HAPPY NEW YEAR – CALENDAR 2023

This calendar is an ode to the beautiful city of Lucknow and endeavours to capture its
magnificent architecture, parks and gardens - sites of tourist interest, from the bygone
era and the contemporary period. A little bit of History of Lucknow has also been
captured in the process.

The Asafi Imambara, the most iconic historical building complex at Lucknow, was built by the then Nawab of Awadh, Asaf-
ud-Daulah around the year 1785. It is a sacred and majestic place of religious solemnity and also a marvel of architectural

The Hussainabad Imambara or Chhota Imambara, which was built by Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah
around 1838, is perhaps the most beautiful historical building of Lucknow City. It is a sacred and
majestic place of religious solemnity. It houses magnificent chandeliers, paintings and other sacred 5 Mohd. Hazrat Ali Birthday

The Chhota Imambara compex, comprising 2 mausoleums and a mosque, all painted in white, is a very
appealing sight to behold. The above building is supposed to be a modest copy of the ‘Taj Mahal’. 7 Holika Dahan

The Residency complex once housed officials of the British East India Company including the 1 Annual Closing of Banks
Resident General to the Court of the Nawab of Awadh. The building complex was destroyed 7 Good Friday
during the freedom struggle of 1857 and is preserved as a historical site, comprising of a group
of ruined structures laid across lush green lawns. These include erstwhile residences, a church, 14 Baisakhi/Ambedkar Jayanti
banquet hall, barracks etc. which were once fully occupied and rife with activity.

During the siege of Lucknow in 1857, the British Officials, armed personnel and civilians took refuge in the Residency
Complex and held on for 5 months facing a barrage of cannon fire from the freedom fighters. Many lives were lost on 1 May Day
both sides and the Residency complex was almost destroyed and abandoned. In the end the British prevailed and India
had to wait for its independence for another 90 years. 5 Buddh Purnima

29 Bakrid/Eid-al-Adha
Dilkusha Kothi was built in 1805 by Gore Ousely, a friend of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan. It was used as a
hunting lodge and a summer resort and depicts the Indo European style of architecture. It was
destroyed during the freedom struggle of 1857.

The clock Tower was built by the Hussainabad Trust in the year 1881. Its height is 219 feet. 29 Moharram
Designed by Richard Roskell Payne, it is the tallest among all the clock towers in India.

Ambedkar Memorial Park – Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Prateek Sthal, a spectacular
memorial to the prime author of the Indian Constitution, was constructed in the year 2008. Made mostly 15 Independence Day
from pink sandstone, it houses an Ambedkar Museum under a Stupa style structure. 31 Raksha Bandhan

The Ambedkar Memorial Park commemorates social justice Pioneers such as Mahatma Phule, Narayan Guru,
Shahuji Maharaj, Birsa Munda, Sant Ravidas etc. These dignitaries’ statues are housed under domed structure
on the extreme end of the park opposite the Ambedkar museum. The photograph showcases the entry to the
Ambedkar Park.

Janeshwar Mishra Park: Built to honour the socialist leader Late Shri Janeshwar Mishra, the park features his 25 23 Maha Navami
feet bronze statue near the park entrance. This parks covers 376 acres (1.52 square Km) across a vast area of 24 Vijaya Dashmi
gardens, waterways, dense tree clusters, playground for children and open air gymnasium.

View of the Gomti river from Kudiya Ghat named after Rishi Kaudilya. Lucknow is situated on both banks
of the Gomti river. Not only is the river a main source of water supply for the city, it also adds significantly 25 Christmas Day
to its visual beauty.
