STITCH GLOSSARY (continue):
M1 - make one stitch as follows: with the needle tip, lift the stand between the last stitch knit and the
next stitch on the left-hand needle and knit into back of it. One knit stitch has been added.
3/3 LC - slip next 3 stitches to cable needle and place at front of work, K3, then K3.
3/3 RC - slip next 3 stitches to cable needle and place at back of work, K3, then K3 from cable
needle.

“Cross 2 right (K)” - knit the 2 st on the needle, passing in front of the 1 st, then knit 1 st, slipping
both sts off the needle at the same time.
“Cross 2 left (K)” - knit into the back of the second st on the needle, passing behind the first st, then
knit into the back of 1 st, slipping both sts off the needle at the same time.
KNITTING PATTERNS:
Ribbing (for symmetry and continuity work on a multiple of 2 sts + 1 st + 1 edge st each side):
Row 1 (RS): Sst, * YO, sl1, K1 *, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, YO, sl1, Sst;
Row 2: Sst, * k2tog, YO, sl1 *, Repeat from * to * to last 3 sts, k2tog, Sst;
Row 3: Sst, * YO, sl1, k2tog, * repeat from 8 to last 2 sts, YO, sl1, Sst;
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for pattern.
Honey comb pattern (for symmetry and continuity work on a multiple of 4 sts + 1 edge st each side):
Row 1 (RS): Sst, * “Cross 2 right (K)”, “Cross 2 left (K)” *, repeat from * to * to last st, Sst;
Row 2: Sst, purl to last st, Sst;
Row 3: Sst, * “Cross 2 left (K)”, “Cross 2 right (K)” *, repeat from * to * to last st, Sst;
Row 4: Sst, purl to last st, Sst.
These 4 rows form the pattern.
Cable pattern: Work the Cable Chart as follows: work rows from 1 to 21, then repeat from Row 14 to
Row 21 5(6; 7) more times and then work rows from 22 to 29. Bind off all stitches. See the Cable
Chart.
HAT:
The hat is knitted back and forth on needles starting from the middle part and finishing with an earflap
on each side.
With knitting needles size 8 (5.5 mm) cast on 27 (35; 39) sts for middle part and continue in ribbing as
follows:
Row 1 (RS): Sst, * YO, sl1, K1 *, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, YO, sl1, Sst;
Row 2: Sst, * k2tog, YO, sl1 *, Repeat from * to * to last 3 sts, k2tog, Sst;
Row 3: Sst, * YO, sl1, k2tog, * repeat from 8 to last 2 sts, YO, sl1, Sst;
Repeat row 2 and row 3 10(12; 14) times.
Next row (preparation row): Sst, * p2tog, P1 * repeat from * to * 6 (7, 9) times, M1, ** p2tog, P1,
repeat from ** to last 3 sts, p2tog, Sst; [28 (36; 40) sts]
Continue in the Honey comb pattern as follows:
Row 1: Sst, P1, * “Cross 2 right (K)”, “Cross 2 left (K)” *, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, P1, sst;
Row 2: Sst, K1, purl to last 2 sts, K1, sst;
Row 3: Sst, P1, * “Cross 2 left (K)”, “Cross 2 right (K)” *, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, P1, Sst;
Row 4: Sst, K1, purl to last 2 sts, K1, sst;
Repeat last 4 rows 6(7, 8) times. Insert pair of SM at the beginning and at the end of next row to
indicate the beginning of the earflaps.
Work rows from 1 to 4 of the Honey comb pattern 4 more times for all sizes and place second pair of
SM at the beginning and at the end of next row to indicate the ending of the earflaps.
Work from row 1 to row 4 of the Honey comb pattern 8(9; 10) more times.
Bind off all sts.

With RS facing and knitting needles size 8 (5.5 mm) cast on 14 sts evenly along the edge between
two stitch markers on one side of the piece. Continue following row-by-row instructions below or see
the Cable Chart.
Row 1 (WS): Sst, P12, Sst [=14 sts] Rows 16 - 19: Repeat rows 14 and 15
Row 2 (RS): Sst, M1, K12, M1, Sst [=16 sts] Row 20: Repeat row 12
Row 3: Sst, K1, P12, K1, Sst Row 21: Repeat row 7
Row 4: Sst, M1, P1, 3/3 RC, 3/3 LC, P1, M1, Sst Repeat from row 14 to row 21 5(6; 7) more times.

Work the second earflap the same way on the other side of the piece.
ASSEMBLY:
Sew earflaps and the middle part of the hat together on each side inside 1 edge stitch.
CROCHET EDGE:
With crochet hook size 5.0 mm (size H) crochet along the bottom edge of the hat from RS as follows:
start in the corner where the left earflap begins, work sc around the left earflap into each edge st,
continue along the back part into every second stitch and then finish with the right earflap. Fasten off.
Weave end on RS.
Fold the forehead flap edge upwards over the hat and attach it to the hat both sides with piece of yarn
and knitter’s needle.
