If the machine begins to move during test, reduce the engine speed
immediately and engage the parking brake.
Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear
of all rotating and moving parts.
Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch
and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the
machine.
Introduction
Some of the components that are connected to the electronic control modules (ECM) can be
calibrated by using the Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET).
The calibration of a component allows the ECM to determine the correct output level. The calibration
also allows the ECM to determine the correct input signal of displacement.
For more information on error codes that may occur during calibration refer to "Calibration Error
Codes" in this manual.

Note: Not all of the following calibrations can be preformed using the Secondary Display.
Required tools
The Cat ET Calibrations can be performed using Cat ET. The tables below list the tools needed to
perform the calibrations in the given tool.

Calibration Preparation
1. Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location that is away from operating machines and
away from personnel.
2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine.
5. Turn the key to the ON position, but do not start the engine.

To access the calibration procedures for the ECM, establish the connections of the Cat ET (T2) to
the machine. Navigate to the calibration screen by clicking "Service" on the tool bar and then clicking
"Calibrations". Select the desired calibration procedure that is required. Click the "Start" button at the
bottom of the screen.
Once the specific calibration is selected, the Cat ET (T2) will guide you through the calibration
procedure.
The Cat ET screen will list initial machine conditions that must be satisfied before the ECM will allow
the calibration procedure to continue. Follow the specific instructions on the display to complete the
calibration procedure.
Select the "Calibration" option from the Cat ET menu. Follow the instructions that are provided. The
calibration procedures are performed to compensate for the variations in the components that are
attached to the transmission ECM.
The ECM must detect the following conditions before starting the calibration procedure:
If the machine is equipped with a retarder lever, the retarder lever is placed in the OFF position.
Set the engine speed to low idle. The engine will accelerate automatically during the calibration
procedure.
An error message will be displayed if the set-up conditions are not met. The operator will not be
allowed to continue the set-up process.
If any of these conditions are not met during the calibration procedure, the procedure is aborted
immediately.

The fill calibration function is used to optimize the shift quality. This calibration procedure must be
performed under the following conditions:
Perform the calibration after the moving of an ECM from one machine to another machine.
Perform the calibration after replacing or servicing any of the transmission solenoid valves.
Perform the calibration after replacing or servicing any of the transmission clutches, seals, or
pumps.
Two parameters are adjusted during the fill calibration, pulse time and hold level. The hold level is
calibrated first. The pulse time is calibrated second. The fill calibration for each clutch is completed
before the next clutch begins.
During the fill calibration, the system software will detect the end of fill cycle for the clutch. The end
of the fill cycle is detected by using a drop in converter output speed and a drop in the relative clutch
(slip) speed. To detect a drop in converter output speed, a load must be applied to the transmission.
This process can be accomplished by engaging one of the clutches that is not being calibrated.
The hold level calibration will determine the touch-up pressure that is applied to the clutch pack by
the clutch piston. Each clutch command is pulsed and held at the minimum allowable hold level
pressure for a specific duration of time. After a 2.0 second pause, the next clutch is pulsed, held, and
released. This process is repeated until all the clutches have been cycled.
The hold level pressure is incremented and the cycle is repeated. The hold level pressure for a clutch
is calibrated when the fill cycle is completed and fill cycle is completed within the specified hold
time. The corresponding hold level pressure is the calibrated value.
After a clutch has been calibrated, the clutch is taken out of the cycle and a 3.0 second delay is
inserted. The delay will allow the clutches that remain in the cycle to drain. This process continues
until the hold level pressure reaches the maximum allowable value, or all the clutches have been
calibrated.
The hold level pressure for any single clutch exceeds the maximum value.
The hold level pressure is set at the minimum value and the clutch fills at a faster rate than the
allowed cycle time.

(1) Hoist Lever
1. With the key switch ON, engine off, and park brake applied, pull hoist lever (1) back into the fully
RAISE position for a minimum of 60 seconds.
2. Push hoist lever forward into the fully LOWER position for a minimum of 60 seconds.
4. Once completed, the diagnostic code CID 773 - FMI 13 Hoist Lever Out Of Calibration should
automatically clear. Repeat if necessary.
