A. ADDITIONAL WORK
Additional work is required by this revision for aircraft inspected by any previous issue.
Unless otherwise stated by an Airworthiness Directive, AIRBUS recommends the additional
work to be accomplished within 2000 Flight Cycle (FC) after the issue of this revision.
Additional work includes:
- Revision No. 01 was only applicable to a list of selected S/Ns, revision No. 02 is
applicable to all sliding tube S/Ns
- To check the Main Landing Gear (MLG) sliding tube Part Number (PN) only
- To inspect the MLG sliding tube.
B. REASON
Revision No. 02 issued to:
- Transform Service Bulletin data from ATA iSpec 2200 norm to ASD S1000D norm
- Update the applicability
- Update the compliance table
- Create an additional work to check the PN and Inspect the MLG sliding tube.
NOTE: For the aircraft inspected by revision No. 01 of this SB, final inspection to be done
as per VSB at the next MLG overhaul or within 10 years from the issue date of this
ISB revision 02.

B. REASON
(1) History
Two cases of cracks have been detected on MLG sliding tube lugs at the slave link
attachment interface during overhaul.
After investigation, it was found that there were burrs at the ends of the four holes
for the bolts that attach the slave link bracket to the rear of the sliding tube. It was
identified that these burrs originate from the manufacture of the sliding tubes and
have been missed during the polishing process. The cracks were caused by an
increase in fatigue damage due to the stress concentration effect of the burr at the
edge of the hole.
The initial quality investigation determined that a batch of 817 sliding tubes may have
had burrs not removed at this location during the polishing phase. Further quality
investigation completed by SAFRAN has revealed that all enhanced MLG sliding tubes
PN 201371304 and 201522353 may be at risk of incomplete deburring during the
manufacturing process at the slave link lug location.
(2) Objective/Action
This Service Bulletin at revision No. 02 is extended to all aircraft fitted with enhanced
MLG sliding tube PN 201371304 and 201522353. This Inspection Service Bulletin (ISB)
requests a repeat (every 10000 FC) detailed visual inspection of the MLG sliding tube
slave link attachment lugs for cracks. This inspection must be carried out on sliding

tubes that have accumulated more than 10000 FC from new, if not yet overhauled, or
have accumulated more than 10000 FC since last overhaul if already overhauled.
This Service Bulletin is published to advise all operators of A318, A319 and A320
aircraft of the issue of Ref. SAFRAN LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 200-32-321 at
revision No. 04 or later and to advise all operators of A321 aircraft of the issue of Ref.
SAFRAN LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 201-32-68 at revision No. 04 or later which
inspect the Left Hand (LH) and Right Hand (RH) MLG sliding tubes.
(3) Advantages
This ISB also provides a terminating action through a final inspection (Ref. SAFRAN
LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 200-32-321 at revision No. 04 or later (for A318, A319
and A320) or Ref. SAFRAN LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 201-32-68 at revision No.
04 or later (for A321)) for the presence of burrs in the lug holes. This final inspection is
recommended at the next MLG overhaul, when surface protection has been removed
or within 10 years from the issue date of this ISB revision No. 02.

the update of the affected publications detailed in "PLANNING INFORMATION".

C. REASON
(1) History
Two cases of cracks have been detected on MLG sliding tube lugs at the slave link
attachment interface during overhaul.
After investigation, it was found that there were burrs at the ends of the four holes
for the bolts that attach the slave link bracket to the rear of the sliding tube. It was
identified that these burrs originate from the manufacture of the sliding tubes and
have been missed during the polishing process. The cracks were caused by an
increase in fatigue damage due to the stress concentration effect of the burr at the
edge of the hole.
The initial quality investigation determined that a batch of 817 sliding tubes may have
had burrs not removed at this location during the polishing phase. Further quality
investigation completed by SAFRAN has revealed that all enhanced MLG sliding tubes
PN 201371304 and 201522353 may be at risk of incomplete deburring during the
manufacturing process at the slave link lug location.
(2) Objective/Action
This Service Bulletin at revision No. 02 is extended to all aircraft fitted with enhanced
MLG sliding tube PN 201371304 and 201522353. This Inspection Service Bulletin (ISB)
requests a repeat (every 10000 FC) detailed visual inspection of the MLG sliding tube
slave link attachment lugs for cracks. This inspection must be carried out on sliding
tubes that have accumulated more than 10000 FC from new, if not yet overhauled, or
have accumulated more than 10000 FC since last overhaul if already overhauled.
This Service Bulletin is published to advise all operators of A318, A319 and A320
aircraft of the issue of Ref. SAFRAN LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 200-32-321 at
revision No. 04 or later and to advise all operators of A321 aircraft of the issue of Ref.
SAFRAN LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 201-32-68 at revision No. 04 or later which
inspect the Left Hand (LH) and Right Hand (RH) MLG sliding tubes.
(3) Advantages
This ISB also provides a terminating action through a final inspection (Ref. SAFRAN
LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 200-32-321 at revision No. 04 or later (for A318, A319
and A320) or Ref. SAFRAN LANDING SYSTEMS (K0654) VSB 201-32-68 at revision No.
04 or later (for A321)) for the presence of burrs in the lug holes. This final inspection is
recommended at the next MLG overhaul, when surface protection has been removed
or within 10 years from the issue date of this ISB revision No. 02.

Inspection of the MLG Sliding Tube
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE WARNINGS AND ALL THE CAUTIONS
INCLUDED IN THE REFERENCED PROCEDURES.
CAUTION: ALWAYS OBEY THE PRECAUTIONS THAT FOLLOW TO KEEP ELECTRICAL

WIRING IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY
SERVICEABLE). WHEN YOU DO A MAINTENANCE WORK, REPAIRS OR
MODIFICATIONS, ALWAYS KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING, COMPONENTS AND
THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. TO DO THIS:
- PUT PROTECTION, SUCH AS PLASTIC SHEETING, CLOTHS, ETC., AS
NECESSARY ON WIRING AND COMPONENTS.
- REGULARLY REMOVE ALL SHAVINGS, UNWANTED MATERIAL AND
OTHER CONTAMINATION.
THESE PRECAUTIONS WILL DECREASE THE RISK OF CONTAMINATION AND
DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING INSTALLATION.

instructions are Required for Compliance (RC) and must be done to comply with the AD.

(c) Disconnect the slave link assembly from the LH sliding tube, refer to Ref. Fig.DA
Sol.AA SHEET 1 Slave Link Disconnect/Reconnect.
NOTE: If the MLG wheels were removed for increased access, it is not
necessary to depressurize the MLG shock absorber to accomplish the
removal of the slave link from the sliding tube.

2 Carefully move the bottom slave link away from the MLG shock absorber
together with:
- The bracket
- The electrical harness
- The flexible hydraulic lines.
3 Make sure that you do not make kinks in the electrical harness or the
flexible hydraulic lines. Safety the assembly in this position and give them
protection.
(d) Clean the MLG sliding tube slave link lugs. Use:

(e) Use a strong light source and do a detailed inspection on the aft side of the
sliding tube and the slave link bracket upper and lower lugs for cracks which
come from the lug holes, refer to Ref. Fig.CA Sol.AA SHEET 1 Inspection Details
and Ref. Fig.FA Flowchart.
1 If a crack is found:
- Replace the sliding tube before next flight and report to AIRBUS, refer
