wisdom, they should ask you and you will give
liberally without reservation. I pray today that
you grant us wisdom, knowledge and
understanding.

Increase our capacity, Lord, as we learn. Give

Class Rules

Okay class, now I am going to remind you on

our class rules.

First, wear proper dress. Wear your uniforms if

possible. Do not wear sleeveless, revealing
and offensive shirts.
Second, choose your study place. You are
about to work, collaborate, and learn. Your
environment should be set up for that. Find a
location that is free from any distraction.
Third is be on time. Join 5 minutes before the
meeting
Fourth, come prepared. Do not enter in a battle
without a sword.
Fifth, mute your microphone to keep the audio
channel free of clutter and available to the
speaker. Keep your camera turned on so your
classmates and I can read your visual cues.
Avoid distracting backgrounds.
Sixth, Pay attention and participate.

Seventh. Be Respectful. Use the ‘raise hand’

function or just say “permission to speak” when
you want to speak. Listen to your teacher and
classmates and only use the chat function
when the teacher asks you to do so or if there
is an issue with your connection.
And lastly, enjoy learning.

Are we clear about our rules? Yes, ma’am.

Well, that is great!

question which corresponds to the number that
I have rolled. Understand?

Since, _________ is the first one who typed

the activity earlier he/she is the first one to
answer. Is that okay with you,__________? Yes, Ma’am.
Okay, thank you. And our second player would
be ________.

D-ICE BREAKER!

Okay,_________. Are you ready?

Yes, ma’am.
Okay, I am going to roll the virtual die.

Before we proceed to our discussion, I
prepared another activity for you. I know that
you are already familiar with this activity. It is a
game called crossword puzzle. Do I need to
explain how to play this game? Yes, ma’am.

Okay so there are empty boxes that we are

going to fill. There is a clue that will lead us to
come up with the answer. Do you class get it? Yes, Ma’am.

Okay! Let us start? Are you ready? Before

answering read aloud the given clue. Yes, Ma’am. We are Ready!

Who wants to answer the first one?

Yes, _______________. Here is the clue.

(It describes where and when the story takes
place.) The answer is setting, ma’am.
Alright! That is correct. Very Good. Setting is
where the story takes place. Now, I want you to
choose someone to answer the next question. I will choose _________.

Okay,_________. Here is the clue for the

second number.

number.
Okay,_________. Here is the clue for the
fourth number.
(It is a technique writers use to make The answer is characterization,

Awesome! Characterization is a technique that

is used by the writers to make the characters of
the story come to life. Okay, who will answer
the last one? Choose a friend, _________. I will choose_________.

Okay,_________. Here is the clue for the last

number.
(It is the story’s underlying message.) The answer is theme, ma’am.

Very Good! Thank you for taking part with our

activity.

 Analysis

Okay class how do you find the activity? (The student’s answers may vary.)

Did you enjoy it? Yes, ma’am.

Nice to hear that. Based on the activity, what I think it is all about the elements
do you think is our lesson for today? of the story.

Excellent! ! Since elementary, you have been

learning about fiction and non-fiction, and the
elements of a story. You have been reading
plenty of stories too. From fables, to parables,
epics, newspapers, encyclopedias,
atlases, short stories to novels.
Well, now is the time to remember them for you
will be dealing with them once again. Let us
focus on the major elements of a story this
time. Don’t worry, I simplified things for you to
understand better.

Our topic for today is appraising the unity of

plot, setting and characterization in a material
viewed to achieve the writer’s purpose.

To start our discussion, let me present the

objectives of our lesson.

At the end of the lesson, the students are

expected to:
1. Recall the major elements of a story;
2. Describe the setting of the story;
3. Arrange the plot of the story;
4. Understand the difference between direct
and indirect characterization

Class, before we proceed to our discussion I

have here a story of an aspiring writer named
Sophia. Her mentor asked her to write a story.
She already have an idea but she cannot
arrange its plot. Sophia is a friend of yours and
she asked you for help. Would you like to help Yes, ma’am.
her?

Okay. It is nice to hear that you are willing to

help a friend. Here is what you are going to do.
I am going to show you the parts of the story
that needs to be arranged. You are going to
arrange first the jumbled letters placed on the
top of each part and arrange them in their
correct sequence. Did you get it? Yes Ma’am.

Here are the parts of the story that Sophia

created. On the top part, you can see a
jumbled word. We are going to arrange those
jumbled letter in order for us to come up with
the correct sequence of the events of the story.
Do you understand? Yes, ma’am.

Oh no! There seems to be a problem. We

cannot read the parts because it is locked.
Only the jumbled letter is readable. Oh! I
remember. In order to unlock it we must
complete a task.

As you can see, there is a key here. We can

only get this key after we finish the task entitled
“Arrange me! Arrange me!Arrange me!”.
Class are you ready to unlock those padlocks? Yes, ma’am. We are ready!

For your first jumbled letter, who wants to

answer?
Yes,_______ .

TENEOUNEDM The answer is denouement,

ma’am.
Okay let us see if your answer is correct.
Marvelous! It is denouement. Okay, next.
The answer is exposition, ma’am.
ISEPXOTINO
Is it exposition? Very good! It is exposition.
Okay next jumbled letter.

ALLFIGN TAICON
Are you sure that it is falling action? The answer is falling action,
ma’am.
You’re answer is correct! Very good. Okay lets
move to the next one. Yes, ma’am.

XMCLIA
The answer is climax, ma’am.
Climax? Is it climax? Let us see. Fantastic! The
answer is climax.
Okay, for the last word. Who would like to
answer? Yes,_______.

SIRIGN TIACON
Okay, very good! The answer is rising action. The answer is rising action, ma’am.

Thank you for participating. But the task is not

over. We have another “Arrange Me” activity.
So, after we arranged or decipher the jumbled The plot of the story, ma’am.
letters we have denouement, exposition,falling
action, climax, and rising action. So from these
words what do you think are these?
Anyone from the class?
Yes, ma’am.
Okay very good. The plot of the story.
Plot is the sequence of events that make up a Yes, ma’am.
story. Do you understand?
Again, what is plot? Plot is the sequence of events that
make up a story.
Okay, very good. Now, going back to our
activity Sophia still needs our help because
after we arrange the jumbled letters the parts
are still not in its correct placements. When we
say sequence, it means there is a specific Yes, ma’am.
arrangement, right?

In this activity, we are going to arrange the plot

of the story. I just need one student to help
Sophia arrange the plot of the story. Any (A student will volunteer.)
volunteer?

Okay, what part comes first? Exposition,ma’am.

The second part? Rising Action
The third? Climax
Okay, next? Falling Action
The last part? Denouement
Okay, thank you. Let us check if your answers
are correct. Okay, very good! Your answers are
correct! Now we finally unlocked the parts of
the story. Would you please read the
story, .
Thank you!

Class, remember that the exposition is the

beginning of the story, this is where the
settings and main characters are introduced.
In the rising action, this is where the primary
conflict is introduced (if it hasn’t been already)
and is built upon to create tension both within
the story and the reader, who should ideally be
feeling more and more drawn to the text. The
conflict may affect one character or multiple
characters.
The climax is the biggest plot point, which puts
our characters in a situation wherein a choice
must be made that will affect the rest of the
story. It is the peak of the story, the turning
point of the story.
The falling action is when the tension has been
released and the story begins to wind down.
We start to see the results of the climax and
the main characters’ actions.
And the Denouement is where conflict from
the climax has been resolve. It is the final
part of the story.
Do you understand? Yes ma’am.

If that is so, let us continue the story of Sophia.

After the arrangement of the plot of the story
she passed it to the mentor. But the mentor
asked her if that is the setting of the story that
she wants the reader to imagine. And she
answered “No”.
Now, take a look at the picture. This is the
picture that Sophia wants the readers to see in
her story. Can you help her write a description
of this picture so the reader can imagine what
Sophia wants them to see in the story? Yes Ma’am.

What element of the story is being emphasized The setting.

in the picture?

Who would like give a description on this

picture?

Yes,_________. (The student’s answer may vary.)

Good job! Since you have described it, I also

have two descriptions in the same photo. My
first description is, “The castle was beside the
water.” and the second one is, “ The waves
crashed loudly against the shoreline. The fog
lifted slightly and the medieval castle came into
view. It was a beautiful site! The fog brushed
my face and I could smell the smoke from the
fire in the distance and taste the sea salt on my
lips.”

From the given description, and as a reader,

which description is better? And why?

Yes, _________. For me, the second one is better

because it clearly describes the
setting and as a reader I can easily
imagine it.

Okay, you think the second one is better than

the other one. The second description is a very
detailed description. Most writers are
describing the setting of the story this way so
the readers will imagine the same scene as the
writer imagines it. Did you get it class? Yes, ma’am.

For the first description. I directly describes the

setting without many details just the castle was
beside the water. Do you think the reader will
imagine a very detailed setting that the writer
wants the readers to see? No, ma’am.

Okay, class. Do you understand how the writer

writes a description for a setting of the story in
a manner that it achieves the writer’s purpose?
Yes , ma’am.
Do you have any question?
None, ma’am.
Okay, now that we know how the writer
describe the setting. Sophia needs a character
for her story. Now I prepared another activity
entitled, “Do You Know Me? Then, Describe
Me. “
Do You Know Me? Then, Describe Me.

In each box there is a picture of a well known

character from both foreign and local movies.
Let us see if can recognize them. And you are
going to tell from what movie is that character
and describe the chosen character. It is up to
you how you are going to describe them. Is that
clear? Yes, ma’am.

https://wordwall.net/resource/33495187/for-
demo-teaching-in-tftl

Okay. Let us start. Who will be our first player?

(The student will volunteer.)
Okay. What a brave boy/girl. Now, choose a
number.

Okay. Now who is he/she? From what movie?

Describe him/her. (The student’s answer may vary.)
Thank you!
Who wants to be the next player?
Okay. Choose then introduce your chosen (The student’s answer may vary.)
character to us.
Who wants to reveal the next character?
Yes,________. (The student’s answer may vary.)
Who wants to reveal the next character?
Yes,________. (The student’s answer may vary.)
Who wants to reveal the last character?
Yes,________. (The student’s answer may vary.)

Now that we revealed all the characters in the

box and you have describe them who do you
think is the character that fit to the story of
Sophia? Ariel, ma’am.

Alright, Ariel can be the character in the story

of Sophia. We completed the tasks! Sophia can
now confidently pass the story to her manager.

Okay, so much for that. Now let us talk about

how the writer makes the characters come to
life. What do you call that again? Characterization, ma’am.

Okay. Very good. Now let us define

characterization. Would you please
read,_________?
It is how the writer introduces the personality of
the character. It is the description of a
character’s physical traits (how a character
looks), point of view, personality, private
thoughts, and actions.
Understand? Yes, ma’am.

Nice to hear that. So there are two types of

characterization. The Direct and Indirect
Characterization.

I have examples for you to easily understand it.

What is the difference between Direct and

indirect characterization?
(Student’s answer may vary.)
Indirect characterization describes a character
through their thoughts, actions, speech, and
dialogue while the direct characterization
describes the character through their physical
description, line of work, or passions.

 Abstraction

Okay, class. For me to know if you understand

the lesson, I am going to ask you questions. (These are the possible answers
but the students’ answers may
vary)
1. What is setting?
1. Setting is where the story takes
2. How do authors introduce the setting of the place.
story? 2. The author introduces the setting
of the story in a detailed way so the
readers can see or imagine what
