For the Learner:
Welcome to the English 1 Alternative Delivery Mode
(ADM) Module on Sorting and Classifying Familiar Words
into Basic Categories (Colors, Shapes, Foods, etc.)!
Sorting is any process of arranging items in order and
according to some particular characteristics. It is the next
step in the process which begins with matching to see the
difference and similarities of words. When you sort, you do
not simply enjoy arranging words but at the same time
you can also practice your vocabulary by learning how to
spell and compare words with their categories.
This module was designed to provide you with fun
and meaningful opportunities for guided and
independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning
resource while being an active learner.

Discussion of Activity 1

When we put things or words together, we classify

them based on the similarity of ideas.
Sorting of words means putting together those which
have the same characteristics. Sorting is also called
classifying. In classifying familiar words, it is necessary to
organize them into their closest matching category. We
look for the similar words that belong to a particular
group.

Examples:
Category Familiar Words
color red, blue, yellow, green
number one, two, three, four, etc.
