his tool kit includes some of my favorite
things we use when designing any room.
Not only will you find the Honing Your Style
Worksheet, but you’ll also find the documents
we use such as the sample budgets for kitchens,
bathrooms and interiors. In addition, you’re also

flooring, plumbing fixtures and lighting!

BUDGETS
Every project needs a budget, here is the sample budget I use
to start all our projects. To find out more about budgeting for
your project - take my courses Kitchen Design 101, Bathroom
Design 101 or Interior Design Masterclass to learn more about
budgeting for your project.

Getting that impeccably finished designer look comes down

to making all the right small moves. The last thing you want is
to wind up with a generic looking design because you didn’t
get the details, budget or timing right. It’s astounding what
a difference the slightest embellishments can make within a
space. How do you get a designer look on any budget? Nail
the finishing touches and start with a solid plan. The key to this
is simple. You have to understand where your money goes,
so start with the biggest impact items first. When it all comes
together, details make or break a design. Keep this in mind
when creating your budget.

HONING YOUR STYLE

ST YLE
When dissecting images in your Mood Board and pulling them into your Visual
Guide use the questions in the Honing Your Style Worksheet to pull out the
style, palette and vocabulary that will guide your design selections and process.
These become the “key drivers of your style” and should be considered and
referenced consistently throughout the design process to ensure your design
stays on course! The goal is to interpret your mood board to provide a clear
path forward that you will put in your Visual Guide.

THE “VISUAL GUIDE”
A Visual Guide should do just that, guide the design. Build this out as you
find items you love for the project, room by room. Take my courses Kitchen
Design 101, Bathroom Design 101 or Interior Design Masterclass to find out
more about the steps to create a visual guide and to download our sample
Visual Guide.

Culling down your hero images from a Mood Board into the Visual Guide
will keep your design on track. You should be referencing your Visual Guide
throughout designing. This is where all the “design” movements should be for
your to incorporate into your project. Revisiting the inspiration as you choose
materials is incredibly valuable. Keep your original boards close at hand and ask
yourself “Is this the highest choice I could make?” as you bring your favorite
elements into the Visual Guide.

Ceruse Finish

Usually uses a lighter color as a final coat rubbed into the grain to
highlight the patterns in the wood. Wood that is wire brushed to
