Good day class!

Pick-up the pieces of paper and

arrange your chairs properly before
you take a seat.

- Checking of Attendance
“Is there any absentee for today?’

“That’s very good to hear”

- Review From our past discussion, you have

already established a concrete
knowledge about the physical changes
that matter undergoes.

In today’s discussion you will learn

more about the another changes of
matter. At the end of the lesson, you
should be able to:

1. define chemical change

2. identify the different evidences of
chemical change
3. cite importance of chemical change
in daily life

A. ACTIVITY

I have here a short video from

youtube, watch the video and pay
attention to the result as the lady
mixes vinegar and baking soda.

The students watch the video quietly at

their seats.

B. ANALYSIS
1.What are the materials used in the The materials used in the video are

2. What happened as she mixes

vinegar and baking soda? As she mixes the vinegar and baking
soda, bubbles are formed

3. According to the video, what is the Carbon dioxide is the gas that comes
gas that formed out of the two out of the experiment
substance?

4. What can you infer from the product The product cannot be back from its

original form?

5. What occurs between the two Chemical reaction occurs at the two
substance that makes them transform substance
into another material?

Did you ever make a volcano using Students answers may vary

C. ABSTRACTION

youtube showing the reactions of the
two substances combined.

What happens when the two

substances are combined? They produce an eruption of foamy
bubbles
This happens because of chemical
change.

A chemical change occurs when a

molecular identity of matter change
into an entirely new form. This change
is irreversible means there is no going
back once a chemical change occur.

How can you say when an object or When a matter changes chemically into
matter undergoes chemical change? an entirely new form and it cannot be
back to its original form.

The red lava is the result of a chemical

reaction between the baking soda and
vinegar.

In this reaction, the carbon dioxide gas

is produced is produced; pressure
builds up inside the plastic bottle until
the gas bubbles came out of the
volcano

From our past discussions, we Chemical Property is a characteristic

differentiate chemical from physical of matter that can only be observed and
property. What is chemical property? measured by performing a chemical
reaction or chemical change.

Chemical changes occur when two or

more substance is combined to form a
new substance, called chemical

synthesis, or, chemical reactions.

In what process does chemical

changes occur? Through chemical reaction, chemical
changes occur.

Here are some examples of changes

that you see and observe in your
surroundings.

Give me some examples of chemical

changes. Students answer may vary.

Some chemical changes are easy to

observe. The products formed by
rearrangement of atoms look different
than the reactants.

Other change is not easy to

understand to see but can be detected
in other ways.

Evidences of Chemical Change

1.Evolution of heat and light- a

change in matter that releases energy
as both heat and light, is strong
evidence a reaction has taken place.

What is the evidence that evolution of

heat and light has taken place in a When a change in matter releases
chemical reaction? energy as both heat and light.

Sometimes light is given off without

the temperature being high. We call
this luminescence.

When the light is as a result of an

inorganic chemical reaction, we call

it chemiluminescence. When a
living organism uses chemicals in its
body to emit light, we call
it bioluminescence.

What is the main difference of

chemiluminescence from
bioluminescence?

The main difference of the two depends

on the source of chemical reaction.
Example is the light production in Chemiluminescence is from chemicals
fireflies due to a type of chemical while bioluminescence is from living
reaction called bioluminescence. organisms.

Application of heat to some substances

also causes chemical change such as
lightning of fireworks, photosynthesis,
and burning a candle.

evidence.

2. Change in temperature

Most chemical reaction involves

temperature change. If temperature
increases, as it does in most reactions,
a chemical change is likely to be
occurring.

Example is when you mix baking soda

and vinegar together, mixture will drop
in temperature. Another example is
spoilage of food.

What is the reason why food spoil? Food spoil because it is exposed for too
long in room temperature causing
bacteria to grow.

What is the chemical property involve Food has toxicity as its chemical
in food being spoil? property.

3. Change in Intensive properties

like color and odor.

Again, what is intensive property? Intensive property is a physical property

that does not depend in the amount of
matter.

Chemical reactions can release

molecules with certain scents or smell.
The chemical change when an egg is
rotting produces the smell of sulfur.
Another example is baking bread and
pastry, the good smell coming out
from oven is an indicator of chemical
change.

produces smell.

A change in color is often an indication

of a chemical change. For example,
rusting iron. Rust is formed when iron
reacts to oxygen in moist air.

Cite some examples of a change in

color Students answer may vary

4. Formation of gas.
Sometimes a chemical reaction
produces a gas as one of its
products. When this happens, we can
observe bubbles or fumes.

How will you know if a chemical

reaction produces gas? When there is a bubble or fumes.

Baking soda reacts with vinegar and

produce water, carbon dioxide and
sodium acetate.

When sodium bicarbonate in anti-acid

dissolves in water, it reacts with
hydrogen ions from the citric acid, and
forms carbon dioxide.

5. Formation of precipitate
Many chemical reactions form products
that exist in a different physical state
from the reactants. A solid product
called a precipitate may form when
chemicals in two liquids reacts.

What do you call to the solid product

formed that is different from the
reactant? A solid product is called a precipitate

You have probably heard the word

“precipitation”, but maybe not when
talking about chemistry.  We also use
the word precipitation to refer to the
types of water that fall from the sky.
The solid in a precipitation reaction
also often falls, or sinks, to the bottom
of the solution
