Misola
Francisco K., 2016, ‘Martial Law, the dark chapter in Philippine history, Journal of Rappler.

In this article, Francisco K. examines the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines and
the consequent events that influenced the country's history. The author gathered information
from documents and records to describe how Martial Law impacted and invalidated people's
rights. Their research focuses on the consequences of events that happened in the martial law
period. The article is relevant to our study, as Francisco K., described the experiences of the
Filipino people under the Marcos regime which plays an important part in our research. The
article has no limitations. Despite the fact that it has been many years since then, the victims
have not forgotten what happened, especially since the Marcoses have failed to recognize
their wrongdoings or make amends. This article will not be the core of our research;
nonetheless, it will provide important information for my framework for making the study.

Misola and Cueva

Dela Peña, L. (2021, September 21). Marcos’ martial law: Golden age for corruption, abuses.
INQUIRER.

In this article, Dela Peña debunks the claims of revisionists about the golden era of Marcos.
The author presents factual data and graphs of GDP, external debt, numbers of people killed,
and other data to provide evidence during his time. The article’s scope; the author tackled the
costs of dictatorship, worsening poverty, the flee of Marcos family to Hawaii, billions stolen
by them, and the people that were tortured for fighting the oppressive government during the
deadly regime. Dela Peña mentioned a collection of data concerning the number of persons
who had their human rights violated as well as the various types of torture experienced by
victims of martial law, which is relevant to our research issue. This information is crucial to
our research. The article has no limitations thus, the author concluded that similar problems
continue to affect the country since martial law was imposed, as President Rodrigo Duterte's
regime vigorously continued the route of Marcos' reign. The aim of the article is to open the
eyes of the readers to the twisted facts and lies and to state how Martial Law became a
weapon to overrule the powerless. This article contributed and provided information that will
certainly be beneficial to our critique review paper.

Nillo
Sy, D. A. (2020, February 25). [OPINION] Activism is not a waste of time. RAPPLER.

According to Sy's article, some individuals regard activism as a kind of youth empowerment,
social reform, or a people's voice, while others see it as a form of rebellion. Through social
media and news story comment sections, the author sought out people's varied viewpoints on
activism. The article focuses on the good impact that activism has on our country, as well as
the red-tagging of youth leaders and other activists who are targeted for their activity by
vigilantes and government forces. The purpose and goals of this article are to elicit people's
opinions on the relevance of activism in bringing about change and the importance of the
government listening to the people's cries. People felt unsatisfied with the condition of
martial law and turned to activism to build a movement during the EDSA Revolution. This
article's drawback is that it lacks in-depth information regarding where it acquired its
criticism in activism resources. In order to encourage constructive change in our society,
rather than the government emphasizing its own pleasures, the author concluded that
everyone should understand the need of activism and the importance of shouting out people's
concerns because they must be heard. I considered the fact that no one can deny activism's
ability to effect significant change, and that this essay would be useful in my future studies.

Bautista
Tankersley, J. (2018, August 19). How Sexism Follows Women From the Cradle to the
Workplace. The New York Times.

In this article, Tankersly discusses sexism, observing how women born in states with more
sexist attitudes as they grow up earn less and work less than men born in the same states as
they age. The authors use data gained through the respondents admit that women should not
work outside the house or take part in politics and that they should not, they also agreed that "
For everyone involved, it's much better if the man is a successful outside the home activist
while the woman is a successful outside the home achiever.” The researchers solely looked at
white adults and focused on gender discrimination rather than racial prejudice. Despite the
fact that the same gender is expected by the researcher’s disparities to exist also they weren't
sure how much of the gap could be attributed to discrimination based on race rather than
gender in other categories. The article is useful to my topic, and it has important information
about sexism, aside that it’s related to our critique paper because Amanda’s character
demonstrated in times of emotional crisis, men need their woman, and women may be a safe
refuge and source of support for them. The main limitation of the article is that the question
was restricted by adults. The author, Tankersly simply included the survey interview with Mr.
Charles, Mr. Guryan and Ms. Pan and they reference this article to express their feelings and
experiences. This article provided insight and insight into our critique paper and suggested
where we should start our efforts to give gender equality and freedom between women and
men and suggested where we should start our efforts to give.

Cueva
Luna, N. (2016, March 22). Patriarchy, Manny Pacquiao and Madonna. RAPPLER.

In this article, Luna discusses patriarchy, a type of social system, in the Philippines' context.
Religion and capitalism that were brought by colonizers, and how it heavily influenced
Filipinos. Relating to the case of Manny Pacquio and his religious beliefs. Madonna’s
upbringing in a patriarchal household with her father and how it had influenced her music.
The aim is to take action to end patriarchy, which begins at home. The scope and extent of
patriarchy can be seen in the church, the media, the law, and even among family members.
This article is useful, informative, and has a relation to our critique paper, because of the
character of Christopher de Leon as Julian, the father of the household, and his patriarchal
behavior reflected in how he treats his wife. Because it is an essay article, there is no research
procedure and data collection. The author, Luna N., simply included an interview with
Madonna from the Rolling Stones and other references in her article, in which she expressed
her thoughts and views. To conclude, the author’s opinions are relatable, relevant, and very
true to what’s happening in the surrounding. This article provided an insight and
enlightenment into our critique paper, and suggested where we should start our effort to end
patriarchy, is at home.
