1. OBJECTIVE
This work method covers the Soil Compaction works for Zubair Permanent Power Generation
Plant (ZPPGP) in Zubair Oil Field Development Project - Basrah-Iraq.

4. STATUS OF WORK
Soil Compaction works shall start based on:
• Completion of excavation, leveling, grading and works for the area.
• Completion of a satisfactory inspected and approved of subgrade compaction as per design
criteria and method statement for excavation.
• Drawing (s) issued for construction related to the specific area which required receiving com-
pacted backfill material.
5. RESOURCES
5.1. Personnel:
Work will be carried out by qualified personnel as below:
• Civil Engineers.
• Surveyor.
• Civil Foreman.
• Skilled Labours.
• Skilled Equipments and Operator.
5.2. Equipments:
In accordance to work requirements, the following machineries and equipments will be used in
general:
• Surveying Instruments.
• Motor Grader.
• Pay Loader.
• Dump Truck.
• Roller Compactors.
• Water Tank Truck.
• Pneumatic Compactor.
6. PROGRAM OF WORK
6.1. Mobilization:
Mobilization will be carried out within 2 days from the date of receiving the acceptance to com-
mence the works and approval of work permit.
6.2. Sequence of work:
The sequence of work will be as follow:
• All the HSE requirements in accordance to Project HSE Plan will be imple-
mented.
• Backfilling and Soil Compaction requirements regarding the equipments and
machineries will be arranged according to work requirements.
• The sequence for the works will be according to the Project Master Schedule.
6.2.1. Preparation:
• Verify that survey bench marks, control points and intended elevations for the works are
as shown on the drawings and protect them properly.
• All subgrade compaction and test have to be completed and approved as per design cri-
teria, approved project Method Statement for Backfilling & Soil Compaction and other
relevant recognized engineering standard (e.g SCRB state commission for roads and
bridges (design manual for roads and bridges). Ministry of housing and construction -
1983 with 1999 and 2003 revisions).
• Confirm the laboratory which will be carry out soil tests and compaction tests and the
relevant requirements.
• Confirm the availability of equipments and tools necessary to use in emergency cases re-
lated to the operation of machineries and vehicles.
• Before commencing the Backfilling and Compaction works, the grated levelled and exca-
vated areas in the work site shall be checked to assure safe operation of machineries.
Further preparations for proper access and work stages are to be arranged for safe han-
dling, distributing and spreading of the backfilling materials.
6.3. Demobilization:
As soon as the backfilling and Soil Compaction works are completed, the whole machineries and
equipments which are not necessary for the successor activity will be demobilized from the site.
7. QUALITY CONTROL
• The works shall be executed in accordance with the Project Quality Plan.
• The works shall be executed in accordance with the approved Inspection Test Plan (ITP)
relevant to this activity.
• The contractor QA/QC engineer will be monitoring the activities and as per the inspection
level specified in the ITP.
7.1. General Fill
• 3 density test / 1000 m , each layer, at least 1 test below every major foundation.

7.4. Roads
• 2 density test / 500 m, each layer.
8. HSE
General
• Work is to be carried out in a safe manner and accordance with the H.S.E Program and
Safety Policy. Site operatives shall be well inducted for the safe operation of the machin-
eries, equipment & Tools to be used.
• Personnel Protective Equipments will be used by all staff & labour. The minimum person-
nel protective equipments is as follows:
- Safety Helmet
- Safety Footwear
- Eye Protection
- Any other equipments required by the site operator or deemed necessary by the task.
• All regulation implemented by authority at site will be considered.
• Proper barricades and traffic signs shall be placed around the work site location wherever
required.
