1. The topic that I chose for my research project Is; The effects that doping has had on
sports throughout history, and how scientists speculated the use of steroids would
affect competition and comparing that to the speculation of how gene doping will affect
sports. As I did more research, I found that I would be able to narrow my topic more and
more, with the final goal of the entire paper, and all the research I am doing, is to be
able to say from the research I have done, I think that gene doping will have X effect on
sports.
2. I want to start my research paper talking about the history of doping/ PEDs. I will talk
about how since ancient times; people have tried to take things to give them an edge on
their competition. Once I get to the 1900s, and start talking about anabolic steroids, I
will talk about how scientists speculated sports would change because of them. And
then once I get to modern day, I will talk about Gene doping, and what people are
currently saying. Then, using my findings, I will state how I believe gene doping will
affect sports.
3. I think that the audience for this research paper would primarily be people in the sports
science world. I think that in order to truly make this paper geared towards that
audience, I need to make sure that I use a lot if scientific evidence, and quantitative
data. I believe that it is important to show that what I am making my claims upon is not
just speculation, but a claim based on facts.
4. I am going to do a written research paper. I think that a podcast would also be a good
medium for this, but I think that I am more effective as a writer for a paper, rather than
for a script.
5. The sections I believe I am going to have are-
Abstract (an overview of the paper)
What is doping? (Give the reader context of what the term “doping” refers too
Kinds of doping (set the stage for what the history will talk about)
Doping in sports throughout history (gives a historical timeline on how humans doped)
Effects of Anabolic steroids on sports (one side of the comparison)
- Speculation
- Reality
Gene doping (the other side of the comparison)
- Speculation
My findings, and prediction (uses all of the research and findings to make a claim on my
personal view, provides a conclusion of some sort)
