RECAP

We have learned that poem is a piece of writing in which the words are
arranged in separate lines. It often ends in rhyme. It is also a collection of
spoken and written words that expresses ideas or emotions.

LESSON
Today, let us talk about composing poem.

A poem is composed of lines, stanzas, rhythm and rhyme.

A line is a subdivision of a poem. It is a group of words arranged into a row.

A stanza is a group of lines. In a stanza, there could be two, three, four, five
or six lines. If a stanza has 3 lines, it is called tercet.

Rhythm is determined by stressed and unstressed syllables

Rhyme are words that sound the same. It is the pattern of rhyming words at
the end of each line which makes the poem more interesting.

A poem has a theme which is the main idea that an author wants to
convey. He also sets the tone and mood of the poem. These are the feelings or
emotions that the author wants the reader to feel while reading the poem.
Here is an example of a 3-line 4-stanza poem.

Makes us anxious, makes us swear
Being safe, we can only bear.

We pray for experts to find a cure,

Knowledgeable persons that can reassure,
And specialist for a better future.

Hospitals may be congested right now,

Medical centers, overwhelmed with patients, wow!
But a quarantine facility is a great help somehow.

Thank you for those who showed selflessness,

For everyone’s helpfulness,
We salute heroism, we salute your kindness.
