Abstract

Plastic Pollution is a very serious Environmental Issue right now. According to the

World Bank, the Philippines produces 2.7 million tons of plastic waste annually due to a

deficient waste management system and a strong reliance on single-use plastics.

Researchers said that by the year 2050 the amount of waste plastic in the ocean may

contain more plastic than wildlife sea creatures. With this knowledge, this paper aims to

tackle the possible solutions on how to lessen the use of plastic in our daily lives. We

know that we cannot stop using plastics because it is very essential to us, however, as

a human who benefits from our environment, we should take responsibility and take

action to prevent the possible worst case scenario.

I . Introduction

Along with the development of technology, Our lives are made much simpler by

plastic. Every individual stands to benefit from the usage of plastic because it is

affordable to produce, lightweight, reusable, corrosion-resistant, and easy to mold into

a variety of shapes. It is used for a variety of purposes, including packing for some of

the goods we eat and shopping. Despite the fact that plastics are useful to humans, we

use them excessively. Many of these products, such as plastic bags and food wrappers,

have a lifespan of mere minutes to hours, yet, they may persist in the environment for

hundreds of years. The usage of plastic not only harms our ecosystem but even those
animals not directly involved. Millions of animals are killed by plastics every year, from

birds to fish to other marine organisms. Nearly 700 species, including endangered ones,

are known to have been affected by plastics. Nearly every species of seabird eats

plastics.

II. Body

Plastic pollution is a serious and big problem that our planet is experiencing right

now. Plastic, however, has a detrimental effect not only on the environment but also on

living things since it decomposes slowly, which has a large negative impact on the

environment when plastic is burned, a hazardous chemical is released into the

atmosphere, contributing to causing air pollution. Plastic is quickly integrating itself into

our everyday lives. Plastic is used to package food and other products, as well as for

furniture, appliances, clothing, and many other things. Although plastic is useful in

many aspects of our life, it ultimately ends up in landfills, the ocean, or even our air.

According to the Ateneo de Manila report, the Philippines is ranked third globally for

its contribution to plastic garbage. An estimated 0.75 million metric tons of ocean

plastic are produced annually in the Philippines. This plastic pollution wasn't just

produced in our nation; it was also imported illegally into other Southeast Asian nations,

with the Philippines being just one of them.

Each of us is dazzled by durable materials such as plastics. We argue in this

statement that we should reduce and limit ourselves in the use of plastic because It

never vanishes from Earth's surface. To secure a healthier and safer future for our

planet, our behaviors and beliefs regarding plastic need to improve. We must act

accordingly to our needs and we, humans, need to play a role in the environment to

protect the ecosystem at all costs. This paper may serve as an additional dull lesson for

us on how urgent it is to outlaw plastic bags. On the other hand, this paper is not

saying to ban and never use plastic materials, however, this paper tells us to be wiser

when using plastic, we must discipline ourselves first before doing any actions to our

environment.

III. Conclusion

Our country is considered as one of the most offenders of marine plastic pollution.

Although the Philippine Government is taking their action to Plastic Pollution, Us

individuals need also to do their job. To be able to lessen the plastic waste, we should

limit the use of plastics especially when you do not need it. It can help us, and also our

country, to lower the tonnes of plastic that enters our ocean. At the same time, we

should promote recycling of plastic because recycling lessens the consumption of "new"

plastic being used and helps keep plastics from entering the ocean. Participating in the

organizations that are working to reduce and remove ocean plastic, will also be one of

the effective ways to reduce some plastic waste. Aside from recycling the plastics that
we used, we should also clean and help those people so that we are able to have a

better and cleaner country.

The inevitable pollution from plastic is concerning. We are kept here on this earth to

live, but as long as we live, we destroy nature. To solve this crisis and protect the earth

for future generations, we humans must act. The project that our group is putting out

encourages everyone to use less plastic. Recycling is a very effective way to ensure that

plastic waste doesn't simply end up in the oceans but also ends up being used to create

useful items. Since there would be no plastic pollution without humans, it is now our

responsibility to put an end to this catastrophe.
