DISCUSSION 13

Can someone read our objective for today’s lesson? Objectives

a. differentiate biases
and prejudice
b. make judgments
based on the scenario

Thank you.

So you already know what is bias and prejudice and its

different type. Today we are going to differentiate the
two and analyze some scenario where you will make a
judgement if the situation is showing bias or prejudice.

The term bias is disproportionate weight in favor

of or against one thing, person, or group compared
with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.
It is a judgment based on a personal point of view.

On the other hand, prejudice is the negative feeling or

attitude towards a person or a group even if it lacks
basis. It is based on insufficient facts and usually
unfavorable and/or intolerant.

Take a look at these examples.

Examples:

Set #1 - I think the winner for Miss Universe should be

a woman who has white complexion.

Is it bias or prejudice?

the physical beauty of a candidate, not on the
wholesome beauty.

protruding lips, black complexion and big eyes. So
disgusting! She is not fit to be the titleholder.

How about this one?

Prejudice ma’am
Why?
The speaker is discriminating the
Yes, very good. This is prejudice because the speaker looks of the candidate
is discriminating the physical beauty of a candidate,
and this is racism.

Set #2 - Our school should accept only those who

share the same religious beliefs with us.

Is it bias or prejudice?
Bias ma’am
This example shows bias because only those who are
interested to enroll in their school cannot enter unless
they share the same religious beliefs with the
