IELTs Report Writing Task: Double Line graph showing average house
prices (20 MINUTES)
The graph describes average house prices in Sometown in 2005.
Write a report for a university tutor describing the information shown.

SAMPLE ANSWER
The line graph shows the average cost of housing in Sometown in the second
half of the year 2005. It is clear that the prices of both sold and unsold houses
had fluctuated over the period.
According to the graph, the asking price of unsold properties peaked in July at
around $335,000 dollars and then the figure decreased to its lowest level of
nearly $319,000, which was reached in September. A slight fluctuation occurred
in the following months the average prices of homes for sale increased by 10
thousand dollars in October and declined to just above 320,000 dollars in
December.
Similarly, the average price of properties sold had varied widely over the
period, except the values were lower. The months of July and August recorded
average prices of around $300,000 and $303,000 dollars respectively. Then,
prices reached the bottom at 290,000 in the next two months before rose
significantly and registered highest value in December at almost $308,000.
In conclusion, there was a significant difference between the asking and selling
price and the gap narrowed towards the end of 2005 as sellers’ expectations
moved closer to achievable prices.
IELTs Report Writing Task: Map of a town before and after
redevelopment (20 minutes)
The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and
plans for its development.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features,

and make comparisons where relevant.

SAMPLE ANSWER:
The maps illustrate the current and predicted future Islip town centre.
Overall, it is clear from the maps that some pedestrianisation is planned for
shopping and housing area, while a new road for vehicles is planned.
Focusing on the current map, the town centre is developed around a main road,
which stretches from the west to the east. There are many shops to the north and
to the south of the road. Whilst it of the countryside in the north, a big area is
occupied by housing in the south. This area is limited by a park in the east and a
school in the south-west. Both of these structures are connected to the main road
by side roads.
Moving on to the predictions, a circular road that goes around the city centre
attracts attention. This road expected to be built is a dual carriageway. The
middle part of the main road is projected to be pedestrianised. Although the
southern part of Islip is not to see big changes other than some new housing and
a in the size of the park, there are many changes planned for the northern part.
Shops in this part will be demolished and a shopping centre and a housing area
will be introduced. A bus station and a parking area are also planned to be built
to the west and the east of the shopping centre, respectively.
IELTs LETTER WRITING TASK: invite a friend to your new house
You have recently moved to a different house/apartment. Write a letter to

an English-speaking friend. In your letter:
– Explain why you have moved

– Describe the new house/apartment
– Invite him/her to pay you a visit.
SAMPLE ANSWER:
Dear XX,
I hope this letter finds you and your family all well. I am writing to tell you that
I’ve just moved to a new apartment.
As you know, my old apartment needed to be renovated, but the landlord

refused several times to allocate money for it. Moreover, it is quite small for my
family to live in as it is a one bedroom flat. Presently, I have 2 children who
need 2 more bedrooms, a study room, and a wider area to play in.
My new apartment consists of 3 bedrooms, a comfortable living room, and a

wonderful terrace, where my children can play safely. I have a suitable study
room, where I can work in a quiet environment. All the interior, the paint on the
walls and ceramic floors are in a marvellous condition, so no more maintenance
is needed.
It would be a great idea with your family next weekend to see it. Let’s spend
some exciting moments together and enjoy watching new movies in the living
room. Please, let me know at the earliest opportunity.
