Hence, self-evaluation is greatly needed nowadays, especially during this time of
pandemic. You need to assess what you have done so far in terms of managing the kind of
life you have now and how your strengths and weaknesses helped in facing the challenges
brought about by the difficult situation.

Processing Questions:
1. How did you find this activity?
2. How would this help you to attain your personal goal ?
3. What could be the possible barriers in the achieving your personal goals?
Keep in Mind
You are now in Grade 12 which is the last level in basic education. Hence, it would be
important that you are aware on your adjustments as a teenager in the different developmental
aspects of personality. How do you think you’re dealing with it?
A group of researchers led by Amanda Eller states that a balanced person might
develop an active role by interpreting the expectations of the social actors from the home and
work domains and from other institution. It is where he/she studies and adopts boundaries
with degrees of permeability that enable a state of greater balance between the said domains.
When it comes to life, happiness, and well-being, there isn’t one single area of life that we
need to focus on. Instead, life is multi-dimensional and dynamic.
The following dimensions will guide you on the areas to focus and improve.
1. Physical. Your adolescence period is a good time for you to take more responsibility
for your physical health. You can learn to make healthy food choices, be active, and
engage in your own healthcare. It is highly recommended that you have at least 60
minutes of physical activity each day. Support from family and friends will help
increase your physical activity as adolescent. In addition, learning the healthy habits
like drinking enough water and eating enough fruits and vegetables, is important to
maintain your good nutrition. Valuing your physical health by taking care of your body
through the following: exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, maintain a healthy weight,
get enough sleep, keep up with vaccinations, brush and floss your teeth, and avoid
listening to loud music.
2. Mental. It is important for you to maintain good mental health habits, including coping,
resilience, and good judgment among your age group to achieve overall wellbeing. It
sets the stage for positive mental health in adulthood. Mood swings, for example, are
common during adolescence. Some adolescents might experience a serious mental
health adjustment, such as depression and/or anxiety disorders, at some point in life.
That is why for a healthy mental aspect, you as an adolescent must remember that
talking about your feelings with a trusted person can help. He/she could be a member
of your family or a close friend. Definitely he/she can support you in maintaining a
sound mind and positive outlook in every challenge as an adolescent.
4. Social. You as an adolescent must continue to refine how you relate with others.
Questions like “Who am I?” and “Who do I want to be?” may direct you to have a
deeper understanding of yourself. You may adopt the values and roles that your
parents expect from you and later on develop your own identity that might be different
from your parents but similar with your peer group. This is common as peer
relationships can become a central focus in your life. It is recommended that you build
relationship with your peers through social interrelated activities. You may establish
healthy relationship with them through freedom to be yourself, mutual respect of both
people in the partnership, support, privacy, boundaries and communication.
5. Spiritual. Religion has a strong influence to our country even up to now. The
teenagers who are guided and nurtured by a clear belief system and spiritual activities
are much less likely to go off the rails during adolescence. The experiences and
observations you have in your spiritual aspect could continuously refine your belief
system. It is better to be surrounded by adults who can be your good role model and
a source of inspiration to improve your life direction than to be with people who are
very prone to be off-track in life.
A Personal Development Plan is an action plan for self-development within the context
of education, relationships, career, or for self-improvement. It provides an awareness and
reflection that will help you set and reach personal goals and improve on various aspects of
your life across various life stages.
You Can Do It

Learning Objectives
Introduction
In this module, you will have a better understanding about your role in promoting
respect for individual differences. This aims to give you an opportunity to view other’s
perspectives and feelings. Accepting attitude and openness to other’s unique characteristics
will help you to have healthy relationships.
Go on board and celebrate everyone’s individuality!
Let’s Try This
Suggested Time Allotment: 20 Minutes
Observation of Other’s Uniqueness
1. Copy the following table on a clean sheet of paper.
2. Think of three (3) different persons who are similar in a certain aspect that
you would like to observe for this activity. Example: 3 famous personalities
(singers, dancers, inventors, politicians, artists).
3. Write their names and describe them using the options in each column. Use
your best judgment on them.
4. Write your answers to the processing questions after.
Description

Name:
Name:
Name:
Processing Questions:
1. Were you able to fill out all related descriptions for each person? Which of the
descriptions is the most observable?
2. What is the most difficult description to observe? Explain.
3. What can you say about the differences that you observed among these three
persons?
Processing Questions:
1. What do you notice with your answers?
2. Which of the situations is the most difficult to handle or manage? Explain.
3. What type of support or help is the easiest to provide? Explain.
4. What have you realized after doing this activity?
Keep in Mind
a. Accept that we are all different. Don’t assume that your preferences would
always be the same as those of your peers or friends. Of course there are similarities
among you but all have different stories to tell that affect the way you see things. You
may have different beliefs, culture, values, and even interest, and you cannot force
anybody to be exactly the same as you. Remember, even twins have differences.
b. Use your similarities with other people to strike a harmonious relationship
with them. While you acknowledge that people are different from another, there are
also commonalities which you may take advantage to establish positive relationship
with them. At this point in time, you might have found the right people who can be
your good friends, who can inspire you to strive harder, and who can be your role
model.
c. Be open-minded with others. You can always learn from the experiences of your
friends and peers and they can also do the same with you. The manner they
overcome life challenges and how they impact their living could be your insights to
improve your lifestyle or even the way you see things around you. You can also learn
from their culture, traditions and values.
d. Try to consider where others are coming from. Your family set-up may be
different from what your friends have. People might have grown up in a province or
in a highly urbanized city. There are those who have a complete set of parents and
those that have a single parent or no parents at all. Additionally, people have
different childhood experiences which greatly affect their attitude and personality
now. There are also those who struggle financially and those who are well off. Keep
in mind that people are coming from different backgrounds and they act, decide and
make choices based on those things.
e. If your differences with others are getting in the way, try to have a common
ground. You cannot impose your beliefs, values and culture to others, the same way
that they cannot do that to you. However, instead of trying to prove who’s better and who’s
not, you may want to find an area where you can both improve yourself while learning from
each other. There are differences that are worthy to talk and celebrate, and there are those
that we just accept unconditionally just like in the second item.
There’s no point in comparing people as each of us have our own potentials and
abilities.
Always remember that you co-exist with others. There are things that you cannot control like
the people around you but you can always manage the way you deal with them. The choice
is always with you, either you make the most out of those individual differences and have a
happy life or you make that as your limitations.
Week 3

1. How do you compare your answers in each column?
2. Given the current situation, how do you intend to practice them?
3. What made you practice such ways to respect individual differences and care
for others?
What I have Learned

formulated your personal policies or guidelines to uphold acceptance and respect of people’s
differences at all times.
In this module, you are up to another insightful learning episode. You will delve into
the decision-making process. Remember that you are free to choose a course of action from
among various alternatives. However, your choice has consequences; and you are
responsible for your own actions. You will encounter some factors that may affect your sound
decision-making like past experiences; biases; current situation or setup, and individual
differences.

Suggested Time Allotment: 20 minutes
Read the story of Anton, a Senior High School graduate, then answer the processing
questions on a separate sheet of paper.
Anton’s Indecisiveness
Processing Questions:
1. What are the factors that you considered in answering?
2. Do your experiences at this time of pandemic change the way you decide on
things? In what way?
Keep in Mind
Suggested Time Allotment: 25 minutes
We make countless choices every day, from the very moment we opened our eyes in
the morning up to the time we fall back to our beds, and our choices are neither right nor
wrong.
According to Steven J. Heine, author of the book Cultural Psychology, choice is
something that is surely valued everywhere; however, the extent to which people value
choices and exercise it is influenced by the context we are in. More choices are available to
individuals acting alone than to those who are part of interdependent group of people;
however, the limits on their choices are likely not experienced as aversive when individuals
share the same goals as their group.
For example, you choose not to attend classes because your peers invited you to join
them outside the school during class hour although you are aware of your responsibility in
the school. This phenomenon is be explained by Rollo May, an
American Psychologist, who articulated that human beings are inseparable from their
environment, a simultaneous relationship exists, and involving three models such as
the following: (1) the physical and physiological; (2) the social environment of the
people; and (3) human being’s relationship to their inner nature.
Ludwig Binswanger, an existential psychologist, explained that humans have
complete freedom of choice or free will and are completely responsible for their own
existence. There was always the possibility of becoming something new or better because
existence changes.
How can you correct mistakes from the past? Change your mind set. Change is
always a choice. You need to realize that you can control your own behavior and need to
make better choices. Things don’t just happen. You can take much more effective control of
your life through planning.
What are the strategies to promote change and foresee the possible wrong decisions
and future actions? According to American psychologist Gerald Corey, first thing is to
explore what your wants, needs and perceptions are. Try to recognize, define, and refine
how you wish to meet your needs. Second, focus on what you are doing at present and think
of your future direction. Take action by changing what you are doing and thinking. Third,
make a self-evaluation. It is your responsibility to evaluate your own behavior. Lastly,
formulate your action plan. Creating and carrying out your plans enable you to gain more
effective control over your life. If your plan does not work, devise a different plan. Your
commitment is essential to carry out your plans.
1. Environment. The people around us including the current setup affect the
way we see things. They can influence our beliefs and perception on the
consequences of our actions. There are times that we intend to compare
how they face a certain problem with the way we face it ourselves; this is
something that we need to get away from as we are all different including
the situations we are in.
2. Experiences. Our past encounter with people and the results of our
decisions before mold how we act and decide today. For instance, if you
have proven that a certain person should not be trusted with your secrets,
then you won’t entrust him/her the confidential matters that you have. The
same thing if you have a tested action to be effective like your study habits
which led you to get high grades, then, there is a great possibility to replicate
such practice. Our experiences whether good or bad shape the way we
behave nowadays.
3. Personal characteristics. We should also take into account the function of
our culture, attitude, personality, beliefs, abilities, gender, health condition
and others in terms of our way of making a decision. You have to recognize
that there are enabling and limiting aspects of your personal characteristics.
For instance, in your culture, there may be a stigma on the role of man or
woman. It is now up to you whether you want to live up to that expectation
or not. You may want to look into what science tells about healthy and
unhealthy practices.
Your decisions will define the kind of choices you are taking. At the end of the day,
you will be the one to face whatever consequences these decisions bring. Hence,
your decision-making process is very important. If you are in doubt or confused about
your choices, you may want to go to someone who is well trained to guide and
facilitate your decision-making process like a Registered Guidance Counselor (RGC).
If an RGC is not available in your school, you may consider getting the insights of your
trusted teacher, parents or adults.
