    INSTITUTIONAL DESIGN

    SURVEY ON MUSEUM

    B.S. INTERIOR DESIGN
    The Iloilo Rehabilitation
    Center as it is formerly
    called, was built in 1911
    during the American
    colonial period on an 868
    square meter lot owned
    by the provincial
    government. It housed
    hundreds of inmates until
    it was abandoned in 2006
    after the jail was
    transferred to Pototan
    town in Iloilo.
    The building was restored
    in 2015 and is now
    converted as the New
    Western Visayas Regional
    Museum. The newest
    cultural hub will house
    hundreds of
    archaeological artifacts,
    fossils, textiles, and other
    cultural relics. One is the
    Oton Death Mask, a pre-
    hispanic gold mask found
    in a grave site in the town
    of Oton.
    It has 5 galleries in the
    lower ground area and an
    open gallery on the
    second floor.

    The old Iloilo Provincial Jail built in 1911 now serves as a regional extension of the National
    Museum of the Philippines which houses treasures of Western Visayas rich history.
    Iloilo City is known to preserve our past while also gearing towards more progress.

    FLOORING

    The over-all flooring is composed of tileworks in different shade, designs and texture,
    particularly on the stairs which is best for non-slipping and slope visibility.
    WALL

    In this selection, the interior walls are painted shades of white and other colors, some
    walls are made of ACP or Aluminum Composite Panels best for cost effectivity and easy
    installation.
    CEILING

    The ceiling works are simple yet very useful,


    cove ceiling exudes plenty of upward space
    and in drop ceiling where some lights are
    placed so that upward space is utilized
    without containing the space. The dome
    ceiling is the highlight of the museum which
    significantly affect light and additional space
    or accent to the interior.
    DOOR & WINDOW

    Glass doors in some areas are tinted with images that correlates to history, glass
    windows in awning and fixed styles on the areas in need of natural lighting, a wise
    strategy to lessen electricity usage and promoting sustainability.
    LIGHTING

    In the preservation and adapting of natural history, it constitutes to a wide range


    selection of lighting to redefine history in the eyes of the new generation. Track
    lights in any museum plays the vital role on focus and attention, the usual
    downlights are utilized on the spacious part of the museum, more importantly,
    natural light comes in deeper sense in a way it provides everything during day
    time even the night and moon light.

    DISPLAY PATTERN

    Prison of Iloilo, a regional museum of Western Visayas implies patterns that highlights exhibits
    of the natural history including the Ilonggos' vibrant past and talents. The ways these patterns
    are used in certain ways like, casings, wall mounted displays of artworks, accessible
    catalogues and buffet type exhibit in chests that resembles treasure of Ilonggo culture.
    Exterior Plan
    The Al Fresco area surrounds the dome which gives a calming view of the whole complex. A view
    of the Iloilo River and the Iloilo Esplanade makes up the back view while the last view is that of
    another landscaped garden with a stage plus various government buildings like the Iloilo Hall of
    Justice.
