PART 1. EVALUATE
1. What should the officers and crews know regarding with their company security officers?

- Enforce Safety Precautions, in an emergency, the security guard is responsible for enforcing safety
precautions in line with company policy. These precautions will help protect employees, guests, and the
public from danger and will enable the guards to direct them away from harm.

2. How are the ship security alert system tested?

- Annual check of complete SSAS system must be performed (usually done during annual radio equipment
survey) and during the renewal or intermediate inspection of ISPS certificate. The checks to be performed as
per the Ship Security Plan.

3. What should be related to the ship security plan?

- Records related to training and maintenance of equipment required by the ship security plan should be
maintained. These may include but not be limited to:

 Changes in security level


 Communications relating to the security threats or port facilities the ship is, or has been, in.
 Date of internal audits and reviews of security activities conducted.
 Date of review of the ship security plan
 Maintenance, calibration, and testing of any security equipment provided on board, including testing
of the ship security alert system.

Any security related equipment fitted on board should be periodically inspected and maintained, this may
include: -

 Razor/ barbed wire


 Water cannons
 Security locks /locking arrangements
 Lockable hatches/ stairwells etc.

4. What should the vessel maintain, relating to ports of call?

- Port of Call or Port call Optimisation is reducing the ship's dwell time and improving the utilization of port

facilities. By doing this, the vessel will have a safe environmental impact and enhanced safety and security
management for the port, terminals, ship manager and service providers.

5. What kind of assessment a vessel must possess?

- A ship security plan (SSP) is a must for every ship under the ISPS Code. Moreover, to ensure that every ship
follows all the protective measures specified in the SSP, a Ship Security Assessment is carried out by the
concerned authority.

6. What should be maintained by the ship to prevent unauthorized access in port?

- There should be a continuous gangway watch and a routine for regular rounds of the deck to monitor
potential access points (e.g., hawse pipes; mooring ropes; etc.). Remote monitoring of different areas on
ships is increasingly being used. Where technology such as CCTV is employed to monitor potential access
points to the ship this should be noted in comments.

7. What should be provided by the company to the ship

- The company should provide a good crew for manning the ship. It also undertakes crew training, career
development, and everything related to its payrolls, insurance, and other employee benefits. 5. It should
arrange for the loading and unloading of the cargo.
PART 2. EXTEND
Describe the ship cyber security policy, procedures, and plan. Why do you think it is necessary?

- Cyber security is concerned with the protection of IT, OT, information and data from unauthorized access,
manipulation, and disruption. Cyber safety covers the risks from the loss of availability or integrity of safety
critical data and OT.
