Directions: Read and analyze the statements carefully. Write T if the statement is correct and write F otherwise. Write your answer on a clean sheet of paper.

1. Claims are central argumentation or thesis statement of the writer.


2. Claims of facts are statements that is either approved or disproved.
3. Claims of value asserts that something has to be done as a solution to a particular problem.
4. Claims of policy are statements that is judged whether it is good or bad.
5. In claiming an idea, the author should provide explanation, details, and evidences.

b. identify tips in writing and reading book/article review;
c. explain the steps in writing article review and
d. review an article.

The students will be able to apply the features and requirements of composing article review in professional and academic writing. The students are able to respond to the text through writing an article
review

In this lesson,
1. Students will define academic and book\article review.
2. Students will analyze an article and collaborate in creating a book/article review
3. Students will review an article.

Academic writing is a formal style of writing used in universities and scholarly publications. You’ll encounter it in journal articles and books on academic

What is Academic Writing?
What is article review? ARTICLE REVIEW

Article review is a specialized form of academic writing in which a reviewer evaluates the contribution to knowledge of scholar works such as
academic books and journal article.

In writing a book review or article critique, there are things that you have to consider:

Before Reading
1. Title
a. What does it suggest
b. What is your knowledge about the title
2. Preface or introduction
a. Can you identify any limitations
b. Are there parts that the author intentionally or unintentionally ignored
3. Table of contents
a. How are the ideas organized
b. What logical order does it follow

Chunk 2 During Reading


How to review an article? 1. What is the genre
2. Author’s style – formal/informal
3. Footnotes
4. Passages/quotes you can cite
5. Main idea
6. Concepts defined
7. Agree/disagree with the idea
8. Information accuracy
9. What is the point of view used

Things to consider in writing article review:


1. Include the author, place, publisher, publication date, edition, and pages.
2. Provide a good opening statement. Is this the best article or book? Why or why not?
3. Include information about the author – reputation, qualifications, etc.
4. Consider the target reader – include information based on the needs of the reader.
5. Provide a good conclusion.
