Quarter Third Date
I. LESSON TITLE Weld Carbon Steel Plates in Overhead Position (4F) Code: TLE_IAAW11FW-IIIa-
IVj-4
II. MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING 1.3. Observe weld capping/ final pass not exceeding allowable tolerances
COMPETENCIES (MELCs) specified by welding codes/ standards.
1.3.8 cold laps
Overhead welds are some of the most widely used positions in the welding
field. Since overhead welds are used so frequently, there are several
factors that you should consider before welding. The skills you develop in
welding can lead to countless opportunities in a variety of industries to a
more lucrative and rewarding careers.
In order for you to become a good welder , you need to practice self-
discipline and in best attitude on your welding habit practice , aim to
improve and gain techniques until you are competent in doing welding
job in all position and will pass the assessment of TESDA. Overhead position
is the most difficult position in welding, that is the reason why you are given
enough time to practice being a competent welder on this position.
Activity 1
Your training in overhead welding in school covers the whole of second
semester. Based on your daily activities in doing overhead welding position
what is the most important PPE that you use on this position. List down you
answer on a separate sheet of paper.
B. Development Welding is very important in research, fabrication and even in automotive
Pagpapaunlad industry. Here are some customize fabrication that uses scrap metals and
used small machines
One of the most common processes for field welding repair is Shielded
Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), or Stick. Stick electrodes are self-shielded. It
also provides adequate protection of the weld bead in outdoor
applications where wind interferes with shielding gases. It’s important to
note that Flux Cored (FCAW) welding is also a great option for field repair,
but for the sake of this article we will focus on Stick, which is more
accessible to many contractors.
Each application varies in mechanical properties such as required
strength, ductility, wear resistance, impact strength, and tensile strength.
An exact material match ensures weld quality and longevity, and avoids
premature failure and unwanted downtime.
After every welding operation, as a welder you have to check the welds
for defect otherwise it will cause damaged and accident.
Here are some common weld defects that is also caused by improper
welding techniques and welding machine adjustment
COLD LAP
LACK OF FUSION Lack of fusion, also called cold lapping or cold shuts,
occurs when there is no fusion between the weld metal and the surfaces
of the base plate. This defect can be seen in Figure 10-2. The most common
cause of lack of fusion is a poor welding technique.-
