3.1General
To comply with the Code, buildings shall
(a) have an Energy Performance Index Ratio (EPI Ratio) as defined in §3.1.1 that is less than or equal to 1 and,
(b) meet all mandatory requirements mentioned under §4.2, §5.2 , §6.2, and §7.2.
Buildings that fall within the scope of the Code as mentioned in §2, shall comply with the Code by meeting all the mandatory
requirements (see §3.2.1) and any of the compliance paths mentioned in §3.2.2, §3.2.2.1, or §3.2.3.
3.2.1 Mandatory Requirements
Buildings shall comply with all mandatory requirements mentioned under §4.2(Daylighting), §5.2 (Comfort Systems and
Controls ), §6.2(Lighting and Controls), and §7.2(Electrical and Renewable Energy Systems), irrespective of the compliance path.
3.2.2 Prescriptive Method
A building complies with the Code using the Prescriptive Method if it meets the prescribed minimum (or maximum) values for
envelope components (§4.3), comfort systems and controls (§5.3, §5.4, §5.5), and lighting and controls (§6.3), in addition to
meeting all the mandatory requirements.
COMPLIANCE SUMMARY
Calculated data ECBC requirement
1. openable window-to-floor area ratio (WFRop) is 19.30% 1.Minimum requirement of window-to-floor area ratio (WFRop)
2.Manual Daylighting Compliance Method the UDI for layout 1 is 66% for composite climate is 12.50%
3.Uroof value for assembly : RCC slab + plaster = 2.8 (does not comply)
RCC slab + foam conc. + plaster = 0.6 (complies) 2.Minimum requirement of daylight for residence is 50%
RCC slab + plaster + tile = 2.8 (does not comply)
4.Uwall value for assembly : brick wall(115,230) = 0.4 (does comply) 3. Thermal transmittance of roof shall comply with the
brick wall(115,115) = 0.4 (does comply) maximum Uroof value of 1.2 W/m2 .K.
flyash brick wall = 0.2 (does comply)
AAC brick wall = 0.3 (does comply) 4.The maximum Uwall value of 0.4 W/m2 K.
hollow brick wall = 0.4 (does comply)
5.Maximum allowable Window Wall Ratio (WWR) is 40%
5.window wall ratio (WWR) is 23%.
LAYOUT 1 DAYLIGHT COMPLIANCE
LAYOUT 1 DAYLIGHT COMPLIANCE
LAYOUT 1 DAYLIGHT COMPLIANCE
As per the Manual Daylighting Compliance Method the UDI for OPTION 1 has comeout to be 66% , which means 407.6m²
of area will meet the UDI requirements. This is more than 50% of the total grade area of 821m². Thus, the building will comply with the ECBC
norms for UDI as per the criteria prescribed in §2.5.
LAYOUT 1 VERTICAL FENESTRATION COMPLIANCE
LAYOUT 1 VERTICAL FENESTRATION COMPLIANCE
As SHGC eq. of all four directions is less than 3.0 vertical fenestration complies with it.
OPTION 1(roof - foam conc. + wall - flyash) EPI RATIO COMPLIANCE Calculation of EPFProposed Building
from actual envelope properties
Maximum allowable Window Wall Ratio (WWR) is 40% (applicable to buildings showing compliance using the Prescriptive Method, including Building Envelope
Trade-off Method)
Anon-opaque = 701.68m²
Aenvelope = 3010.84m²
WWR = Anon-opaque/ Aenvelope = 701.68/3010.84 = 0.23 = 23%
For EPFroof :
EPFroof = 8816.482
For EPFwall :
EPFwall = 4286.84032
For EPFfenest :
EPFproposed = 22843.57
EPFstandard = 33185.08
=0.6
As, the EPI ratio of the building is less than 1 and comply with all mandatory requirements mentioned under
§4.2(Daylighting), §5.2 (Comfort Systems and Controls ), §6.2(Lighting and Controls), and §7.2(Electrical and Renewable
Energy Systems) the building complies with the ECBC code.
5. COMFORT SYSTEMS & CONTROLS
5.2MandatoryRequirements
5.2.1 Ventilation
(a) All habitable spaces shall be ventilated with outdoor air in accordance with the requirements of §5.2.1 and guidelines specified in the
National Building Code 2016 (Part 8: Building Services, Section 1: Lighting and Natural Ventilation, Subsection 5: Ventilation).
(b) Ventilated spaces shall be provided with outdoor air using one of the following:
i. Natural ventilation
ii. Mechanical ventilation
iii. Mixed mode ventilation
5.2.1.1 Natural Ventilation Design Requirements
Naturally ventilated buildings or spaces in a mixed-mode ventilated buildings shall:
(a) Comply with guidelines provided for natural ventilation in NBC.
(b) Have minimum BEE 3-star rated ceiling fans, if provided with ceiling fans.
(c) Have exhaust fans complying with minimum efficiency requirements of fans in §5.3, if provided.
5.2.1.2 Mechanical Ventilation Air Quantity Design Requirements
Buildings that are ventilated using a mechanical ventilation system or spaces in mixed-mode ventilated buildings that are ventilated with a
mechanical system, either completely or in conjunction with natural ventilation systems, shall:
(a) Install mechanical systems that provide outdoor air change rate as per NBC.
(b) Have a ventilation system controlled by CO sensors for basement carpark spaces with total car park space greater than or equal to 600 m2.
