    The advantages of prefabrication include:

    •Factory tolerances and workmanship is of a higher quality and


    consistency to that achieved on site.

    •Programmed savings due to the ability to progress work as a


    parallel operation in a factory and on a construction site.

    •There tends to be less waste.

    •An alternative means of production where there may be


    shortages of local skilled labour.

    •Independence from adverse weather and winter working.

    DISADVANTAGES OF PREFABRICATION

    The disadvantages of prefabrication include:

    o Road transport maximum widths.

    o The need for police escorts.

    o Height restrictions under bridges.

    o Daytime traffic restrictions in city centers.

    o Maximum load capacities of site craneage and


    temporary gantries.

    o Additional cost of
    temporary bracing for transportation and/or lifting or
    permanent framing to support prefabricated assemblies.

    PRESENT APPLICATIONS IN
    INDIA
    Presently in India, we have very few trained people
    available in the private industry to execute the precast
    concrete system. The service provided is more oriented to
    the various other methods and techniques available in the
    market construction.
    The end-user has a perception of higher budget and less
    quality towards the pre-cast concrete construction. Most of
    these projects in the country are carried by using
    conventional construction technologies without any
    innovations. Due to this, the benefits of using precast
    concrete technology are not being utilized completely
    and makes the project management complicated in terms
    of speed and quality of construction.
