 It is a field a science that helps us understand the harmful effects that chemicals, substances, or

public health.

2. Differentiate Drug Abuse, Drug Dependence and Drug Addiction

Drug abuse is the term for drug use that is inconsistent with society or medical norms, such as using
drugs excessively or for non-medical purposes. Drug dependence is a condition in which a person has
grown physically or mentally dependent on a substance and needs it to operate normally. As a result,
when the medicine is not taken, withdrawal symptoms may develop. Drug addiction is a persistent,
recurrent illness marked by obsessive drug seeking and usage, even when doing so has negative effects.
This is a more serious type of substance dependence that can have a serious negative impact on a
person's relationships, daily life, and health.

 Heroin: Heroin is an opioid drug that is illegal in the Philippines. It is typically injected, smoked, or
snorted and produces a pleasurable feeling of euphoria. However, long-term use of heroin can lead

behaviors such as sharing needles, which increases the risk of spreading diseases such as HIV and
Hepatitis C.
