Informational Analytical
Reports Report
INFORMATIONAL REPORT

a factual text which provides information


in an organized and objective way,
without analysis, recommendations or
evaluation
Examples of Informational report:
Meeting Minutes - summarizes the discussion and results from a
meeting.

Expense Reports - nearly always have a prescribed format.

Status Update - short and tightly focused on the purpose.

Trip or Conference Report - used to summarize and transmit


learning from a trip or conference.
ANALYTICAL REPORT
provides much the same
information as the informational
report along with evaluation or
recommendation.
Examples of Analytical report:
Proposals or Feasibility Reports - provide analysis and propose a
direction to take.

Justification Report - detailed and accurate, and provide


supporting documentation that backs up your argument.
HOW TO WRITE AN
INFORMAL REPORT
Effective Informal Report:
PLAN

OUTLINE

PLANNING THE REPORT
gather information

make sure that you understand what the


purpose of the report will be.

include questions, suggestions and calls


to action.
OUTLINING THE REPORT
write an outline including an introduction,
points to be covered and conclusion sections.

use bullet points whenever possible and add


graphs or charts if they are easy to understand.
FORMAT OF THE REPORT
using headings, summary statements,
separate sections, and clear paragraphs
use a catchy heading for each new section and
write a few attention-grabbing lines in the
beginning as an introduction.
the body of the report should be short, factual
and organized under outline headings if it
covers a multipart topic.
FORMAT OF THE REPORT
any reference notes belong at the bottom

attach any documents that are referenced in


your report .
WRITING THE REPORT
include only the facts, without editorial comments.

the conclusion section is the proper place for evaluations,


suggestions for further action and questions.

keep yourself out of it unless you are required to provide


analysis or your own opinion.

mark each point of information with a heading or a bullet


point and keep the text to one or two short paragraphs.
REVISING THE REPORT
use certain reviewing tools for proofreading
and finding grammar mistakes, but make sure
you read it yourself at least once more.

submit it as quickly as possible.
