    Excel is a spreadsheet program from Microsoft and a component of its Office product group for
    business applications. Microsoft Excel enables users to format, organize and calculate data in a
    spreadsheet Excel is an incredibly powerful tool for getting meaning out of a bast amounts of
    data. But it also works really well for simple calculations and tracking almost any kind of
    information. The key for unlocking all that potential is the grid of cells. Cells can contain
    numbers, texts, or formulas.

    A function in Excel is a preset formula, that helps perform mathematical, statistical and logical
    operations. Once you are familiar with the function you want to use, all you have to do is enter an
    equal sign (=) in the cell, followed by the name of the function and the cell range it applies to.

    EXAMPLE:

    The most frequently used functions in Excel are: AutoSum, IF function, LOOKUP function,
    VLOOKUP function, HLOOKUP function and etc.
    • Autosum is a Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet program function that adds together a
    range of cells and displays the total in the cell below the selected range
    When you click Autosum. Excel automatically enters a formula (that uses the SUM function)
    to sum the numbers. Here’s the example

    • The IF function is one of the most popular function in Excel, and it allows you to make
    logical comparison between a value and what you expect. Example;
    • Lookup function in excel means referencing
    a cell to match values in another
    row or column against the cell and thereby retrieving the corresponding
    results from the respective rows and columns.Example;

    Microsoft Excel is one of the most important because of the key role it plays in many sectors.
    It is the most used spreadsheet program in many business activities, classwork and even
    personal data organisation. Excel was first released in the year 1985. Since then, it has
    played a vital role in performing formula based arithmetic and calculations, and other
    activities that may require mathematical calculations. Many businesses, personal and
    institutional enterprises have embraced the use of Excel because of its utility and the ability
    to serve as a visual basic for different applications.

    The importance of Microsoft Excel can be seen in the different departmental units it is used
    as follows.

    This package plays a very important role in graphing as it has the ability to produce a
    variety of different charts, which may be used by different departments to represent
    statistical data in more visual way.

    organised manner.

    people, operations management, and performance reporting. The software is also handy for
    office administration, project management, and managing programs, contracts and account.
