest” options found in IPS Unattend.

1% or OFF = “Exact”

100% = “Closest”

Between 1% and 100% is used to select a smaller roll size producing less waste.
42
‐ Enable roll width tolerance [check box]

When enabled by check mark allows user to set a value (1‐15) in millimeters using a slider or direct entry. The
default value is 3mm. This adjustment considers the "Position" setting to determine which edge (left, right or
both) is digitally trimmed. For instance, if "Right" is selected then the right side

of the image is trimmed by the amount in millimeters entered. "Center" will trim both sides equally to the
tolerance amount.

NOTE: The definition of each increment (mm) or (") is determined by the language set in
PrintPro.Net ("More" pull down list at upper right of screen).

Schedule jobs on loaded media sizes only [check box]

This feature controls whether the system can choose only between roll sizes which are loaded (default), or
even include roll sizes which are not (yet) loaded.

If this is switched on (default):

Jobs which come in for roll size “Auto” (default on Print Pro + Print Pro Net; non-folding jobs), will be placed on
the next loaded roll size. If a “Wastage” constraint is active, a valid size might not be found, hence the job will
stay in queue showing “Wastage exceeded”. In case a job is hold in the queue, other jobs will bypass this job,
so the queue is not blocked.

If this is switched off:

Jobs which come in for roll size “Auto” (default on Print Pro + Print Pro Net; non-folding jobs), will be placed on
the next possible roll size (even if currently not loaded). If a “Wastage” constraint is active, a valid size might
not be found, hence the job will stay in queue showing “Wastage exceeded”. But even without wastage
constraint, the job might not print because the roll size is not loaded (or has different media). In such case, the
media configuration screen will show up asking for the required media. The queue will be blocked until the
correct media is loaded or the job is deleted.

This means switching this new function “off” (uncheck) will allow for a queue behavior similar to “Exact” in old
IPS/KS8, if used together with “Enable Maximum Wastage” function.

Toner Settings
‐ Copy Levels (dropdown list)

Sets print density. Affects only prints run in "Copy Mode"

‐ Print Levels (dropdown list)

Sets print density. Affects all prints except what is run in "Copy Mode"

‐ Enable Transfer Support [check box]

The light discharges the drum reducing the electrical attraction between the media and drum allowing the toner
and media to release from the drum surface more easily.

A) Default interface language

This setting is nothing you can see in the UI directly.

Instead, the language selected here gets copied over to
the current user session language setting (see B). So, if a
user logs in who does not have a language preference
(languages can be assigned to users in KAC, user setup)
the users session gets the language from this default. If
the user has a language assigned, this default language
here gets ignored.

Please keep in mind that the anonymous user also gets

logged-in (automatically), so even if you do not make a
login explicitly, there's always a user is logged in with a
session and a session based language setting.

- This setting only shows up in Touch settings if the

logged in user has at least the "Administrator" role

- This setting can also be changed from PPN, "System

Setup", "Touch interface Settings", in case you are a user
with at least "Administrator" role

17.

B) Interface language

This is the setting for the current session, so the one that
affect the language the UI is really running in. As
described in A), it can either come from the "Default
Interface language" setting, or it gets from the users
language property (if set in KAC) during log-in.

- Even if the user has a language assigned in KAC, he

can change it for the current Touch session with this
setting.

- Changes here are only valid for the current session, and
changes get lost after logout / restart.

- If you want to change a user's language permanently, us

KAC and assign a different one. But if you want to change
the language for all users, change the default in A) and do
not assign a language to each individual user

SystemK Controller: Network Identification via IEEE 802.1x

The WeS7 controller build DOES NOT have the Wired Autoconfig Service so IEEE 802.1x is N/A on these
devices

The LTSB W10 controller DOES have this service (needs to be set to automatic start) Once the service is
started, you could configure the necessary authentication parameters at the OS level (properties of the network
adapter).

There is no SYSK UI for these operations.

How To
Importing Accounting Data From KS8 (IPS) to System K (KCS)
– Creating your own .csv file.
Issue:

Customer has multiple entries in the current accounting software on the KS8 and needs to be able to put these
into the System K KCS

Importing of Project Numbers in the KIP Accounting Center software. It is possible to copy the IPS Project
data to a new Excel sheet and make a new CSV for KIP Accounting Center to IMPORT and store on each
machine.

1. With System K there are now 3 CSV files: one for each Accounting field, 1. Users, 2. Projects, 3.
Departments.

2. The CSV file submitted by Archive Supply shows that they are using the Projects field for a little over 440
projects

3. I opened the FILE: “PDMS-Jobs from KIP IPS” text file in Excel. I then copied the Projects entries into a
new spread sheet.

4. In Excel, I left columns B,C,D blank and used E for enabling and disabling the entry. (B-D are blank, E is
for True/False). True to Enable the item, False to Disable. (FILE: Projects-Archive Supply Export from
Excel.csv)

5. I then exported the Excel file as a CSV, but it is missing a line of info needed by KAC that is not put there
by Excel.

6. Open the new CSV in Notepad and add to a new line at the top: sep=,

7. Save the new CSV (FILE: Project – Archive Supply with SEP.CSV)

8. Use KIP Accounting Center to IMPORT the new CSV. It takes about 30 seconds to absorb all the entries
and update the Database.

Picture of CSV with manually added info that is required by System K:

68
How to update ALL new entries – Creating your own .csv.
1. Updating large lists of projects/departments is currently a bit cumbersome. When importing a NEW list
into KAC, it always APPENDS, which isn’t ideal. Basically, customers can easily append the list of projects
with a few entries at time, but have to manually remove unwanted entries. Our programmers know this and
will make changes in the future.

2. Using KAC you can remove entries one at a time but this is slow and tedious.

3. In order to update ALL the entries at one time, there is a quick work around:

4. Using Excel or Notepad, create your new CSV file that includes all the Projects. Add the sep=, as noted
above with Notepad.

5. At System K, exit the Touch, access the Services and STOP the SCPServer Service

6. At System K, browse to F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService\Database and delete the two

files: Authorizationdb.mdf and Authorization_log.ldf

7. Restart System K

8. After booting is complete, go to Workstation and use KAC to IMPORT the new list or Users, Projects, and
or Departments.

69
Transferring IPS/KCS Accounting to System K – Using KIP
Track and KIP Accounting Center

This document will explain how to get the accounting from legacy accounting transferred to System K
software. You will need The Kip Track System (from IPS/KCS) and the Kip Accounting Center for
System K.

1. Install and Open Kip Track System on the local workstation. Open the program, type in the password and say no
to append the current accounting data. If this question does not appear just move to the next step.

70
2. Click on the Import button at the bottom of the screen and answer yes to import your accounting information from
the printer.

71
3. Type in the IP address of your printer and hit OK to populate the information from the printer.

4. Now we need to save your File as a .csv file by hitting the Export button at the bottom of the page. Make sure you
give it a file name and save it as a .csv.

72
5. Open the KIP Accounting Center software on your PC. Now we to create one user/job number for each section
that you need to import data to, then export that data to get the format we need for system k. For example we will
use the projects. Create a user in the Projects area and after the name is created click on the export button at the
bottom of the Accounting Center. Make sure you give it a recognizable name.

6. Open your .csv file and from the KIP Track System in Excel. It will appear similar as below. Under column A is the
number 1, this signifies the users, 2 the projects and 3 the departments. Column B is the usernames and Column
C is the passwords.

7. For this example we will copy projects. Copy the three Projects from column B in the previous example (Kip1,
Kip2 and Kip3).

73
8. Open the Projects .csv that was saved in Step 5 from the KIP Accounting Center in Excel. The layout will appear
as follows. Column A and D are the only columns we will be using. A is the name and D is the passwords. Please
note that if you do not have password for the project or departments column D will be hashed.

9. Paste the copied projects from step 7 and put them in column A under the project name you created. If you have
passwords copy them and paste them into column D otherwise you can leave column D alone.

10. Save your file and answer yes to keep the same format.

74
11. Now go back to KIP Accounting Center and go to the Projects section. We will now click on the Import button and
select the last .csv we saved.

75
12. You will now see that the Projects have imported.

13. You can now delete the sample Project you created to remove it from the list.
14. Repeat the same process for the Departments.
15. For Users the layout looks slightly different. You must have a password and a role assigned for the users. The
password still goes in Column D and you assign a role in column N (the available roles are listed in the
Accounting Center software under the Roles section). Lastly but not mandatory you can enter a first name in
column F and last name in column G if you wish.

76
Editing the Host File – Work Around for No DNS Resolution.
Issue:

When trying to download the KIP software from KIP PrintPro.Net an error occurs
during download.

How to test for DNS Name Resolution:

From Command Line try to ping the KIP Printer by Name example. C:\Ping 850-A-SR
(850-A-SR is the printer name given to the printer during install). Select enter and this will fail.

Resolution (how to get around this issue):

Browse to the following location

C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ETC and look
for the file named “Host”

Open this Host file in Notepad. This is what will

be is this file:

It will be necessary to edit this file to include

the KIP Printer IP Address and Printer Name
so name resolution can be done. Follow the
same syntax as the others in this list. Please
note the # sign is not necessary,

77
Note: it may be necessary to open this file as an Administrator:

Open Run Menu and type Notepad

Right Click on Notepad and select Run as Administrator

Once notepad opens, select “File”

Select “Open”

Browse to the location of the “Host” file

C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc

Open the “Host” file

It will be necessary to edit this file to include

the KIP Printer IP Address and Printer Name this way name resolution can be done. Follow the same syntax
as the others in this list. Please note the #
sign is not necessary,

Please note: it will be necessary to do this

at each workstation. As stated this is a
workaround for environments where the IT
staff has not set up DNS Name Resolution
on their network. Always discuss this with the IT Admin so they have the option to configure this
correctly on the network side if they choose to do so.

78
Editing the Main System XML file to contain the KeyCode
It is possible to edit the PrintManagementSetting.dat file so that it contains the System Keycode. Doing this
would ensure that the System Keycode is always present in the system.

Step Action Illustration

1. Stop SCPServerService

Close GUI

Open Diagnostics folder

Open Services

2. Scroll down to the SCP ServerService,

select it and choose Stop the service

3. Open the KCS (F:) Drive

browse to
F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagement
Service

Select the PrintManagementSetting.dat file

Delete this file

79
4. Open the KCS (F:) Drive

browse to F:\PrintManagementServiceCore

Select the SCPServerService.exe Config

file

Open this file in Notepad

Find the line <add key= “KeyCode” Value=

“” />

Enter the SystemKeycode (including the

dashes) into this line between the “” marks.

Save this file and Reboot. This will write the System Keycode in to this file and
upon reboot will recreate the
PrintManagementSetting.dat file located here
F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService
(step 3)

Adjusting Sleep Timers in the XML

For Testing Purposes it is possible to set the Warm and Cold Sleep Timers to lower values than the
PrintProNet allows. Follow these steps:

Go to F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService

Edit the PrintManagemenSystemSetting.dat file

Change the value of Cold Sleep PT30M to PT8M (for 8 Minutes)

Disconnect Keyboard/Mouse and reboot the system so that all the settings are correctly loaded.

HPGL Parameters – These settings can be used when creating
a new HPGL Preset.
Parameter What it does

-G # [,#] Affects greyscale level of embedded raster images, and can also affect dithered lines. First
value affects raster images. Second value, if applied, affects vector dithered lines. Format
would be -G x,y

-Y # Minimal amount of grayscale shading. This can be a value from 0-9. 0 shows all grayscale
gradations down to 3%. A value of 9 shows no grayscale gradations below 30%.

-F # Windows font name, needs quotes if name contains space characters

-k use Windows font

-p #,#,# override pen setting, pen no/pattern (gray scale)/width in mm

[…]

-u use pen overrides

-c use pen settings from plot file

Note: -u and –c exclude each other, the last one specified is used

-e use line ends from plot file

-: # (Values 1-9) this is a minimum line thickness switch (value in pixels), This will not allow any line
to be printed thinner than the minimum value set.

-W # Affects vector line width by adding or subtracting pixels. Values (-3.0 to 3.0). This feature is
now built into the Request Pen Table.

-Z # Dither pattern for vector area (fills). This can be a value of either 0,4,6 or 8 from fine to coarse
respectively. This value will probably match the -N setting, so that the vector line dither
matches the vector fill dither.

-N # Affects the dither pattern of vector line fill. Values (0 = Fine, 4 = Medium).

-h # Affects the dither pattern of raster data. Values (0,4, 6 or 8).

-a merge

-P photo mode for raster

-D # Forces raster images to 300 DPI, to compensate for raster images looking ‘squished’ or out of
place on some files created with HP drivers.

-X Clip and Fit, clips to image size and fits to the paper size use inked area size.

-A use inked area size if smaller

-r make all non-white pens black (-r was “red” before, not used anymore, so we’re borrowing it)

-9 This will enforce 16 bit, even without LM1 being set.

-2 Sets missing Transparency command explicitly (Esc+v#N TR1=ON, TR2=OFF) depending on

type and clipping of the image.

81
Options not supported, since they will interfere with PrintPro operation (PrintPro cannot deal with sizes
different from those reported for file details, unless it knows about any changes requested from its own UI):

-d, -S, -B, -b, -R

Calcomp options (-C) are not supported, because the Calcomp reader automatically detects start/end
characters and checksum status, so those options are not needed.

-D is supported but can have an adverse effect if the whole page consists of an RTL, since it changes the
page size. However, it may be useful for RTLs embedded into a vector page.

82
Manually Backing up Mailboxes
The Internal Restore function by definition will restore the system to default setup. This procedure will also
remove existing scan locations and all contents of these locations. Prior to restoring the hard drive it will be
necessary to back up the existing Mailboxes so that scanned data is not lost. Follow these instructions prior to
running the Internal Restore:

Close the GUI of the KIP System K printer

With a Keyboard attached to the KIP printer select the Alt+F4 key

Double tap the KIP Logo (top left corner) then single tap the top right corner and finally tap the KIP Logo one
more time.

Open the Diagnostics folder on the main screen

Expand the Mailbox(E:) Drive

This location displays default mailboxes and created mailboxes (local)

Note: Mailboxes only show the created GUID identification name not the actual folder name.

Back up this location and all contents to a removable USB drive prior to running the Restore.

Browse to F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagement Service\Database

Back up the user_mailboxes.xml file.

Once the restore process has been completed the mailboxes and the user_mailboxes.xml can be put back into
the correct locations.

A Reboot is necessary.

83
Capturing the Scanning Log Files and Data
It may be necessary to collect the scanning log files and associated data that goes along with scanning when
troubleshooting a scanning issue.

The files can be found in “F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService\GffDebug”.

This is also the location where you can find the PGF files for the scans.

Capturing the Spool Data From Windows Driver Printing

It may be necessary to collect Windows Driver Spool Data for troubleshooting a Windows Driver printing issue.

Follow these steps to gather this information:

1. First open the windows driver print queue and Pause the queue

a. Start/Devices and Printers/Open Desired Printer/Printer/Pause Printing

2. Send File through windows driver , when done spooling collect the spooled data

3. Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

4. Zip these two files (Rename the .zip extension to .123 so this file is not stripped out when e-mailing)
and send to the Tech assisting you. These files will be needed by development.

84
How to Enable the GFF Debug Options
1. Close Touch UI
2. On the Task Bar (Lower Right) look for the KIP Backup and Restore Utility

3. Hold your finger on the KIP button so that the Option menu opens up
4. Select “Debug Options”

85
5. Check all of the GFF Debugging Options

** Reproduce the issue. Note the time so issue is easier to find in the log files.
6. Once the issue has occurred, Plug in a USB into the USB drive of the printer
7. Select “Save Debug Logs” to the USB

8. Attach these logs to KIP Track

** Go back into the backup Utility and un-check the four Debugging Options so log files do not grow
too big

Importing accounting data into KIP Accounting Center via
command prompt.

It is possible to add accounting data manually via command prompt by the following method. As an example,
the full parameter string, for importing all three types of importable accounting data at the same time ("Users",
"Projects" and "Departments") into KIP Accounting Center connected to a KIP-7770K is as follows:

"KIP Accounting Center.exe" -A -i kip-7770k -u Administrator -p SystemK -a no -f0 "D:\Some Path\KIP

Accounting Center CSV\User\User1-3.csv" -f1 "D:\Some Path\KIP Accounting Center CSV\Project\Project1-
3.csv" -f2 "D:\Some Path\KIP Accounting Center CSV\Department\Department1-3.csv"

Explanation of each parameter:

"KIP Accounting Center.exe" ' This starts the application.

"-A" ' Activates "Silent Mode"

"-i" 'Hostname (or IP-address of printer).

"-u" ' This specifies the user account which is authorized to import accounting data.

"-p" ' This parameter specifies the user's password.

"-a" ' This parameter specifies "AppendMode/OverwriteMode" and can be set to "yes" (= append) or "no"
(=overwrite).

"-f0" ' This specifies and references the CSV file in which "Users" are saved.

"-f1" ' This specifies and references the CSV file in which "Projects" are saved.

"-f2" ' This specifies and references the CSV file in which "Departments" are saved.

Please note there are some important facts to consider when trying to make this work:

- All parameters are case sensitive. This means it will not work if you use the parameter "-U" instead of "-
u" for specifying the user account.

- "-A" is currently mandatory. This means you always have to use the silent mode. Starting the UI from
the command line is not possible.

- Before you can use a connection to a printer, you first have to add the printer using the UI. In other
words, the command line mode can only connect to printers where the UI was once successfully connected to
before.

- KIP Accounting Center's UI should not be running when trying to import CSV data via command
prompt.

94
How to change the password for an existing user with .csv file

System K GMail Mailbox Settings

These settings will work for the old IPS and SystemK. Please see Step 4 as Google has recently added
security to account access.

Step 1. You need to enable POP in the actual GMail account/console...yes even if you are going to use
SMTP and have nothing to do with POP usage.

Step 2. Then, use Port 25 with SSL as far as Touch UI/PrintNet Settings...not Port 465 as they state...

Step 3. Username and server names should be as you would expect:

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com

User Name: (your GMail address, including '@gmail.com')
Password: (your GMail password)

Step 4. Enable less secure apps on the Google account:

How to tell if a PDF is Created Color or Monochrome

At times we are unsure if an image (file) is created in B&W (only) or has some color (CMYK) within the PDF
file.

The following is one means to review various entities of a file.

NOTE:

This will become important in the near future as we wish to commence to auto detect if B&W or Color of a PDF

a) You need an Adobe Acrobat Pro version (not the free “reader”). If you feel you need this version speak
to your manager.
b) Use the - Tools / Print Production / Output Preview -

98
view this

With mouse move over / hover on any area on the image and you will see the C M Y K values of the object.

If K = 100 = it is B&W

If any CMY value = it has color value

Attached is a good sample file of this (located here C:\Images\PDF\Test file for Mono or Color\ BW or color
image.pdf)

Both pages look B&W but the first page is color and the second page B&W

99
How to manually edit .XML to set Dealer information on
touchscreen.
In secure environments it may not be possible to connect to the KIP via PrintPro.net to set the dealer
information. There are two ways of solving this:

A) Use PPN:
Even in a secured environment, a connected laptop (“cross link” cable) should give access to PPN. And if this is
not possible, preparing a USB thumb-drive with a portable browser and connecting it to the device itself should
help. Both never tested here though.

B) Edit a file:
In the file <PMD>\PrintManagementService\PrintManagementSystemSetting.dat there is a section for the dealer
info, like:
<DealerInfoSetting>
<CustomerName/>
<DealerLogoData i:nil="true"/>
<MachineLocation/>
<Name>KIP</Name>
<ServiceNumber/>
<SuppliesNumber/>
<WebsiteName/>
<WebsiteUrl i:nil="true"/>
</DealerInfoSetting>
Here one can enter information manually (while the ScpServerService is stopped!).
But be careful. This is a XML file, and must stay a valid file even after the edit. Only one wrong character will beak
the file and let the server return to defaults, overwriting this file. So, any changes should only be applied if a back-
up exists, and only people who know about valid XML file structures should even start editing the file.

How to Setup NetGard CAC Reader
We could likely use the SCAN-TO-HOME function of the NETGARD DEVICE.

1. When this is ‘Active and/or Enabled’, the SMB destination/server (for the KIP) becomes the NETGARD DEVICE
itself (you set a static user/pass for this in the management config of the NETGARD), rather than the SECURED
and/or production network. It only needs one destination.

2. Then, when a CARD is inserted into the NETGARD device, it (NETGARD DEVICE) queries LDAP/AD for the
User’s homeDirectory attribute after Kerberos and/or PKI certificate based authentication (also performed by the
NETGARD device itself) against the production Domain.

3. Once the authentication is completed, the NETGARD (makes available) it’s SMB local destination (as defined in
step 1). We then use SYSK to scan to it.

4. The NETGARD devices then MOVES the scanned document from ITSELF to the desired homeDirectory as
begotten in step 2.

5. User removes card, and SMB destination on NETGARD device becomes N/A

6. Repeat.

This video explains the the setup and use of the NetGard CAC Reader very well.

Trouble Shooting

KIP PrintPro - Fails to Install

from PrintPro.Net
Issue explained - When loading KIP PrintPro from KIP
PrintPro.net the installation fails with the following error:

Reasons:

.Net Framework is not up to date

Resolutions:

Update Microsoft .Net framework to 4.5.x. on client workstation. Use link below to download and run the
update.

Download the latest version of .Net Framework from the Microsoft Site.

123
KIP PrintPro - Fails to Open 1
Issue explained - When KIP PrintPro is opened the splash screen starts but then errors out.

Reasons:

KIP Folder is corrupt

Database is corrupt

New version of KCS software has been installed on the KIP and the KIP PrintPro does not match (Auto Update
only works if KIP PrintPro was installed from the updated machine)

Resolutions:

Delete the KIP Folder located here: Go to Explorer and type %appdata% and delete the Print Pro Folder in this
location.

Delete Database on the KIP KCS Controller (Note: This will remove all settings on the KCS System).

Update the KIP PrintPro Installation

KIP PrintPro - Fails to Open 2

Issue Explained:

KIP PrintPro fails to open.

Reason:

When the hostname of the controller was changed after a user downloaded and installed a KIP Print PRO
application, the KIP Print PRO can no longer be started.

Even deleting the ‘AppData’ on the machine where the KIP Print PRO is installed, doesn’t correct the situation
and the user needs to uninstall and reinstall the KIP Print PRO, now being deployed from the machine with the
new hostname.

When trying to start KIP Print PRO after the hostname of the machine from which it was deployed is changed,
the following message box is displayed:

When the user clicks the “Details” button, the attached log file is displayed.

Resolution:

This cannot be fixed in the software because it really is a Windows OS issue. If the KIP PrintPro was installed
via the KIP PrintPro.net using one click this is using name resolution. If the Name of the printer is changed this
no longer works.

Rename the Printer back to the original name

Uninstall the KIP PrintPro application and then reinstall.

Install the KIP PrintPro via manual installation (MSI using IP address), this will no longer do automatic updates
if the KCS controller is updated but this issue will not happen anymore.

Issue – If errors occur with KIP Accounting Center it is possible to gather logs for troubleshooting.

Resolution: To get a log file from KIP Accounting Center create a folder "C:\temp\ScpTracing" on the computer where
you run KIP Accounting Center and run KIP Accounting Center. This will write a KIP_AccountingCenter.txt file in this
location that can be used to troubleshoot the issue.

KIP Accounting Center Not Logging In

Issue explained - When KIP Accounting Center in launched and the Administrator user is entered it does not
log in.

Reasons:

• Accounting log is corrupt

• Password was changed to something else

Resolutions:

• Delete the F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService\Database\ AuthorizationDb.mdf

• Delete the F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService\Database\ AuthorizationDb.ldf

file and add this line.

Onscreen Keyboard Issues

Issue explained - When entering text into a text box, if the operator decides to not enter any text, they may hit
the red x on the keyboard instead of hitting enter. When hitting the red x the keyboard will close leaving the
text box still on the screen. The bottom half of the screen under the text box is active and buttons can be
pressed. The top half of the screen is grayed out. Touching in the grayed out area will close the text box, but
touching in the active area will not close the text box.

Reason:

• Touchscreen was closed at some point and the system was not restarted

Resolution:

After closing the user interface reboot the Controller. This will prevent the keyboard issues from occurring.

HDI Driver Debug Logging
Logging feature:

This will output data used by the driver for debug purposes.

Background: The driver has a number of logging (tracing) statement in its code, which we use for debugging
in conjunction with a tracing program that we use during development and testing. Normally, these statements
are turned off in released versions of the driver by a complier switch.

This added capability (option 3 below) will log data to a text file. Using this, you can expose the data that
the driver receives from the printer, and interactions with the user. This capability is turned on or off by a
compiler switch. It should not impact performance very much because most of the logging currently focuses
on the UI interactions, and not the plotting process. But we need to decide how widely to distribute driver
versions with this capabilty.

To investigate user's issues with the driver accepting names and passwords, install this driver on the
computer, start logging to a text file (.txt). Connect to a printer, and test entering Username, project and
department etc and their passwords. Then we can examine the file to see what is happening.

To access the logging feature:

A. Go to the Custom Properties dialog

B. Into the PIN edit box, enter (case sensitive): debugkip

C. A dialog will appear with three options:

1. The checkbox will force the XML printer data to be included when AutoCAD plots to a file. Normally the XML
data is not included, so that the plot files can be consumed by PrintPro and other software.

2. Enter any appropriate file path and name in the "Diagnostic plot header file" edit box. The driver will output
the XML and PJL data into this file. To stop this behavior, clear the edit box so that it is empty.

3. Enter any appropriate file path and name in the "Log file" edit box. The driver will output various data to this
file. To stop this behavior, clear the edit box so that it is empty.

Notes: The driver will remember these settings in the *.pc3 file, just like other driver settings. The dialog
revealed in this way is English only, i.e. is not localized.

Windows Driver Revit 2016 Crash
Revit 2016 - Picking KIP Driver from Printing Pick List Crashes Revit Application:

It was discovered that an OUTDATED Revit Plug-in called: Autodesk A360 Collaboration (which includes a
component called Autodesk Communicator, similar to an instant messenger) was faulting in a Autodesk DLL
called SmartMonkey.dll. For whatever reason, this DLL had trouble calling into specific components of SYSWPD.
Why an instant messenger plug-in would even care about printer drivers is odd to begin with, but I would imagine
that this plug-in has more function than simply chat capabilities etc. In any event an error was seen in Autodesk
debug logs, similar to the below the clued us into the trouble:

6-06-02 12:47:01,610 [13] WARN Autodesk.SmartMonkey.Service.Impl.AddonService Could not load type

'gvdpdsvc.gvdPdUiData' from assembly 'Autodesk.Bcg, Version=1.7.3.0, Culture=neutral,

Version=1.7.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d672471c03b2c408'.

The end resolve to this trouble was to update this Autodesk A360 Collaboration plug-in, found here:

Windows Driver Time Out Causes Crash
After a period of Idle time, SYSKWPD would crash either application in which one was printing from, or
explorer shell if preferences were sitting idle for a period of time.
It was discovered that the workstation(s)/server(s) in question had the ‘Isolation Mode’ SYSKWPD driver
configured in Print Management Console as either ‘Shared’ or ‘Isolated’, rather than the system default of ‘None’.

Background: Print Driver Isolation (when set to Shared or Isolated) for a specific driver, essentially sandboxes the
printer driver operations as a proxy to the spooler service. The spooler service delegates all operations for a
driver to child process (PrintIsolationHost.exe). In this way, if a driver were to crash for any reason, the spooler
service itself would not completely die and take out the rest of the printers that may be installed. Rather, only the
child proxy would fail, and subsequently any applications/drivers that were serviced by that proxy.
Print Driver Isolation is configured on a per-printer driver basis. A printer driver .inf file (like ours) has the ability to
specify whether or not a driver supports Isolation Mode. The default is ‘None’ for our driver, which essentially
means, we do not support it ‘out of the box’ so to speak.

In the case of the problematic client(s), it is clear that this value for our driver was either set this way explicitly, or
via a system Group Policy, etc. because, by default SYSKWPD installs with Isolation set as ‘None’, which is the
System Default.

The trouble occurred in this case because the child proxy has an implicit Idle timer that dismisses itself after what
appears to be around 30s. In doing so, the processes/threads delegated by SYSKWPD to the spooler, and
consequently forwarded to the child proxy, get terminated. This ‘ripped the rug’ out from underneath SYSKWPD
communication channels to the SYSK printer being serviced by the driver. The next time the UI component
needed to access the printer information, it could not do so, as the communication channel was disposed of
previously.

The immediate solution, as described above, was to set the SYSKWPD driver Isolation Mode to ‘None’ in Print
Management Console. This essentially keeps the SYSKWPD processes delegated to the spooler within the
context of the spooler (which is always running) rather than farming them out to the proxy.

the x86 and x64 drivers if available.

Most computers have the System

Default as none

8. Stop and start the Spooler – From

Component Management\Print
Spooler

133
There is another solution that can be used if IT or whomever demands that the SYSKWPD be run in Isolated
and/or Shared Mode.

Registry key can be set:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print
DWORD: PrintDriverIsolationIdleTimeout
Value (Hex): FFFFFFFF

This essentially keep the Proxy running, such that it doesn’t ‘auto dismiss’ itself.
The only downside to this is that this value applies to ALL printer driver that may have an Isolation Mode other
than ‘None’ set.

Final Note:
Difference between Isolated vs. Shared

Shared – multiple drivers that are set for isolation are loaded into a single shared process space (proxy)
that is separate from the spooler process. Although this protects the spooler process, the drivers that
are in shared mode can affect one another

Isolated – each driver is loaded into its own process space (proxy). This protects the spooler from
individual driver failures, and also protects drivers from each other

Windows Driver and RDP

Issue: When using the KIP Windows driver via a Remote Desktop Printing Session (RDP) the RDP session will
Crash

Resolution:

Turn driver isolation mode to ‘None’ on server for KIP driver via:

mmc -> add/remove snap-in -> Print Management

Add local server

Drill to the Printer Driver and set Isolation Mode to None.

Reboot server for setting to take effect.

134
Windows Driver Shows “Offline”:
Windows Driver is connecting and printing, but Properties show “Offline”. Users do not have the ability to make

isolation/

IP Address / Subnets: Ideally, Client(s) & printer should be on the same Subnet and if not, IT provisioning
needs to address/verify Client Printer connectivity regarding SNMP.

SNMP Connection: UPD port 161. Even though a driver is shared from a server, the local client side of the
driver needs direct communication with the KIP. This means that the KIP SystemK printer needs to be
accessible over the SNMP ports form the workstations. This can be confirmed by the local IT Administrator.

Note: If an IT Admin is not available. An easy way to check for this connectivity would be to install the KIP
Printer Status application at the workstation (since this application uses SNMP for its connectivity). Once
installed open KIP Printer Status, and if this loads the KIP printer and displays all information correctly then
SNMP communication has been established.

137
Windows Printer Driver shows “Offline” – Continued
If all the settings have been confirmed from the above section “Windows Driver Shows offline” and the driver is
still in an “offline” state, check the Advanced Properties of NIC on controller.
1. Close the KIP User interface
2. Open the Diagnostics folder
3. Double click on Network Connection
4. Double click on Ethernet
5. Click on Properties
6. Click on Configure
7. Click on the Advanced Tab
8. Find the Settings 'UDP Checksum Offload
(IPv4)' and 'UDP Checksum Offload (IPv6)
9. Set both to Disabled
10. Hit OK
11. Reboot Controller

One more thing that can be checked is that the

‘Print As Image feature in Acrobat’ (if that is what
they are printing from) is not being used. This can
cause HUGE files/delays in certain circumstances.
This essentially ignores all vector possibility and
makes EVERYTHING a huge RASTER image at
(300) DPI by default. Think multipage…at large
dimensions, and this could really add up! This
could account for “it can take 5 to 25 minutes (or
even longer) for the image to be transferred to the
printer.”

138
Windows Driver Fails to Install
Issue: Installing the KIP Windows Driver fails to install with errors similar to these:

Resolution:

The most common cause of this is because they HAVEN’T run windows update in forever, particularly windows
7, and are missing the UCRT runtimes.

You can find the standalone update(s) for the various OS’es here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=50410

Adobe Portfolio Files Do Not Print All Pages

Issue As Reported:
File created in Adobe as a Portfolio file has multiple files and views correctly. However when printed only one
page prints.

Resolution:
1. On the controller:

On the Controller go to the following location Pdf.ini is here F:\PrintManagementServiceCore\Gff

Here find the following lines and remove the – from the front of the text:

"-- /ignore_page_index=Y" to "/ignore_page_index=Y"

"-- /pdf_size_detector="pdf_size.ps" to " /pdf_size_detector="pdf_jane.ps"

Next:

remove all "GraphicsEngine*.zip" from the directory

F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService"

Restart the controller.

2. At each workstation:

On all installations remove the folder "GraphicsEngine" under "%appdata%" for

the installed product(s) Print Pro and/or Image Pro.

Auto Disconnect Hotfolder/SMB

Issue:

Hotfolder/SMB work for a bit and then disconnect. Reboot re-establishes connection (sometimes seen on old
servers).

Resolution:

Go into Registry

And change the auto disconnect value to 8 f’s (ffffffff). This will set the auto disconnect time to infinite and
should then allow you to scan without the disconnect.

When I duplicated this I was able to scan 7 or 8 files and then I would get the failure. After making this change I
no longer get the error and I was able to scan 50+ files.

Troubleshoot Performance
Some common issues and what to check:

If Printing from WPD is slow Check to see if the file is in the spooler or ripping in the queue on the touch panel
or in the queue in Print Pro. This can be viewed from either location.

If PDF is said to print slow determine if Driver is GL or Script, determine if Transparency is on or off. Look at
PS Preset in PrintPro to confirm settings.

If performance is bad on all files, formats check printing speed from Maintenance GUI.

If system is locked up restart the controller and see if this frees up the system controller.

If the restart does not help this could be a corrupt Database. Delete the Data Base folder from
F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService\Data Base

Note: This will clear all settings including History Queue, Accounting.

Missing/light lines (data) it is possible to use the .pgf file from

F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService\PGFCache to view the output as this file is created during
ripping and can be viewed with PrintPro.

Cannot log in to PrintPro.Net using Safari

Issue:

login to PrintPro.Net using safari the login window pops up, but you cannot type into the username or
password boxes.

Resolution:

Check to ensure that you have the recommended version of Java installed for your operating system.

Confirm the java Settings, if the Java plug in settings are set to “Ask” set the Java plugin to “Always”, and it
should then work.

KeyCode should show OK but shows Invalid

Close the User interface on the KIP Multi-Touch screen

Delete the files in F:\PrintManagementData\PrintManagementService\Printer

Note: this will delete the Auto Detected Printer. The KIP System K Printer will then auto detect the type of
printer and re-populate this folder.

Re-launce the User Interface.

Confirm the KeyCode is now reporting valid again.

KCS Touchscreen Not Launching on Re-Boot
Note: this has been resolved with the Please Wait Screen after closing the User Interface.

Issue explained - When the KIP printer is re-booted the touchscreen does not launch and has to be started
manually.

Reasons:

• If the touchscreen was closed manually so the KCS controller could be restarted it is possible the
system was shut down too quickly.

• It is necessary to allow the system enough time to write the necessary data to the system prior to
closing the GUI.

Resolutions:

• After closing the GUI watch the Diagnostics folder in the top left corner. If it has the Windows Blue
Spinning Wheel on it, it is still working. Once the Windows Blue Spinning Wheel is gone it is safe to restart the
KCS controller.

Windows Still Working Windows Ready to Restart
