Activity #1 Through the Years

Now, we will define what a community is, its nature, and dynamics. You will need to answer the questions
listed below. Type your answers (including the questions) on a word file.

1. What does the community provide you with as individuals?


- Community provides us socialization and is our helping hands in our everyday lives. Socialization through
interacting with each other and building connections. It helps me improve myself in engaging with different
people of different lives and experiences. Also community provides us a sense of unity through helping
others in need. Having connection and interaction in the community, it will be easy to ask for help from
them.

2. What things in the community had a significant effect or influence on your growth as an individual?
- A child character and development can reflect on what community he/she grows. And for me as part of our
community the things that influences me is having positivity. I grow in a community wherein people are
living a life of farming and I can see the hardships and difficulties of their work. But despite of that
hardships I can always see their smiles. It shows that no matter how hard the things you are doing as long
as you have positivity in mind you can surpass that.

3. How did your positive and negative contributions affect other members of the community? How will you
describe your relationship with your community?
- The positive contribution I have to the community is to have an interaction and connection with them
which could build a positive relationship between members of the community. While my negative
contribution is not attending to some events or activities in our community due to my studies wherein if I
was there I could provide hand and help the other members of our community during that event. My
engagement with our community depends on my personal errands. During summer break I am active with
some events or activities in our community. Before the pandemic I taught in Catechesis to children and joins
whatever activities that our community will have.

4. How does a community shape its people and vice versa?


- Community consist of different kinds of individuals and community shapes it people by providing
interaction and connection to the people amidst diversity and differences of each individual. And people
shapes community by taking care of it and provides for the betterment of community such as clean-up drive.

5. What makes a community? To answer this question, try to identify what you usually find in a community.
Into which categories will you classify these things?
- What I find is that people there focuses on farming which is under the livelihood. People there plants rice,
corn, sugar cane and coconut which are their source of income. And I came to realization that a community
makes a people who shares common interest and lifestyle.
Activity #3 Advance

There are do’s and don’ts that we need to consider so that we will not offend the sensibilities of the community
people. Knowing do’s and don’ts will also facilitate the gathering of information and promote successful
community project design and implementation. When we visit a community, we must remember to observe,
listen, and feel.

Answer the questions below:

1. List five (5) preparations that you should do before you visit a community where you have never been to.
Explain the importance of each preparation.
a. Identify a community that needs a big help. Every community needs help and have a problem presents
but due to limitations of resources we should only choose a few and the best way to choose of what
community that we are going to visit, is to prioritize those who needs us more.
b. Gather data about the community that you will visit. By gathering data about the community we could
be able to identify what’s in there and the problem or concerns present. Through this data we could be
able to make a concrete plan for our visitation.
c. Make a plan or activities that need to be done. Through planning, we could be able to meet our goal
within that community and to have an organized visitation without wasting our time.
d. Provide letter of consent or letter for the leader of that community informing about the visitation. This
is to give awareness to the people of the community about the visitation and so that they could check
their schedule if they are available during the time of visitation.
e. Make sure to prepare all the needed resources or materials. This is to avoid delays when you are
already in the community and so that, all activities will be done according to the plan.

2. List five (5) important things that you must keenly observe when you enter a community.
a. Maintain a warm attitude and soft approach to the people to avoid awkwardness while you are talking
and interacting with them.
b. Be polite to the people in the community to build rapport so that we could be comfortable while
interacting with them.
c. Be aware of the people you are interacting with. Each person has its own uniqueness and differences.
You should know how to handle different kinds of people.
d. Be considerate. There are times that you will encounter a person with attitude. Before you judge him/her
you should know him/her first.
e. Learn their culture. To be able to build connection and interaction with them, let them feel that you are
open to learn from them.

3. List two (2) do’s and three (3) don’ts during a face-to-face data gathering or interview with the local folks.
What would you do to change the don’ts?
- Do’s
a. Do a research about the things you will interview and prepare your questions to have a productive
interview
b. Give a warm welcome to your interviewee so that he/she will be comfortable while answering your
questions.
- Don’ts
a. Don’t interrupt him/her while she/he’s still not finish talking. To have a clearer flow of interview you
must listen first while he/she is talking and ask a follow-up question when he/she is finish
b. Don’t give a question that is too personal. Respect your interviewee’s privacy and if you know that
your question is too personal, ask first for his/her permission. And also, your question must be smart
and is related to your focus of interview
c. Don’t give your interviewee a bored expression while he/she is answering. Let him/her feel that you
are interested so that he/she won’t hesitate answering the interview.

4. Name one big challenge faced by your community that is caused by the COVID 19 pandemic.
- One of the big challenge that was face by our community during COVID 10 pandemic is the transportation
going to the town or market. Our community is far from town and people usually encounter delays one their
way to the town to buy their needs due to a number of checkpoints.

5. How did the barangay officials address that challenge in the early phases of the crisis?
- According the protocols implemented, the Barangay provide one quarantine pass on each family and
inform them the present situation to provide awareness and people could only go when necessary. Also for
some members of community who used to commute when going to the town, other barangay officials give
them a ride because it is so difficult to commute that time and transportation fee increased.

6. How did the community people respond?


- At first, people are complaining with the protocol but as time goes by they learned and realized that it is
for their own good and safety. They realized that COVID-19 is true and it can greatly affect you and your
family once you got infected with it.
