INTRODUCTION
The backing moves to B, but unlike the other players in this jam, Andre opts
for the Mixolydian (B C# D# E F# G# A) tonality. However, note that he also
uses minor pentatonic (B D E F# A) with the added flat 5th (F). In these
cases, he usually resolves the phrase to the D# (major 3rd) of the Mixolydian
tonality… you can see this in the first note of bar 3 and the last note of bar
5 (only a partial bend here). Andre’s hybrid picking technique allows him
to access a different range of melodic shapes from the other players in
this jam. Check out the rippling arpeggio line in bars 15-16; this would be
incredibly challenging with regular sweep-picking.
