INTRODUCTION:-

 World Wide Web , which is known as web , WWW or W3 is a collection of

websites stored in web servers and connected to local computers through the

internet.

 Collection of linked web pages on a web server is known as website .There is

unique Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is associated with each web

page.

 A web page is an individual HTML document to the internet has a web

browser.

 The World Wide Web is the network of pages of images , texts and

sounds on the internet which can be viewed using browser software.

 World Wide Web Day is celebrated on the 1st of August every year.
HISTORY:-
 The development of the world wide web was begun in 1989 by Tim Berners-

Lee and his colleagues at CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear

Research) , an international scientific organization based in Geneva

Switzerland .

 Means for transferring text and graphics simultaneously.

 Berners-Lee developed the essentials of the web HTTP , HTML , world wide

web Browser , a Server, and the first website while working at the organisation.

 Berners-Lee and his team developed a text-based web browser that was

released in early 1992.

 Then world wide web rapidly grow and millions people accepted and use it.

 After inventing the web, Tim Berners-Lee also founded the World Wide

Web Consortium a non-profit international consortium that aims to

standardize the web through specifications and reference software.

COMPONENTS:-

The components of www mainly two types or falls into two categories:

1. Structural Components

2. Semantic Components

Structural Components Semantic Components

1. Clients/Browser 1. HTTP
2. Servers 2. HTML
3. Caches 3. XML
4. Internet 4. URL
Structural Components:-

Structural Components are divided into Four type. These are given below.

1. Clients/Web Browser:-

 The client /Web browser is basically a program that is used to communicate

with the web server on the internet

 Each browser mainly comprises of three components and these are:

 Controller

 Interpreter

 Client protocols

 Example :- Mozilla Firefox , Internet Explorer , Opera and Google Chrome etc.

2. Server:-

 A server is a computer program or device that provides a service to another

computer program and its user clients and provides requested service to client.

Example: Web server sends requested web page.

3. Internet:-

 A global system of interconnected computers ,using a standardised internet

protocol for communication and sharing information is called the internet.

 World wide web is part of Internet.

4. Caches:-

 A web cache is a system for optimizing the world wide web.

 It is implemented both client-side and server-side

Semantic Components:-

Semantic components are also divided into four types. These are given below.
1. URL :-
 A web page is given an online address called a Uniform Resource Locator

(URL).

 A particular collection of web pages that belong to a specific URL is called a

websites, example- www.facebook.com , www.google.com etc.

 URL mainly defines the four things:

1. Protocol

2. Host computer

3. Port

4. Path

 Protocol : // Host : Post / Path

2. HTML:-

 It is a Hypertext Mark up Language.

 It is mainly used to define the contents , structure and organization of the web

page.

3. XML:- (Extensible Mark up Language)

 It mainly helps in order to define the common syntax in the semantic web.

4. HTTP:-(Hypertext Transfer protocol)

 The client sends of the user request to a www server using the Hypertext

Transfer Protocol.

 It is specifies for communication between the client and server.

How The World Wide Web Works ?:-

 The web works as per the internet basic client-server format.

 Server hosts the websites.

 Servers stores all the websites just as someone lives on rent in a house , a

website occupies a space in a server and remains stored in it.

 A client requests to the server through the web browser or site owner pays the

hosting price for the same domain.

 Then the server receive requested message and send requested data to the web

browser.

 This process is starts when you open your browser and enter a URL in the

address bar or check Google.

FEATURES:-

 It provides a system for Hypertext information.

 It is open standards and open source.

 It can be distributed and can create Multimedia document.

 Mainly makes the use of web Browser in order to provide a single

interface for many services and support many frames.

 It is User friendly, dynamic , Interactive , cross-platform .

CHARACTERISTICS:-

There are some major characteristics of the web.

 Accessible to all users and mobile compatibility.

 Well , planned information Architecture and Well-Formatted content that is

easy to scan.

 It has fast Load Times.

 It provides Browser Consistency and effective navigation.

 Good Error Handling.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORLD WIDE WEB AND INTERNET:-

 Many people use the terms Internet and World Wide Web interchangeably.

They think they are the same thing , but it is not so.

 Internet is entirely different from www . It is a world wide network of devices

like computers , laptops , tablets etc.

 It connects millions of computers together globally , forming a network in

which any computer can communicate with any other computer as long as they

are both connected to the internet.

 The world wide web , or simply web , is a way of accessing information over

the medium of the internet.

 So the web is just a portion of the internet , able it a large portion , but the two
terms are not synonymous and should not be confused.

ADVANTAGES:-

 It mainly provides all the information for free.

 Provides rapid Interactive way of communication

 It is accessible from anywhere

 It has become the Global source of media.

 It mainly facilitates the exchange of a huge volume of data.

DISADVANTAGES:-

There are some draw backs of www and these are:

 It is difficult to prioritize and filter some information.

 There is no guarantee of finding what one person is looking for.

 There occurs some danger in case of overload of information.

 There is no quality control over the available data.

CONCLUSION:-

 With the invention of world wide web , the communication between countries

gets closer and closer. Also the information spread faster and convenient for

people all over the world.
