Dear Parents
acknowledge their effort and thank them again for all of us.
It has been great to start the Term with the other half of our reporting process the 3 way conferences. It is this partnership with you that completes the mid year summary, giving some more clarity and meaning to what was identified about your child's progress and achievement and the chance to discuss celebrations and concerns. This all then comes together in setting those all important next learning goals for your child. Thank you for your participation in this important process.
and to get a high level of feedback with the survey. If you did not get the chance to submit your feedback after your 3 way conference and would like to please email me ([email protected]) and I will send you the link so you can complete it. This option is available until Friday of this week.
During the interview time I have parked myself at the Activity Centre and 'run some interference' as you leave to get you to complete a quick survey about the report format, 3 way conference process, what you see as important from the major elements of the Health Curriculum and how safe the school environment makes your child feel. Thank you for all being so helpful in this process. It has been a great way to touch base with a lot of you
A lot of you have also commented on how great the school is looking. Over the last few weeks we have had numerous people putting in a huge effort to give our place a real 'lift'. This started with our working bee crew last term (Emma and Brendon Scott, Michelle, Garry and Olivia Fraser, Jeff Blomfield, Jeff Hegan, Andrew McKee and Mark Herring) and continued with the fencing crew (Barry Smith, Simon McKenzie, Phillip Devery) and then through the term break with the garden and edging work (Jeff Blomfield, Andrew McKee). As you can see a lot of people have contributed and I really
Next Wednesday is the Southern Zone Moffett Cup day at Tokanui. For our new families this tradition among the Southern Zone schools will be a real experience for you. With this weeks newsletter is a rather large feedback form on all aspects of the Southern Zone events. Please fill in and give your opinion on what you want. This will help the Southern Zone Principals plan future events better.

Week 1 Term 3
Room 1 Great to catch up with everyone this week for interviews. We have an exciting term ahead learning about the changes that occur as we carry out science experiments. Alongside this we are learning the skills of drama and will present our experiments by creating a movie! We are enjoying jump jam for our daily fitness - look out for our groovy moves on Room 1's blog. Thank you to those who replenished the stationery over the holidays. Room 2 Welcome back to Term 3! It is great to see the children refreshed and ready for a busy term. We have been thinking and talking about what makes a good learner in Room 2, and setting some goals for ourselves. It has been great to share these with parents during our conferences this week. We are beginning a news sharing time which is an opportunity for the children to organise their thinking, and build confidence talking to a group. Our listeners will be learning to ask clever questions. Keep an eye out for a sharing card in your child's home folder. a week or so to get a full understanding. Please feel free to help your child to understand the maths in their homework for the first 2 weeks. Thanks. Holiday one-liners from Room 6. Our car slipped on the snow and broke a fence - Olivia H. We did a spin out on the snow on the way home from Manapouri - Jessica We went to Dunedin and watched the All Blacks v's Fiji - Louis We went to Cromwell and we saw a car in the paddock - Jack Room 7 Great to have everyone back and rearing to go. We have started off the week revisiting our goals and setting expectations for these. In class we have our Term 2 Safety Inquiry Town displayed, along with Room 8, so feel free to come in and have a look. We are looking forward to using this creation in our Literacy program. This week we have started our 'Tuning In' stage of our Science Inquiry with several experiments happening in class. Room 7 can't wait to check out what will happen when they visit Room 5, 6 and 8! Room 8 Weve been getting tuned in to our new Inquiry about scientific thinking. On Monday we looked at the ways different types of liquids interact and how scientists have a thoughtful guess about what might happen. You can ask your child to show you one of our experiments. Watch out for more experiments coming soon - theyre just like simple magic tricks! You can always have a closer look at what we are up to on our blog myrossroom8.blogspot.com Have a look today for Liam, Kees and Ben explaining what perimeter is in our latest maths video. Room 3 Welcome back to Term 3. I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays even though they were a bit cold! The children are all working hard on their goals. It is great to see that so many children did their reading and maths over the holiday break. A big thank you to all the parents who have ensured that the children have returned all their reading books to school. Certificates: Grace Lovelock Charlotte Herrick
Room 4 It's good to be back at school. We have an exciting inquiry this term called Magical Matter. We will be investigating and observing how matter changes when something is added or taken away. This week we are on assembly duty and would love you to come and support us. Thank you for coming to the three way interviews. It is great to set goals together and work as a team.
Room 5 Welcome back, it's fantastic to see everyone looking so refreshed. We have started the term off with a fizz and bang...experimenting with chemical reactions. The children are really buzzing with questions and can't wait to visit the other senior classes to try out more experiments. It was great to have a chance to discuss your children's learning with you at the 3 way conferences over the last two days.. Room 6 There is a lot of hype in Room 6 with the Inquiry unit on 'Science Change' starting up. We have got a busy term ahead and there has been some changes to our usual routine. One of these is the maths certificates. I am working closely with the class to make sure that they understand these fully but it may take
