What are the Conflicting Ideas Between Religious Thought and Ideology of Globalism
Discussed in Lesson 1?
Everyone in the world has their own beliefs. Most of us are part of a religious organization,
some are not. Religion is associated with human personality and lifestyle. It is made up of
different religions that have their own beliefs, customs and practices. It can also be said that there
are individuals who do not really believe that there is a God who created the world. By defining
and contrasting religion and globalism, the angles of why it became part of globalization and why it
affects people's lives will be clarified. We will distinguish how religion contrast globalism in terms of
beliefs, views, norms and practices. By this, a more constructive thought about globalization will
adhere and realized. In association with some studies, a more defined and detailed reasons why
people are classified as globalist or religious individuals.
According to Balasuriya (2000), religions endeavor to communicate a meaning and purpose
to human life and relationships. Religions present a core teaching on how human life can lead to
fulfillment and lasting happiness; they indicate a path of salvation or liberation in this life and in the
hereafter. Christianity in its better insights can motivate its adherents to live according to the core
values proposed by Jesus Christ and the Bible. The sharing of the earth’s resources justly among
all humans is a primary obligation of all disciples of Jesus. It is also the core teaching of the other
world faiths, or the implication of their basic values. The core values of the religions are: against
greed, accumulation, exploitation of persons and nature; and for sharing, tolerance, respect for all
persons and nature. The religions advocate that society ensures that each person is cared for as a
human being with rights to life and the means to contented living. All the religions stress the spirit
of sharing of material resources among all humans.
Religion is more on focus about how people could communicate to the holy. It is a set of
beliefs which will tend people to understand their selves. It is a way of knowing and strengthen the
faith on God. Religion focused on how to spread the words of God that's why there's pastors,
priest, monks and disciples who relay the messages of holy by the use of different scriptures.
Religious people centered sacraments as sacred and devote themselves in living sinless and
morally. They are those people who takes wealthiness as their less important in this world. They
believe that money is the reason why there are greed, selfish and sinners. Religion advocate
equality, which means they saw everyone with equal in living and opportunities in life. Religion
seeks to act in accordance with the commandments given by the holy.
In contrast, Willers (2017) stated that globalism needs to grow up and become an
articulated political ideology that people can elect to run the world. This ideology and it’s goals
does no oppose national states or local governance, nor does it challenge the power of open
markets and free capital movement it simply overrules these institutions and trading traditions on
matters that concerns all humans globally. Globalism is determined to end poverty and hunger, in
all forms and dimensions, and to ensure that all human beings can fulfil their potential in dignity
and equality and in a healthy environment. It protects the planet from degradation, including
through sustainable consumption and production, sustainably managing its natural resources and
taking urgent action on climate change, so that it can support the needs of the present and future
generations. It foster peaceful, just and inclusive societies which are free from fear and violence.
There can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable
development. Globalism ensures that all human beings can enjoy prosperous and fulfilling lives
and that economic, social and technological progress occurs in harmony with nature. It mobilize
the means required to implement this agenda through a revitalized global partnership for
sustainable development, based on a spirit of strengthened global solidarity, focused in particular
on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable and with the participation of all countries, all
stakeholders and all people.
Globalism seeks to address innovation, expansion and intensification of materiality. It
focused on developments and progressions of the world that tends to assist the circulation of
goods and services. Globalism emphasizes the importance of material wealth and fulfillment in
lives of every individuals. It pointed out how everyone should contribute and affected by
globalization. Globalism is about the nation's need to cope up with other nations, and global
governance is a key aspect of it. Globalist people are concerned on how to prosper and be treated
as what they wanted. They are deliberated in assuring they get the best and deserve silver lining
of fate. Globalism seeks to follow the nation's policies and laws which enables human rights and
equality for every individuals. It ensures solid and sustainable innovations without meddling
cultures, beliefs, views, and practices of each and everyone.
A way to get peaceful and equality is by having a wide and bolder understanding in
differences. Religion may tend to cause war and quarrel because of different views and beliefs but
nevertheless it is concerned about the span of lives which exactly emphasize the good and bad.
Religion and globalism had contradictions to each other. They are defined unevenly and varies
views and beliefs inversely. Religion is more on how people should communicate and have
relationship with the holy while globalism is the mobilization for innovation and expansion of
globalization. Religion may be concerned of living virtuously and righteously abiding the
commandments of God but globalism focused the prosperity and success of a nation that brings
people opportunities to live abundantly.
Therefore I conclude religion and globalism brought advantages to every individuals.
Religion gives meaning and purpose to life, reinforces social unity and stability, and may motivate
people to work for positive social change. On the other hand, globalism attempts to understand all
the inter-connections of the modern world and to highlight patterns that underlie them. By being
both religious and globalist person you understand the importance of faithfulness with hardships.
Having this two aspects will result in apprehension of differences and contradictories on beliefs,
norms, culture and views. Being in a religion and a globalist at the same time allows you to
achieve a legitimate prosperity in life.
