A. Preparation of Suspension Mixture


1. Prepare a suspension mixture whose components you can separate by hands. Take a picture of that mixture
and paste the picture below
2. Separate the components of the mixture. Take a picture of the mixture, showing the components as
separated, then paste picture below.
3. What property of the components did you use as the basis for their separation?

B. Determining the Presence of Colloidal Particles in Different Liquid Samples


1. Secure a laser or flashlight for this particular activity.
2. Get half a glass of 5 different liquid samples that are available at home or in a store (ex. Water from the
faucet, mineral water, diluted vinegar, diluted patis or fish sauce, urine).
3. Separately pour each in a clean empty drinking glass with smooth surface. (You may use clean transparent
ice plastic if the particular glass is not available)
4. Perform tyndall effect test to each of the sample. Place the head of the laser/ flashlight as close as possible
to the wall of the glass and switch it on. If you can see the path of the light beam passing through the
sample, then it’s positive to tyndall effect test, indicating the presence of colloidal particles in the sample.
5. Take a picture of the result for each sample, and paste them below

C. Preparing unsaturated, saturated and supersaturated solution


1. Prepare an unsaturated saline solution by dissolving a pinch of table salt in water. Take a picture of it and
paste the picture below
2. Dissolve more table salt to the solution while stirring it, until the salt cannot be dissolved anymore no matter
how you stir the solution. At this point, the solution has already reached its saturation point, and expect
undissolved table salt at the bottom of the container. Take a picture of it as example of saturated solution,
then paste the picture below
3. Transfer the saturated solution in a kettle. Then heat it. Picture it when all of the salts are dissolved, as an
example of supersaturated solution, then paste the picture below.
4. Finally, let the temperature of the supersaturated solution cool down. Observe what will happen to it as it
cools.
