c.
3. Activate the Table Assy component
4. Switch to the Sheet Metal Tab across the top
5. Create a new Sheet Metal component, called Leg Support Plate, using Stainless
Steel (mm)
6. Create a sketch on the inside face of the E
nd Cap Cover
a. Project the inside face of the End Cap Cover
b. Draw a trapezoidal shape coincident to the inside corners of the cutout (see
image)
c. Draw a vertical construction line from the midpoint of the cutout to m
idpoint
of the bottom horizontal line
d. Dimension this line to be 4in (even though we are in mm)
e. Dimension the horizontal line to be 10.25in (even though we are in mm)
f.
7. Use the Sheet Metal Flange command to create a sheet metal part.
a. Make sure the Thickness option is set to the correct side so it extrudes away
from the End Cap Cover and not into it
8. Select the top edge of the sheet metal part and right-click-->Flange
a. Change Edge 1 to Symmetric
b. Distance = 92mm
c. For the Height, click on the flat face of the wall of the End Cap Cover
d. Height Datum = Inner Faces
e. Bend Position = Inside
f.
9. Now create a flange on b oth inside angled edges
a. Height = 130mm
b. Height Datum = Inner Faces
c. Bend Position = Adjacent
10. Fillet the bottom corner edge 80mm
a.
11. Create a flange on the bottom long edge
a. Height = 5.5mm
b. Height Datum = Inner Faces
c. Bend Position = Adjacent
d.
12. Create another flange on the b
ottom edge of the lip you just created
a. Change Edge 1 to Symmetric
b. Distance = 82mm
c. Height = 10mm
d. Angle = 0
e. Height Datum = Inner Faces
f. Bend Position = Adjacent
g.
13. Fillet the sharp corners of the two small flanges 10mm
a.
14. Now we are going to create the bent metal section that follows the pipes
a. Turn on the Tube component
b. Create a flange on the top edge of the “wing”
c. Change the Edge 1 to Two Offset
d. Start dragging the “inside” arrow to create a -20mm distance for the tab
e. Height = 20
f. Angle = 48
g.
15. Click on the top edge of the new flange you just created and create another flange
a. Height = 10mm
b. Angle - 30 (play around with the angle to have it “match” the pipe
c.
16. Add one more flange
a. Height = 10mm
b. Angle = 20
c.
17. Fillet the 2 sharp edges 10mm
a.
18. Use the Hole command to make a 12mm diameter hole
a. Position it 33mm over from the left face and 10mm up from the lower edge
b.
19. Create another hole, 10mm in diameter, 43mm over, and 65mm up from the same
edges as before
20.
21. Mirror the 3 flanges, the fillet, and the 2 hole features over to the other side using the
midplane between the two pipes
a.
22. Unfold the part to see that the mirror features actually unfold! (Cancel to refold)
23. Create a new Sheet Metal component called Leg Tab using the same sheet metal
rule.
24. Create a new sketch on the inside face of the sheet metal component
a. Project the left and bottom flanges o
nto the sketch
b. Create a 35mm long line as shown in the image
c.
d. Constrain the line to be parallel with the angled flange
e. Dimension t he line to be 45mm over from the inside edge of the angled flange
and 32mm up from the bottom flange
f.
25. Use the line to create a sheet metal flange 55mm long. Make sure the Thickness is
set to Side 1
a.
26. Chamfer the edges of the tab 10mm
27. Fillet the chamfer edges with a 5mm fillet
a.
28. Create a sketch on one of the flat faces of the tab
a. Project the circle from the flange onto the tab
b.
29. Use the Hole command to create a hole at the center point of the circle
a. Create an 11mm diameter hole through the tab
b.
30. Mirror the Leg Tab to the other side of the part using the midplane as the mirror plane
31. Activate the Leg Support Plate sheet metal component
32. Create a sketch on the outside flat face
a. Create a 22mm diameter circle near the lower-right corner of the trapezoid
b. Dimension the circle to be 43mm over and 20mm up from corner
c.
33. Draw a Centerline through the midpoints of the trapezoid
34. Use the Mirror command to mirror the circle
a. Notice because you used a Centerline, the mirror command automatically
selected it as the Mirror Line
b.
35. Extrude/Cut the circles through the part
36. Create a new Standard component called Handle Mount under Table Assy
37. Create a sketch on the flat face of the sheet metal part
38. Extrude the circular profile of the hole as a Thin-Walled extrude
a. Set the Direction to Two Sides
i. Side1
1. Distance into the sheet metal part = -8mm
2. Wall Thickness = 1.5mm
ii. Side2
1. Distance away from Sheet Metal part = -20mm
2. Wall Thickness = 1.5mm
b.
39. Copy and Paste the Handle Mount over to the other hole using Move/Copy and Point
to Point as the Move Type
a.
40. Add the Decal
a. Scale and position it so it is centered between the Handle Mounts
b. Turn off the Chain Faces option as it is only on one face (rotate around to show
why)
c.
41. Save!
42. Imagine trying to model this without using sheet metal!
