Introduction of the Course

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) curriculum consists of four years of

general education, major, and professional nursing courses. Clinical classes are
integrated into the curriculum from the first to the fourth year, with a focus on nursing
principles and related learning experiences (RLEs). INP, or Intensive Nursing
Practicum, is taken during the fourth year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing
program. Intensive Nursing Practicum enhances nursing competencies to assure
achievement of the BSN program outcomes required of an entry-level nurse to assist
individuals, families, groups, and communities in dealing with present and potential
health concerns. It also allows student nurses to develop their leadership abilities in
hospital, school, and community settings. As a result, student nurses will be able to
gain confidence in engaging with people from various institutions, as well as assign
tasks and responsibilities to each and every member of the group.

C. Hospital Management

C.1 Planning

A. Management Planning

Planning is described as determining a course of action in advance in order to

achieve a desired goal. It is mostly conceptual, but the results are clear. Planning is
always centered on and focused on the organization's vision, mission, philosophy,
and clearly defined objectives.

Management planning is the process of identifying an organization's goals and

developing a realistic, comprehensive action plan to achieve those goals. A
management plan, like a business plan, considers both short- and long-term
organizational strategies. The basic steps in the management planning process
include developing a road map that outlines each activity that the organization must
do in order to fulfill its ultimate goals.

Strategic Planning (Hospital Plans)

Strategic planning is a long-range plan that involves risk taking decision. The top
management is responsible for long-term planning. It takes much longer time to
achieve goals, including the planning process and strategy for implementation. It
usually entails allocating resources, time, and money, as well as managing the
performance or improving the hospital's health care services.

Strategic planning is done by the medical director and hospital administrator,

_____________ and ____________. With this type of planning, the outlook becomes
more forward-looking, resources are allocated in a systematic manner, and quick
changes are well accommodated. Long-term planning is ideal for projects that will
take 3-5 years to complete.

Due to data privacy and the availability of the hospital administrator and medical
director, no specific data were gathered in long-term plans. As _______________
stated, the medical director and hospital administrator were in charge of developing
long-term plans for the facility.

Short range planning (Nursing Service Plans)

In nursing service, ________________ together with the chief nurse,

_______________ does the short-range plan for the nurses. Their plans involve the
development of nurses, what to do, how to do and who is to do it. Their plans focus
on providing activities that were based from the previous plans and its outcomes
whereby change can be done for the improvements of the staff nurses and their
quality services.

Budgetary Plan

A budgetary plan is essentially a plan for future actions that includes both operational
and financial or monetary aspects. It is critical to plan the budget since it encourages
advanced thinking. It anticipates and prepares for future opportunities or issues.
Budgeting in business refers to the deliberate distribution of all available finances and
resources to wealthy departments within an organization. Budgeting enables
managers to rein in overspending in less productive areas while allocating additional
funds to areas that produce better results.

Effective budgeting involves both flexibility and rigidity. Certain costs must be
regulated in order to reduce exploitation and limit expenditures. The management of
GMCH assures strict privacy and security of budget information. During interviews
with different hospital personnel, they refused to discuss hospital budgets and
refused to answer questions concerning them. Because GMCH is a private
organization, the administration ensures the confidentiality of the data.

Due to the confidentiality and protected acts of management in budgeting, there is no

gathered data regarding the particular allocation of finances to hospital resources.
However, a hospital institution like GMCH requires adequate funding to function
properly. One of the major allocations of cash should be compromised by facilities,
equipment, and supplies because the hospital will not function if facilities are
insufficient, equipment is broken, and supplies are lacking. Of course, funds should
be set aside for the upkeep of the aforementioned resources.

Budget allotments for manpower should be the largest because hospital personnel
and employees will be the ones needed to provide and provide services to patients,
being the primary resource to run a hospital facility. Budgeting is more than just
allocating money resources. Another part of budgeting that demands careful
consideration is time management. The effective allocation of man hours to specific
activities will be just as vital as financial budgeting because time is something we can
never get back, making good use of it is as important as making good use of money.

B. Nursing Service Management Plan

Nursing service in Gentri Medical Center and Hospital intended to establish,

maintain, and use standards of safe and ethical nursing practices, to support hospital
progress in collaboration with clients, their families, community - based and
government organizations and agencies, and to establish a systematic staffing
pattern that arises availability of nursing personnel who can provide quality and safe
nursing care to patients in accordance with skill level.

According to one of the nursing supervisors, ______________________, they have

plans for the improvement of their nurses by initiating continuing-education, training
and seminars. Continuing professional education is vital because it validates a
person's knowledge and skills. Experts in the medical, legal, and financial areas must
always be updated on new standards, as well as reassuring patients, clients, and
licensing agencies that professionals are qualified to manage tasks that influence
people's lives.
Considering health care is a constantly changing field with new developments.
Continuing education helps nurses prepare for these developments. They should be
given further training in order to recognize and treat people with possible cases. For
nurses who desire to work as an advanced or specialty nurse, continuing education
is also required.
