Power-On Self-Test (POST) Errors


WheneverarecoverableerroroccursduringPOST,theBIOSdisplays anerrormessagedescribingtheproblem. Ifasystembootisincomplete(forexample,thesystemisturnedoff whileitisgoingthroughthePOST),thenthenexttimethesystemis poweredonyoumaygetamessagestatingthatthepreviousbootwas incomplete.TheBIOSwillreverttosafevaluesforthechipset,caches, I/Ocomponents,etc.Thisprovidesthebestpossibilityofreturningto theSetuproutineandtonormalfunctioning,butthesevaluesdonot alwaysproducemaximumsystemperformance.Toachievemaximum performanceaftertheBIOShasrevertedtosafevalues,reenterSetup andselectthemaximumperformancevalues. If,forexample,theterminalwassimplyturnedoffduringPOST,you canreturntothemaximumperformancevaluesbysimplyentering Setupandexitingorbyrebooting.

Getting Started
ToTurnUnitOn/Off:UsethelogicOn/OffSwitchonthelowerright ofthesystem(belowtheMSR).Ifthisdoesntwork,checktheswitch onthepowersupplyinthebaseofthesystem.Thisswitchneedstobe on.Whenoff,thisisequivalenttounpluggingthesystemfromAC power. Note: Thereisadelayofseveralsecondsbeforeinformationbeginsto displayonscreen. BIOSSetup:ToenterSetup,rebootthesystemandpress<DEL>when thescreenimagefirstappears. HardwareChanges:PowerthesystemoffanddisconnectitfromAC priortoopeningtheunitormakinganyinternalhardwarechangesas describedinthisdocument. 1. CheckthattheunitispluggedintoAC. 2. CheckthattheAClinecordandextendercordaresecurely pluggedintothe7402powersupply. 3. ConfirmthatthecustomersACbreakerorfuseisOKandthat therearenootherACqualityissues. 4. CheckthatthePowerSupplyRockerSwitchison. 5. UsetheOn/OffSwitchtopowerontheunit.

Still No Power LED


1. LiftthedisplayandcheckthePowerSwitchHarnessconnections onbothends(PowerSwitchBoardandMotherboard). 2. Checkthetwomainpowersupplyharnessesconnectionsatboth ends(PowerSupplyandMotherboard/7402RetailBoard). 3. Boththe20pinand4pinpowerconnectorsmustbepluggedinto themotherboard. 4. CheckthatthePCIrisercard(ifinstalled)andDIMMmemory modulesarecorrectlyseated. 5. Checkforcorrectseating,bentpins,orshortingconditionsonany connectors. 6. BesuretounplugtheACorswitchoffthePowerSupplyRocker Switchbeforechanginganyconnections.

IftheaboveareOKthenthePowerSupplymaybefaulty.If exchangingthePowerSupplydoesnotcorrecttheproblem,orifthe PowerSupplyisconfirmedtobeOKonanothermachine,thendothe following: CheckforcorrectseatingoranybentpinsonCPU(Note:youmust followthecorrectproceduretoreattachtheCPUheatsinkafter doingthis). ExchangetheRetailDaughterCard. ExchangetheMotherboard.

Note: Thisisdifferentthanonthe7454. 7454:PowerLEDturnsonwhentheCPUbeginsrunningcode 7402:PowerLEDturnsonassoonasthepowersupplycomesup DeterminewhetherornottheCPUisstillrunningDothefollowingif possiblebeforerebooting: 1. BIOSsettingsProblem:ThedisplaysettingsintheBIOSNorthBridge menumustbeasfollows: LCD(LFP)Type DisplayType 800x600LVDS VBIOS(default)ifyouronlydisplayisthe integrated LCDLFP+CRTifanexternalCRTisconnectedin additiontointegratedLCD Windows Display Driver Settings Problem: UnderControlPanel>IntelExtremeGraphics,confirmthat theLCDdisplayisenabled. IfyouareusingExtendedDesktoptogetdualindependent displays,confirmthatthedisplayyouwanttobeprimary remainstheprimary. Ifyouneedtoadd/removedisplays(i.e.CRT)itis recommendedthatyoushutdownfirst.Whenyoupowerup, ensuretheBIOSDisplaytypeiscorrectforLCDonlyor LCD+CRT(seeabove).

Backlight Inverter Problem: Warning: Highvoltage.Powerdownunitbeforeproceeding. Checktheinverterharnesstomotherboard;confirmthatitis fullyseatedonbothends. Checkthattheinvertermodulehasnotcomeloosefromits mountingbehindtheLCD. CheckthatbothbacklightcablesfromtheLCDpanelare pluggedintotheinvertermodule. Poweruptheunitagain.Ifthereisstillnodisplaythen continuewiththefollowingstepsbelow.
