1. OBJECTIVE
This method statement covers the requirements for Electrical installation at the project site Zubair
Mishrif DGS Electrical integration. It describes installation techniques and different requirements to
be adhered during the course of installation.
2. PURPOSE
This method statement defines the procedure to ensure that Electrical installations are to be
performed safety, efficiently and in accordance with good working practices, as per project
Standards & Specifications.
3. SCOPE
The scope of the work includes transportation and electrical installation at the project site Zubair
Mishrif DGS Electrical integration. This Works Method details the followings,

6. RESPONSIBILITY
Site Manager
Site Manager shall provide his site teams with appropriate resources to ensure that works are
done in accordance with the project quality and HSE requirements and shall be responsible for
the overall site work management.
Construction Manager
Defines the required working/construction methodology in written work
procedures/MOS and implements such documents to ensure that each single activity
will be executed under controlled conditions to meet the specification requirements.
Shall cooperate with the project QA/QC Manager, HSE Manager and Security Manager.
Get approved documentation before performing any work at site and he is in charge.
Ensure the correct application.
Directly reports to Site Project Manager.
Electrical Supervisor
Electrical Supervisor shall be directly involved in planning and execution of all
installations works at site.
Prior to the start of the work, he shall prepare Safety Action Plan that must be
implemented and observed during installations activities.
He shall ensure that electrical foremen comply with the requirements of this procedure
and other relevant project specification, drawings, and other reference code and
standard applied on the project site.
SECURITY Manager:
Application of the Security Plan requirements at site.
Directly reports to Site Project Manager.
HSE Manager:
Ensure the compliance with the HSE System requirements.
Develop safety culture.
Monitor and control each site activity and related risk associated.
Directly reports to Site Project Manager.
QA/QC Manager:
Responsible to adhere to the Quality System requirements.
Directly reports to Site Project Manager.
Lifting Supervisor:
A qualified and certified person in charge to manage all the lifting operations to be
carried out at site.
Worker:
Qualified and trained person assigned to a specific task.
He has to perform his task in line with the related PTW without any deviation.
He has to act in respect of HSE System requirements.

8.1. General
Before start of work, the following shall be ensured:
Machinery & tool are suitable for use as well as availability of all auxiliary/accessory
materials necessary for the correct and good practice installation of the electrical main
items.
Availability of suitable quantity of material for the works.
Use only approved shop drawings & Material.
MEP coordinated shop drawing is available and approved. Insure of availability of all the
project documentation validated/approved for installation (EX-CO) and material
certification, if any.
Area clearance obtained from other discipline/ Main contractor.
Full safety conditions of the zone and around the area where the electrical materials and\or
electrical main items will be installed.
No pending points open in the FAT final report for electrical material or electrical main items
ready to be installed.
The installation of all equipment shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
8.2. Materials
All materials shall comply with the specifications regarding quality, dimensions, strength, etc.
Samples will be submitted for the approval of the Engineer. Making sure all material as per client
approval before any installation.
8.3. Drawings
Prepare the workshop drawings showing a complete installation along with section details &
obtain client approval.
Prepare the co-ordination Drawings with other MEP works.
Sub Station room trench layout and exact location of sleeves shall be obtained from civil
team.
9. INSTALLATION
9.1. Sleeves
In the beginning of each project and before casting the retaining wall, make sure that
already fixed sleeves for high voltage cables, LV power cables or for earthling system.
The size, number and heights of the sleeves as per approved drawings.
Distribution board interiors will not be installed in cabinets until all conduits connections to
the cabinet have been completed.
Trim for flush mounted cabinets will be installed in plaster frame, flushed with furnished
wall. Trim will be installed plumb and square to finish painting.
All DBs wall mounting and floor mounted arrangement will be in accordance with approved
shop drawings and the approved material submittal.
Ensure that painting of the wall is completed prior to marking and mounting of DB.
Confirm label/marking to ensure that is the correct panel and check the position according
to the approved shop drawings.
Mark the fixing position of the DB's support as per approved shop drawing and coordinate
with other equipment and services.
After marking are then drilled according to the selected sizes of anchor bolts to appropriate
depth as per approved shop drawing.
Locknuts on the anchor bolts will ensure a permanent fixing of the DB support to the
wall/slab.
After installation of DB supports, installing position of the DB as per approved shop drawing.
If there is more than one DB to be installed at the same location, they shall be installed side
by side and clearance shall be maintained as per approved shop drawing.
9.7. Wiring for lighting & Power Points
Before starting the wiring for the above mentioned activities, make sure that the
plasterwork is finished completely in that area / floor & there is no more water still on the
walls.
Before start pulling the wires, make sure that there is no water or any rubbish inside the
conduits.
The sharp edges will be avoided on both ends and on junction points of conduits embedded
in the concrete.
At the false ceiling area (60 x 60), use a ceiling rose with a heat resistance wire & where are
coming a gypsum board ceiling, extend the wires from the slab to the expected level of the
gypsum ceiling through a flexible conduits.
For the light & Power circuits, wires & cables will be used as per the approved material
submittal. Lighting & Power circuits will be run in separate conduits.
The wires & cables will be installed in conduits, trunking and ladders as per the approved
shop drawings.
For branch circuit work, originating from light & power panel boards will be arranged as per
the approved drawings. Loads on various phases of panel boards will be balanced as per he
approved load schedules.
For avoiding any damaged for the conductors, insulation or jacket of the wire or cable
during the pulling stage, and lubricants will be used properly to prevent any stresses on
conductors.
For pulling the wires, install 3mm galvanized standard steel wire with wooden blocks
fastened at ends in empty service conduits.
At every branch circuit outlet & pull-box, every cable passing through will be left slack to
allow inspection & for connection to be made. Cables terminating in outlet boxes will be left
with at least 250mm extra length for terminations.
All circuits will be properly labeled during the pulling work to facilitate the terminations at
the respective devices.
After the pulling circuit works completely, all the circuits will be checked & tested if any
open circuits, short circuits, earthing continuity & excessive resistance or leakage.
9.8. Fixing Cable trays
Cable Trays & Ladders will be “as specified” type as per the approved material submittal.
All accessories used such as “bends”, intersections, risers, reducers, elbows, etc. “used in
cable trays & ladders will be of the same manufacturer as that of the trays & ladders all
screws installed inside the cables tray shall have unsquared heads in order to not damage the cables
Prior to start any installation of Trays & Ladders, a complete coordination will be carried out
with other mechanical services to avoid any interference or interrupted for the service.
Tray / ladders routes will be marking at the ceiling before start any fixing of these items.
Each run of cable trays & ladders will be completed before installation of any cables. Each
run will be aligned, levelled & securely fastened to the ceiling / wall.
Inspect the supports to ensure the conformity to project specification and drawing.
Support cable tray to maximum space of 3 meter. Number the cable tray as per IFC drawing.
Supports each 1.5 m will be provided to prevent stern on cables entering or leaving tray.
Cable trays extending through partitions & walls will be protected by fireproof non-
combustible barriers.
Shift of tray materials in proper manner to avoid any physical damage and peeling/scratches of
Galvanizing.
Cable tray accessories/pieces fabrication on site will be avoided.
After installation, sharp edges shall be grinded properly to prevent cable damages then touch up rich
paint.
Protect the cable tray edges by protection cap before cable pulling.
Sharp edges, burns & projection will be removed for fixing the trays & ladders approved
suspension rods or steel angle brackets will be used at spacing not exceeding 1.5 meter and
Use and install cables only as shown on client approved shop drawings & as directed by the
manufacturer
Lay cables in one length unless otherwise indicated. Obtain permission from Engineer for all
through joints, and where overall length requirement exceeds practical drum size.
Use drum stands, drum axles, fair leads, rollers, cable stockings and other equipment as
recommended by the cable manufacturer and as appropriate to the method of installation.
Install cables so that they are orderly and capable of being withdrawn.
9.9.1. Trunking
In vertical trunking provide pin racks at 3m intervals.
Use ties at 2-3m intervals for all wires of the same circuit reference.
9.9.2. Conduit
Provide cable clamps in conduit boxes at 10m intervals in vertical conduit and cable
insertion boxes near the curves.
All conduits shall be fixed by clamps, supports etc., every 1,5 meters.
Allow for full range of movement at building construction movement joints. Make all joints
to wiring at terminal blocks in conduit boxes.
Place cables side by side or as indicated. Fix using cable ties so that any cable may be
individually removed.
9.10. Cable Termination & Glanding
Ensure all joints and terminations and glanding are made by appropriately qualified Person,
using, components and workmanship recommended by the cable manufacturer
Cut all cable ends immediately prior to jointing or terminating.
Strip cables to bring out the cores and expose conductors, for the minimum length required
for connection, to leave no exposed length of conductor after termination. Ensure that
strands are not damaged when stripping cable cores. Twist strands together. Do not reduce
number of strands. Secure all strands at terminations.
Clean arm our thoroughly prior to jointing or terminating. At connections to equipment and
switchgear without integral cable clamping terminals, use compression type lugs for bolted
terminal connections.
Do not bunch more than three cores at clamping terminals or bolted connections.
Mark cable conductor phasing, or other core identification, at each end of all cables.
The Contractor shall be responsible for testing all cables before finally making off ends and
connecting up.
Where cable sheaths are used as earth continuity conductors, glands shall have the
necessary contact surfaces or straps to provide a low resistance path under fault conditions.
All cable connections to plant shall be made with approved cable lugs, compression type
together with the usage of proprietary tools.
All glands in outdoor situations and wherever else specified, shall be of weatherproof and
water tight type. Gland manufacturers shall be subject to approval. Glands shall be selected
to suit location and type of cable used.
Earthling tags shall be fitted to each gland, on assembly, prior to the lugs being attached.
Ensure to order cable glands in kit form complete with earth tag, shroud, locknut, neoprene
seal etc.
9.11.1. General
All materials and equipment will be furnished and install as per the approved shop
drawings, material submittal and proposed method statement.
All the equipment will be installed in accordance with the manufactures recommendations /
installation instructions and as per the site requirements / approved master project
program.
A metallic nameplate will be provided with Manufacturer’s name, Panel type and Ratings.
The assembly of distribution boards will be completely wired and rested at the factory ready
for installation when received at site. Bracing will be provided to prevent distortion in
handling and shipping.
Distribution boards will be incorporate plug-in type miniature circuit breakers of tripping
characteristics B, C or D for lighting, miscellaneous power or motor loads on necessary
complete as specified as shown in the approved drawings.
Interiors will be so designed that circuit’s breakers can be replaced without disturbing
adjacent units and without removing the main bus connectors.
All exterior and interior steel surfaces of the Panel Boards will be properly cleaned after
completion of work and all rubbish, dust or concrete spatter will be removed from inside
and around the Panel Boards by using brushers, vacuum cleaner etc.,
D. Dressing of DBs
A professional electrician will be carrying out for this work.
Cable terminals will be suitable for the specified cable sizes. Adequate space will be
provided for cable terminations.
Dressing of standard cables will be done by using ferrules of sizes suitable for
accommodating all stands of the cables.
After finishing the 1st coat near the final DB’s, we will start fixing the inside components and
numbering, terminating the wires as per the Load Distribution Schedules, in addition to
fixing a suitable identification labels to clearly indicate the location and the purpose of each
item or circuit.
The neutral cable is connected to the neutral strip, which is turning in grounded with a bare
wire.
Armored cable will be strapped properly, a hacksaw is used to cut the cables, a suitable
angle to the cable for making a cut through one section of the spiral amour and care will be
taken not to cur the wires.
The glands for various single core and multi core cables will be on the purposed made and
suitable for rigid mounting to the enclosure.
Finally, after the dressing completed, the door will be fixed and covered for protect the
panels from any damaged, ensuring that all the engraved labels fixed for the DB sections,
main isolator, ELCBs etc.
Ensure that the polarity is correct – positive terminal of the battery to the positive terminal
of the charger. Switch on the charger and charge according to the commissioning charge
paragraph below. The first charge must be monitored to ensure that the limits are not
exceeded and that no unacceptable temperatures occur. The electrolyte level on delivery
can vary. The final electrolyte level will be achieved after the commissioning charge.
Do a thorough examination of the installation area for its dryness and cleanliness.
Check if the position of the base frame of the transformer is well fitted. Ensure it is leveled
and rightly grouted. As a precautionary measure, if the leveling is unsatisfactory, get the civil
engineer responsible for carrying out the correction.
Inspect the fabrication quality and correctness of the diagonal frames to ensure they meet
with the required standard before the commencement of installation.
Ensure the transformer can fit through the door of the transformer room.
Choose which transport method to employ to carry the transformer. Ensure the lifting
devices used can accommodate the weight of the panel and the distance needed to be
covered.
Safe and satisfactory arrangements should be discussed immediately with the contractor or
subcontractor if the lifting device cannot fit properly to the transformer.
Ensure no personnel is standing in close proximity to the lifted transformer.
The attached ropes should be placed at a considerable distance on the hoisting tackle. This
is to ensure they don’t exert any pull (force) on transformer panel walls.
Check the necessary dimensions and weight specifications of the transportation unit as
specified in the delivery note.
Inspect the transportation gear and lifting tools to ensure they meet with the required
standard regarding load-bearing capacity and construction.
Check the center of gravity of the transportation unit.
Don’t allow any personnel to climb the Transformer.
For safety purposes, If the low voltage compartment of the transformer is removed, do not
step on the mounting plates.
According to the manufacturer’s recommendation and direction to install the system.
Give the minimum working space in accordance with the manufacturer’s and Municipality
electric office specifications.
Use manufacturer’s instructions and diagrams, to Identify the system components and
connect them together and to the right circuits.
Insulation resistance test shall be done before commencement the termination work.
AII cables shall be terminated by suitable terminator, and proper tools shall be used for the
cable termination.
Termination of high voltage cables shall be carried out and supervised by specialists able to
demonstrate their expertise in this work.
Heat shrinkable termination kits shall be used for high voltage cables. The termination of
H.V cables shall be carried out in accordance with manufacture’s instruction.
Heat shrinkable cable termination kit shall be used to terminate overhead lines.
HV and main LV feeders and motor cable termination and joint, a minimum 2m length
secured cable loop shall be provided for future connection. These loops shall be provided
outside the pavement area at substation.
All conductor terminations shall be applied compression type cable lugs, except control
circuits and other small wiring, which shall be wired clamp type terminal blocks using pin
clamp.
Cable shall be cut to proper length and remove cable jacket. During stripping the jacket with
the stripping knife special precautions shall be taken to avoid nicking or scratching of the
insulation.
Cable shall be terminated using Nickel-plated Brass glands, incorporating an internal armor
clamp and seal the outer and inner sheaths. All glands shall be certified and suitable for the
classification of the equipment in both areas 1 & 2 hazardous areas
All cables and cores are suitably dressed and bundied in panel, junction box, and terminal
box etc.
The ends of cables shall be temporarily protected to avoid being damaged or to be free of
moisture until termination complete.
Shields or drain wire shall have continuity from the sensing element to the end device. The
shields shall be earthed only at a single point as shown on the approved drawing or
specification.
Earth terminal and connected cable core shall be marked and identified with suitable plastic
type ferrules in accordance with relevant wiring diagram.
Debris shall be removed and cleaned in junction box, terminal box, panel, electrical
equipment and/or instrument.
Each end of cable shall be numbered in order to avoid errors during connection.
Cables may be identified by special plastic or non-corrosive metal labels held with cable ties,
or similar method.
Cable number shall be attached on easily visible part; each cable shall have identification
attached as per schedule. Cable identifications shall be free of discoloration, erase-
prevented and not detached after work.
If cable numbers is attached on a spare length, it shall be replaced when cutting the part.
Cable marking shall be printed or typed in order to prevent erasing, and shall be tied up or
fixed using heat-contraction to prevent detaching.
Insulation resistance test shall be measured before and after the cable termination.
Finally, H.V cable shall be tested by high voltage as per specification and test procedures.
12. Cable laying inside the cable trench outside the main substation.
The total cable route shall be inspected to ensure that the routing is complete, as per
approved layout and free from any sharp edges, etc. and it is coordinated with other
external services.
Size and length of the cables to be checked by the Engineer In charge and supervisor before
cutting the HV cables. As per cable cutting schedule, site electrical supervisor will ensure
that the cable drums are shifted to the required locations.
Cable drums are to be positioned on jockeys and cable end to be left from the top.
Rollers are to be placed in regular intervals according to cable route while pulling the cables
and rubbing of cables on ground shall be avoided to protect the cable insulation.
Cable laying shall be started by rotating the drum in a direction, recommended and marked
side of the cable drum and cables are pulled, accordingly.
Insulation resistance of HV Cable should be checked by using 5 kv megger after installation
and be termination of cables and readings shall be submitted to the consultant.
The width of the cable trench shall be maintained minimum 500 width and 1000 mm depth
according to the number of cables for buried cables.
Soft sand shall be spread 150mm below the cables and 100mm above the cables. Over this a
layer of 300mm clean earth shall be filled. Each layer of 100mm need to be softly Rammed).
Concrete tiles should be laid above the clean earth layer before closing the cable trench.
Install a cable marking tape 250mm below the finished ground level covering each cable.
Install a cable marker at each change in cable direction, joint position and entry points to
buildings.
Obtain Client’s approval before cables are covered and trenches back-filled.
All cables shall be installed with approved identification bands at each end and over their
entire length at 30mtr intervals.
HV cable termination should be done as per approved specification and by authorized/
certified technician under the supervision of Engineer in charge.
Site Engineers or Site Supervisors should ensure the approved drawings of latest revision
are followed and approved materials are used for installation.
13. Earthing
The earthing systems shall be installed in accordance with the specification and the
referenced standard installation details.
All earthing materials shall be used in accordance with the specification and latest approved
drawings.
Any deviation from criteria indicated in specification shall be submitted to COMPANY for its
review and approval prior to installation.
Route excavation depth shall be completed and confirmed as per approved Earthing layout
drawings and typical installation drawing. Earthing cable could be installed at the same
trench with an electrical cable.
Buried depth shall be minimum 600mm below grade and the earthing cable shall be run in
other side of the trench and minimum 1m at the road crossing.
Excavation and backfilling of earth cable trenches shall be performed by Civil or Electrical
SUBCONTRACTOR. The excavations shall be carried out by hand inside plant.
Location of earth electrodes shall be driven as shown in the approved earth layout
drawings.
Number of earth electrodes shall be provided to limit the earth resistance values.
The connection from earth electrode to the earth ring cable shall be made in concrete
inspection pit with cover, using bolted clamp.
Connections to above ground equipment and earth busbars shall be by crimp type lugs and
bolted connection.
All joints in the underground system shall be by the thermite welding process.
All earthing cables installed above ground shall be PVC insulated, a yellow and green colour.
Cable armor and lead sheath shall be earthed through the cable gland or joint to the
earthed equipment at both ends. Single core cables shall be earthed at the supply end only.
The electrical continuity of metal enclosures for electrical equipment shall be assured
between enclosure and earth.
Ground wire shall be indicated yellow and green.
Ground electrodes shall be connected each other through main ground wire in loop type.
