SECTION 16425
SWITCHBOARDS (600 V AND BELOW)
PART 1 – GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. General:
1. Furnish all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and services for switchboards
(600 V and below), in accord with provisions of Contract Documents.
2. Completely coordinate with the work of other trades.
3. Although such work is not specifically indicated, furnish and install all
supplementary or miscellaneous items, appurtenances and devices incidental
to or necessary for a sound, secure and complete installation.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop drawings:
1. Outline drawings of assembly.
2. One line diagrams and wiring diagrams for assembly and components.
3. Interconnection wiring diagrams.
B. Product data:
1. Certified test reports on protective devices, in enclosures if requested by
the OWNER.
2. Fuse and circuit breaker time current characteristic curves, specifications and
ratings, for coordination with source and load protective devices.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
All goods and products covered by these specifications shall be preferably, when
available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer if approved by OWNER and conforming
with the requirements of specifications. In case it is an imported products, the
manufacturer must have an agent in the Kingdom and shall have all required spare
parts in stock. Procurement of all goods and products must be approved by the
OWNER.
16425 - 2
A. The switch board shall be totally enclosed, deadfront, free standing front and rear
aligned with front and rear accessibility. These shall be provided with corrosion
resistant paint.
D. Buses:
1. Make main horizontal copper buses and connections between main bus and
switching device of sufficient size to limit temperature rise to 65 over
average room air temperature.
2. Provide main horizontal bus of rating indicated, full size continuous with
provision for future extension.
3. Neutral bus: Full size, continuous with provision for future extension.
4. Tin plate each main bus and tap connection over full surface of joints.
5. Current density of all buses shall not exceed 1000 amperes per square inch
for copper bus bars (1.5 amperes per sq mm).
6. Tightly fasten main bus connections to insure maximum conductivity.
7. Properly brace feeder circuit bussing.
8. Provide continuous electrolytic copper for switchboard. Solidly ground to
each structure near bottom and solidly ground to main metallic cold water
piping. In service section provide ground to neutral bus disconnecting link.
F. Do not use cabling inside switchboard as substitute for bus bar conductors,
unless otherwise indicated.
G. Provide each circuit with engraved phenolic nameplate with white cut letters to
designate purpose of circuit and red indicating light to show circuit is
energized.
H. Finish: Two coats of light gray enamel on all surfaces. Rustproof all sheet
steel parts after fabrication, prior to painting.
A. Meters: Circular scale, flush or semi flush, switchboard type, 250 degree, non-
parallax scale.
1. Shatterproof case 10 cm minimum diameter or 15 cm square with
conventional scale.
2. Scales practically uniform with accuracy of one percent, divided in multiples
of 10 or 100 of standard scale, with scales matching current and potential
transformer ratings.
B. Voltmeter: Instrument type with range of 0-600V with selector switch (rotary
transfer switch) 3 positions for line to line voltage, and "off" position.
A. Main and tie protective devices: Circuit breakers of current rating indicated.
B. Breakers: Trip actuator, 3 pole, single throw, each pole equipped with solid
state dual overcurrent tripping relay providing adjustable overcurrent, adjustable
ground fault, and adjustable short time delay and instantaneous short circuit
protection.
1. Operation: Manual/Motorized. ( Ratings: 800 Amps and above shall be
motorized)
2. Construction: Drawout/Fixed Construction (Ratings: 1500 Amps and above shall
be drawout type
3. Ratings as shown on drawings
4. Control switch with red and green indicating lights.
5. Provide control transformer with current limiting fuses.
6. Instantaneous trips to permit adjustment for fault current tripping
coordination.
7. Automatic transfer device for tie breaker control power.
8. Drawout mechanism: Roll out type, operated by removable crank handle.
Provide mechanical door interlocks for safety to operating personnel.
16425 - 4
9. Provide two NO auxiliary contacts on each main and tie breaker (where tie
breaker is shown on drawings) to provide redundant interlocking between mains
and tie.
10 Provide two NO auxiliary contacts on each main and tie breaker to
interrupt power to associated ground fault relay when breaker is open.
