THE PRODROMAL STAGE

Occurs after the incubation period. During this

phase, the pathogen continues to multiply, and
the host begins to experience general signs and
symptoms of illness caused from activation of
the nonspecific innate immunity,
such as not feeling well malaise- difficult to
identify and feeling of discomfort, low-grade
fever, pain, swelling, or inflammation.

Fever is the sign of Infection - You get a fever

because your body is
trying to kill the virus or bacteria that caused
the infection.

THE ILLNESS STAGE

This stage includes the time when a person

shows apparent symptoms of an infectious
disease. The symptoms of infection vary
widely depending on the underlying cause.
Activity: Pick and Put

Instruction:
Now that you are read and understood the
definitions and examples of stages of infection.

3. When you have an infection, how do Answer: Knowing the incubation period
you treat it? of an infectious disease the time from
exposure to the causative agent to when
symptoms first appear can provide
important information during an
outbreak, including when infected
individuals will be symptomatic and most
likely to spread the disease.

Answer: Doctors can treat a bacterial

infection with antibiotics. A person must
complete the course of antibiotics to treat
the infection fully and prevent the
bacteria from becoming resistant to the
drug. In addition to cleaning, some
wounds may require further treatment.

Note: Randomly call a learner to complete any
