Further preparations for proper access and work stages are to be arranged for safe han-
dling, distributing and spreading of the backfilling materials.

6.2.2. Survey work:

Survey work to fix reference points for elevations and coordinates to be planned and established
base on the main Survey Control Points in order to facilities the Compaction process avoiding
conflict with machineries and vehicles and shall be protected from movements; and if required,
during the progress of work stages, an additional survey reference points will be established.

6.2.3. Backfilling and Soil Compaction:

• The exposed subgrade shall be moist to the optimum moisture content (OMC) and well
compacted by heavy roller compactor and tested to achieve the max dry density (ASTM
D-1557).
• The imported backfilling materials from selected borrow pits shall be stored in stock piles
arranged in suitable places: therefore a plan will be prepared before starting the works
indicating stockpiles locations. Specimens shall be tested from individual stockpile for
compliance with specifications and to obtain MDD (Modified Dry Density) and OMC (Op-
timum Moisture Content).
• Backfill material shall be laid systematically in layers not exceeding 200mm for structural
fill, 250mm for general fill and 250mm for lean backfill (to be used after company ap-
proval)followed by levelling.
• After levelling, heavy roller compactors shall be used to achieve the min. density of 90%
of MDD according to ASTM D-1557 for general fill min. 95% of MDD for structural fill and
min. of 90% of MDD for lean fill.
• If a compacted layer fails to meet the specified percentage of maximum density the layer
will be re-compacted and retested. No additional material shall be placed over a com-
pacted layer until the specified density is achieved.
• The compacted areas shall be kept in tidy condition, clean and free from loose materials
to receive the subsequent layer.
• Level of top backfill layer for each area shall be in accordance to related construction
drawings and referring topographical survey reference elevation.

6.3. Demobilization:
As soon as the backfilling and Soil Compaction works are completed, the whole machineries and
equipments which are not necessary for the successor activity will be demobilized from the site.
